Tri-Crescendo, developers of Eternal Sonata for the Xbox 360 and PS3, are currently working on a new RPG for the Nintendo Wii. Entitled Fragile, the RPG follows the story of Set, a young boy who must explore various cities in a post-apocalyptic world.
Details at this time are scarce because, well, we can't read Japanese. Those with a bit more skill in the language department might want to check out the game's official website, which also features screenshots and a teaser trailer for the game.
Those that are a bit lazier can check out the trailer after the break.
People only hate NGE if they are not able to think outside the box, I mean if you just took it as a Mecha anime it's OK... but it's incredible on so many deeper levels. The last two episodes are my favorite, alot of people hate them with a passion... so... yeah
I'm not a huge fan of Anime (I used to run around yelling Kamehameha back in the day though...), but, IMHO NGE is the best "Media" I have ever witnessed.
The games industry needs an NGE type of game. (To really turn peoples conception of games upside down)
Oh yeah, this game looks good...ugh it's a JRPG... Random battles FTL...
Granted, this looks fantastic and I'll probably end up owning it, but...
I'm amazed by people who say "I'll buy this regardless of quality." Why? Look folks, that's stupid. If you've gone the full year only owning a Wii, I truly pity you. It's a complimentary system at best right now. The VC, Mario, and Metroid are truly fantastic, but you can't live by those alone.
This isn't an actual war. You're just stupid if you only support "one side." If you can't afford both then fine. But if you're buying crap software for a system you "support" instead of saving for another that actually has games you might enjoy more in addition to what you have on your current console, then that's just plain stupid.
And no, it doesn't only apply to Wii-only owners. I know plenty of PS3 folks and 360-only folks who do the same thing, on internet and off.
Never said I supported "one side", just that I support real meaty games. If nobody buys meaty games on the wii, even if all the wii gets is crappy meaty games, then the message publishers get is "meaty games don't sell on wii" not "we need to make better meaty games".
The elitist gamer attitude of "I'll only buy AAA titles" is what killed 3rd party support on the GC. If we want games that are truly deeper than "Shoot the target" or "Cook some ramen", then we need to put up when someone does so, or shut up when developers abandon the platform.
Now, after we get a flow of meaty games that have good and bad games mixed, then we can be a little bit more discerning in our tastes.
I don't think I was responding directly to you, but I see plenty wrong with what you're saying here.
Firstly, I don't think that is at all what killed the Gamecube. A book could be written on the many factors that kicked it to the curb. Shifting of major staff in Nintendo, poor policies and dealings with third parties... there's plenty. And I loved that thing.
Secondly, why on earth would it be an elitist to say "I won't put up with crap?" We can all GET games that are deeper than "Shoot the target" and "Cook some ramen." This was a freaking fantastic fall for games, and you CAN be discerning in your tastes.
Again: Why spend cash on crappy games to "show developers that the wii can support meaty games" when you can just freaking buy an Xbox or PS3 and get the meaty games you crave? Or, hey, buy a copy of Zack and Wiki and support GOOD game design on the Wii. Meaty crap is still crap.
Yeah, I could just forget the wii is capable of fantastic games beyond Mario and buy games elsewhere, but no other console has the perfect FPS control scheme or overall platform innovation that Wii has.
I want point and click adventure games back, real survivor horror, JRPGs, WRPGs, all using the interface on the wii. Because if Wii succeeds, Virtual Reality is right around the corner.
Hay, here is an idea. How about that perhaps that the Wii only owners do not like many of the games for the 360 or PS3. LIKE ME!
Look at it this way, I did not buy a DS or a PSP at launch. I only buy a system that has at least 5 games I want for it and has more in the future that I like. DS ended up getting a TON of games I liked around the DS Lite time, PSP got jack. Thus I own a DS Lite.
So....I do not like Halo. Or Ninja Gaidain. Final Fantasy sucks after VI, Ratchet & Clank is a Pixar Movie without the quality or the soul, ect.
