It had to drop sooner or later, and it seems that today was the lucky day for Japanese Wii owners. With little to no fan-fare, the "Everybody's Nintendo" Wii channel has launched in Japan, offering release date information, promotional videos, and -- finally -- streaming DS demo downloads.
The service essentially acts as an extended promotion for Nintendo's products, allowing users to view commercials, gameplay footage, and interviews about various Nintendo products and games. A different section offers release date schedules for the DS and Wii, with easy access to box art, pricing, and various other details on games. The channel can also be set up to offer gaming recommendations based on age, gender, and other variables.
Obviously the feature we're most excited for is the streaming DS downloads. The initial list in Japan consists mostly of several Touch Generations titles, as well as a patch for the Japanese versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. No information has been given on the release of "Everybody's Nintendo" in other regions, but considering Check Mii Out was released in all regions on the same day, we're hoping that the rest of the world can have this coveted channel soon.

The Wii, DS, Metroid Prime 2, Mario Strikers Charged all started in the US first... :-)

Actually Mario Strikers came out in Europe before the US and Japan. So there, we don't get shafted everytime.

Finally, DS demos in the home and also a WiiWare channel that isn't entirely useless.

While the internet channel isn't entirely useless, aside from playing some flash games with the Wiimote I haven't used it pretty much at all.
And I actually was kind of a fan of the Everybody Votes Channel, and I only just deleted it a couple weeks ago to make room for more Virtual Console games.

Wait, what? A patch for DS Pokemon? So it patches the game on the memory card? Interesting, I never considered it could do that, but I guess if it can save on the card, it can change the game itself too.

Yeah, this isn't the first time a Pokemon game has needed a patch-- the first round of the GBA series had a glitch that came up exactly one year after the saved game was started (internal clock bug). I'm not sure what bug is being fixed in this version but presumably it doesn't affect the US versions-- or, more likely, if it did, it would have been patched via Pokemon Battle Revolution already.

I heard that the japanese Diamond and Pearlwere capable of duplicating pokémon, so it might be something about that.

There was a glitch where you could Surf out the doors of the Elite 4 and follow paths to reach event Pokemon that aren't supposed to be available yet. That's what's being fixed, I think.

I look for it to be just like the Keyboard situation. No official support or peripherial from Nintendo, just the option to use one if you so choose.

What does everyone think about the possibility of playing DS games on the wii while using the DS as the controller? I'd like to be able to play a lot of my DS games on my big screen

it would be a ds classic controller, use the touch screen for analog sticks, that would be the best

The patch is probably for a well known glitch present only in the early Japanese versions of Diamond and Pearl. (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/925602/47530)
It's a glitch that allows you to catch Darkrai and Sheimi (and supposedly skip the Elite Four).

I remember when everyone complained about using the PS3 to download PS1 games onto the PSP...
no one has a problem with requiring a Wii to have this restriction?
Well, I guess it's not as expensive...

The DS lacks any way to do this by itself. Would you rather nintendo required you to purchase a special card to download demos?

The difference here is that before this option you could go to any Gamestore and download the demos in public.
Sony originally promised to use any Wi-Fi spot to download PS1 games, but then made it PS3 exclusive just to make the PS3 seem worth more of a deal, thus gimping the original promise.
