Today's most tedious video: Picking weeds in Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS loves guilting its players. Turn the game off before saving? Mr. Resetti shows up to give you a piece of his mind. Go several months without playing the game? Your once-beautiful town will be overrun with weeds that you'll have to pluck one by one if you want to re-beautify the landscape.
Today's video shows just how absurd this process can be. It reportedly took 35 non-stop minutes to remove all the weeds that had grown over eleven months of non-play. Still, our videographers aren't without compassion: to alleviate the sheer tedium of the process, a clever editer has chosen to depict the entire process "Benny Hill" style. You can still see how ridiculous it all is, but at least now you can giggle instead of pulling your hair out. Check out the wacky gardening antics after the break.
Update: Fixed the number of months.

Animal Crossing is nothing more than an experiment in how little content a game company can drip into starving gamers' mouths before they realize they're doing absolutely nothing and get another game.
giantenemycrab @ Nov 26th 2007 1:13AM
I like Animal Crossing.. >_>
Brello @ Nov 26th 2007 11:44AM
I couldn't stand doing hours of chores in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II. Then I played Animal Crossing (GameCube) and was opened up to a whole new world of boredom. I won't be putting this dreck on my DS. I will never understand the attraction.
Kyattsuai @ Nov 26th 2007 12:22AM
Ah, Animal Crossing and Nintendogs, the two games I'm legitimately afraid to play after months of ignoring...
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 12:33AM
i always wanted to stab the stylus through my friend's ds when he played nintendogs near me
I still have never touched a ds because of that game
spugmeistress @ Nov 26th 2007 9:28AM
nintendogs isn't half as bad to go back to - nothing a quick shampoo, some of their finest dog kibble and a bit of frisbee won't solve pretty much instantly. dogs have short memory spans compared to villages.
Michael @ Nov 26th 2007 1:07AM
Ummm, the title is "11 months. 1,000 weeds. Two minutes of video"
Not two months?
Chris @ Nov 26th 2007 1:42AM
Perhaps it was II? (Roman Numeral 'two' that might look like eleven to the ignorant or extremely tired)
I just spent $11 (that's eleven) on getting adorable animal crossing charms. I missed Sable Able and wanted to look at a little 3/4ths an inch statuette of her and feel all sad and nostalgic. :'-(
money. well. spent.
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 12:32AM
zee goggles! they do nothing!
also that top screen is pretty useless, the tops of trees from the bottom screen don't even overlap into it
B1gC72 @ Nov 26th 2007 1:53AM
they do use the top screen for helium balloon equipped presents that randomly float through the air. you have to shoot them down with your sling shot to collect the gifts.
but yea, other than that one reason, the top screen is fairly useless.
snr0n @ Nov 26th 2007 8:09AM
The top screen does plenty of other things too - without giving too much away, there are 2 characters who immediately spring to mind that you'll see in the sky at times. Plus shooting stars. Not to mention the fact that you can create a sky full of constellations (different ones will be visible on the screen at night during different times of year) and when someone visits your town, there's a chance one of their own custom constellations will appear in your sky too.
Synner @ Nov 26th 2007 12:39AM
This is the reason I stopped playing the original AC, who wants to pull damn weeds all day? The shit you try to grow won't pop up that fast.
Trashman @ Nov 26th 2007 12:40AM
Go play your piece of junk psp with little to no good games all you haters. There are other good games for it. There have been games on other systems that you would in no way ever play, but you still play the system
Trashman @ Nov 26th 2007 12:41AM
and by it I was referring to the DS. Forgot to include that

Weeds? Where we're going we don't need...weeds.
WiNG @ Nov 26th 2007 11:49AM
yeah awesome.
Did you ever see the youtube vid where some guy gets around a virus that is shutting his computer down "in 4.5 minutes"? He changes the date to 1924, and gets 80 years to fix it, haha.
Slaziman @ Nov 26th 2007 2:30PM
LOL
waynski1457 @ Nov 26th 2007 12:55AM
ahh yes, i remember doing this on cube. after coming back to it a few months ago (with about a year of not playing) i just got all the passwords of the items i wanted and started a new town. much easier. then again, this i hear its not quite worth it here cause of the online play... thank god i never got it lol...