Getting rid of all that, lets look at the games I would want for the other two consoles:
PS3: Resident Evil 5, Little Big Planet
360: Resident Evil 5, Viva Pinata (might get this on PC)
That is it. Two games. Wow. Out of all the games available the only non-generic and interesting stuff they could come up with...is two games? One that is multi-platform to boot? Meh. Not for me.
Now lets look at all the Wii games I own:
-- Wii Sports (DUH!) -- Wii Play -- Rayman Raving Rabbids -- Scarface: The World is Yours -- Metroid Prime 3 Corruption -- Madden 08 -- Zack & Wiki -- Manhunt 2 -- Battalion Wars 2 -- Metal of Honor Heroes 2 -- Super Mario Galaxy
I have 8 games so far. I have 15 others that I want this year, I am either saving up for them or allowing people to get me them for gifts. If you also counted I have as 5 Nintendo games and 6 3rd Party games, thus I actually own more 3rd Party games than first party. In fact most of games I want are 3rd Party Games.
Now add in the Gamecube backwards compatibility (I owned an X-Box last year so I never experience the wonderful Gamecube games), my 11 VC games (more 3rd Party ones again) and all the minor functions of the Wii that I use every day.
What god did I please? XD
So for me, Wii is an instant buy. Unless Microsoft and Sony start putting out shit that I will actually like, stuff that is not FPS Game 3758375 or RPG 47395583993 and is not all "HARDCORE IN YOUR BALLS YEA!!!" then I will end up owning one of the other two in the future. Until then...
I'm not forgetting that the Wii CAN do those things. I've played wonderful examples of many. But your arguments above basically state that you need to buy a whole lot of fertilizer to get flowers. Consoles are not gardens, my friend. If you buy crap, you can only expect more crap because the companies who hawk it will know that they can get away with it.
If you're happy with what you're getting, then you're all set. I don't see you saying that you're going to buy crappy games simply because they represent a genre you might like to see a quality title in later on. Hell, if you buy crap and enjoy it, well... ignorance is bliss, right? You're not really part of the argument.
This was my reaction: "A post-apocalyptic world" *smiles widely* "starring a young boy" *frowns completely*
Please, we need some heavy post-apocalyptic game. I don't really care for the typical anime-style kid saving the world. I really would prefer one guy getting his ass out of danger, but the world is still torn to pieces.
Project HAMMER was crunched because they needed NST (Nintendo Software Technology) to work on something else, however Disaster is being made by a different team with nothing better to do, Monolith Soft, to whom that kind of game comes naturally
Translation: Voice: "Look. A firefly..." Text/Voice: "The planet..." Text/Voice: "...so broad and vast..." Text/Voice: "There are so many people in this world..." Text/Voice: "Then why do I feel so alone?" Title: "Fragile: Farewell to the Ruins of the Moon" Text: "To those who felt this way before."
Looks like ass, but hopefully they'll clean it up before it's released. Not really enough to go by, otherwise, besides the cool title. It looks like they really nailed the 'ruined' part, though. Most of the time, post-apocalyptic in games seems to mean some old debris strewn about in the streets or high tech (and green/blue). This actually looks destroyed.
I dunno, I'm not down with the stuff about the character that's been un-earthed so far, but these graphics look pretty fantastic to me. Real sense of style, and I think they're pushing the system pretty hard.
I could be wrong though. I'm very interested to see more footage as it pops up.
Also... flashlight controled by Wii-Mote? I hope so!
cool i like rpgs, and this could be really well done since its being made in japan. I hope graphics don't stay the way they are, they look like ps2 stuff now which is not impressive. More traditional games are always a great thing for Wii
Upon reading the description, I got the "could this be the next FF7?" goosebumps, but to be honest, after viewing the video, it became more of a "that reminds me of BoF: Dragon Quarter, so I'm going to curl up in the corner and hope the voices go away" kind of feeling.
Don't get me wrong; it's great to see the Wii getting some solid support from more than just classic throwbacks and mini game mashups, but I was hoping for something with a bit more of an original formula. The "young boy has to solve the world's greatest mystery" thing doesn't do it for me anymore. And I'm sure a lot of gamers are in the same head-space.
Could still be promising of course, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it.