Great vid!
dalrint @ Nov 26th 2007 1:45AM
Try logging in after almost two years of not playing. Every available empty space in my town has a weed in it.
ThornedVenom @ Nov 26th 2007 1:55AM
Didn't play it for a looooong while, except this one time. You know why?
I was testing the wi-fi function for the very first time with an online friend. I asked him to help me weed the whole neighbourhood.
spugmeistress @ Nov 26th 2007 9:31AM
yeah, weeding can be (relatively) fun if you turn it into a race with wi-fi friends. weeding other people's towns doesn't feel so futile :)
B1gC72 @ Nov 26th 2007 1:56AM
i picked up my AC:WW a couple weeks ago after seven months of none playing. it took me about 2 days to finally remove all of the weeds from the town (didnt want to do it all in one setting). and after all that work, i promptly banished the game back to my DS case lol.
Shignami @ Nov 26th 2007 2:34AM
At least he found 4 four-leaf clovers.
Deozaan @ Nov 26th 2007 2:46AM
The question is how long did it really take to pick all those weeds?
Deozaan @ Nov 26th 2007 2:48AM
Then again, I suppose it would be helpful to read the entire post.
35 minutes? Yeah, I've probably done that...
Knoxximus @ Nov 26th 2007 4:18AM
Yeah, not to mention you gotta kill all those fuckin' roaches in the house. Those fuckers are FAST.
nxtiak @ Nov 26th 2007 5:33AM
What's with the ghey Village People sunglasses?
ALH @ Nov 26th 2007 5:34AM
i found weed picking to be kinda relaxing tbh. I got bored of playing AC the real way and cheated my way up to paying off most of my debt to nook and as a result of my time travelling my place was full of weeds. While clearing them out one night that i couldnt sleep anyways i found a load of buried treasure and the likes too :D!
Pikachief @ Nov 26th 2007 6:07AM
i remember a hacker told me to pull out all of his weeds for 15 crowns. sad thing was, the used hacks to put a weed on every square.... including the water XD
and yes i still got those crowns ;)
Bucket @ Nov 26th 2007 6:34AM
THIS IS GREAT STUFF
Wilson @ Nov 26th 2007 8:00AM
Another test that Benny Hill theme can do everything funny. Now, I'll try to watch Grave of the Firelfies at 2x the speed with the music on :D
SReg @ Nov 26th 2007 9:24AM
I don't know about the DS version, but in the GameCube version there is a ghost named "Wisp" that you can talk to in the middle of the night. If you capture five escaped souls for him, he'd offer to do one of three things, one of which is to clear every single weed from your town.

Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 26th 2007 12:43PM
Sorry, no Wisp in Wild World.
joevill @ Nov 26th 2007 9:59AM
I guess it is good that my game went MIA, otherwise I would have to do the same thing!
Obie @ Nov 26th 2007 10:49AM
Great video, my Animal Crossing town should look the same right about now ( shiver ).
feelingsinister @ Nov 26th 2007 11:05AM
any video that uses the benny hill theme is okay i my books.
WiNG @ Nov 26th 2007 11:52AM
This game sounds like they took the entire part of Shenmue where you have to get a job, and made that whole bullshit a game.
gonk @ Nov 26th 2007 12:56PM
i really hope that no more heroes keeps them funny and very short and optional
Jeremy @ Nov 26th 2007 1:50PM
just....blegh
Dio @ Nov 26th 2007 3:51PM
I played this game almost non-stop when it first came out for like three or four months. After a month of not playing I just decided to never play a game like this ever again because it's impossible to get every single item on your own. Btw, I had no wifi D: People at school didn't have the stuff I needed, because they were time travelers.
