Artie Lange provides voice in next Leisure Suit Larry game
According to the unofficial Artie Lange blog site, Lange will voice the role of "Big Al" in an upcoming Leisure Suit Larry game. Lange is best known for his work on the Howard Stern Show. Very little is known beyond the statement made on the Stern show and an official announcement of a new Leisure Suit Larry hasn't been made.
It would be nice to see Larry back on top considering he's been quite, erm ... flaccid for the last decade. The last Leisure Suit Larry game, Magna Cum Laude, didn't even star the original character and was an amateur-hour Larry adventure. Thanks to games like Sam & Max showing life in the adventure genre, perhaps there is hope for a well-written quality adventure game starring everyone's favorite lovable loser.

Only if he lives long enough.

And yet there are those who never seem to die.
Intentless @ Nov 28th 2007 2:30PM
Yeah seriously. He is a really cool guy. Just needs a drop a few hundred pounds and ween himself off the subutex (spelling).
FrankTheCrank @ Nov 28th 2007 3:44PM
Agreed!
I was watching that HowardTV preview and could not believe how FAT Artie Lange is lately. It was unbelievable. He looks like a fat Italian grandmother!
Intentless @ Nov 28th 2007 4:01PM
I don't watch the Howard TV thing but I saw him on Rescue Me and even though they tried to hide it behind the bar he still looked just gigantor... Which is sad I've always enjoyed him as an entertainer and listening to the show you just hear how hard it is for him...
FrankTheCrank @ Nov 28th 2007 4:25PM
Yeah, being an old Howard fan and a fan of the show, when it was on E! I couldn't resist watching this preview of Howard TV on Mojo HD.
It was funny to watch...the studio their in how isn't as nice as their E! set...the segment they were airing was one of Sal the Stockbroker and Richard Christy having it out with Artie Lange...Wow, Artie came out and told them he flat out hated them, didn't care for them and wanted nothing to do with them.
I miss that show...funny stuff.
Intentless @ Nov 28th 2007 4:57PM
I loved that segment. I listen to the show almost every day with Sirius in my car. Personally there are times I can't stand Richard and Sal... Which is actually most of the time they are on...
ez054098 @ Nov 28th 2007 4:22PM
They should cast High Pitch Mike in the game as well.
burgerbat @ Nov 28th 2007 2:54PM
HEY NOW!
That's some great news. Love me some Artie. WAAAAHH! I'M ON HEROIN! WAAAAAH! DANA LEFT ME! Let's hope they can fit those quotes into the game somehow.

I am praying for a baby gorilla reference.
God I love the Stern show.
F Jackie! Artie Rules!
Derrick @ Nov 28th 2007 3:07PM
I guess when your attempted movie career falls flat you resort to video game voices?
burgerbat @ Nov 28th 2007 3:29PM
Now Derrick, that was stupid. Artie joined the Howard Stern Show when his movie career didn't pan out and he was fired from MADtv for being a drug addict. Beer League, his last movie (after he joined Stern) was a moderate success for an independent movie, and he's a hilarious stand-up comic with a TON of gigs.
But, considering you're probably the kind of person who finds Stern "icky" (read: a twelve year-old), your opinions are no longer needed. Thank you.
Phranctoast @ Nov 28th 2007 3:47PM
pretty rough on someone giving an honest opinion. What movies was he in besides dirty work and beerleague? Is he known for more than just madtv and howard?
People on the boards hardly consider Mark Walhberg an accomplished actor when he has been in more movies than albums he made. I doubt artie lang will get more respect.
StrangeBum @ Nov 28th 2007 4:04PM
I don't know much about Artie Lange. But as far as Mark Wahlberg goes. I have two words to say to you Phranctoast.
Boogie Nights
I'm done.
Derrick @ Nov 28th 2007 4:04PM
Actually I'm an O&A fan (their voices will be in GTA4 btw), but I have nothing against Stern or Artie really. I'm just not sure why it's noteworthy that someone of his fame level (ie not very) is voicing a character in a series that has been irrelevant for at least a decade.
WiNG @ Nov 28th 2007 4:07PM
lol @ the only people who don't like Howard are 12 year olds.
How about after listening to his show for 4 years I decided he hasn't done anything new in ages, and was just bored to tears.
Yeah Howard is talented but since it seemed every bit was either about
-prostitutes
-porn stars
-farting
-homeless/retarded people
yeah that got kinda old.
And it just seemed like after a while every joke was just a rehashed in-joke from x years ago, instead of say writing new material.
burgerbat @ Nov 28th 2007 5:22PM
OK, now I can really unleash. O&A? Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SERIOUSLY, I WANT TO KNOW. Oh, you weren't? Are you sure you don't want to retract that? Do yourself a favor, buy Sirius, and turn off O&A. Then come back and thank me. Profusely. O&A are tools, for tools, by tools.
Phranctoast, Artie is known for more...actually being funny. I know, it's crazy...and he was in Mystery Men, which is like, only the best movie ever. Or not. Alot of people are fans of Artie despite his lack of a AAA movie-star-status, and I assume there is a Stern fan on Joystiq staff who found this news as cool as I did (for both reasons you used to dismiss it, Artie and the return of LSL).
WiNGZ, my friend, if all Howard Stern was is fart jokes, prostitutes, and porn stars, then I think 12 year-olds would love him. Luckily, his show is a little more expansive than that. And the retards? That's the Whack Pack, my friend, and if you're not with them, then you're against them. And I wouldn't want to be against a mob of angry Whackers.
Derrick @ Nov 28th 2007 5:28PM
Oh god you're one of these guys that thinks his juvenile radio show is better than the other guys juvenile radio show. They're all (more or less) the same shit that many people find entertaining, stop acting like there's a difference.
Phranctoast @ Nov 28th 2007 5:55PM
I Used to listen to Howard but I stopped somewhere near that time period where his wife left him. At that point his show consisted of complaining and self promotion of his great radio skills. I was listening to him from 92' until that point. It was good radio but I got tired of him. I also leave for work at 7 and im only listening to the radio for an hour before. The move to satelite hurt him imho.
I like O&A. They have a great show. It is strange that the things that they could get away within the past are taboo now. (wiffle ball bat challenge).
doom saber @ Nov 28th 2007 3:25PM
I am thinkin that Artie Lange will voice Al lowe, the creator of the series. I mean, Al Lowe as a character appeared in lsl6, lsl7 and the upcoming love for sail game(not to be confused with lsl7) for the mobile cell.
d-pad @ Nov 28th 2007 4:19PM
So many rebuttals to choose from. However, I think I'll stick with the classics.
You're an idiot.
d-pad @ Nov 28th 2007 4:20PM
Le sigh...
Kudos to the awesome comment system here. Previous statement was directed to 'Derrick'.
Donald @ Nov 28th 2007 4:30PM
Heh, I best know Artie for MadTV.

Yeah, I thought that he was best known from MadTV, but whatev.
Gavin @ Nov 28th 2007 4:57PM
I hope there is a level where you play as a coked up fat guy in a pig suit!!!
I love Artie....best thing about the Stern show nowadays.
Thr3e2wenty8 @ Nov 28th 2007 6:21PM
Artie is perfect for LSL.
Stern is great on SSR, not a fan of Bubba and as a sports talk guy Ferall is AWESOME uncensored. Check it out.
Nollind Whachell @ Nov 28th 2007 8:04PM
Should be a lot of LSL fans happy about the continuation of the series. I remember at the end of the 90's when I was handling some of the webmaster emails for Sierra, we used to always get people asking if and when the next game in the series would be out but Sierra by then had pretty much closed the book on the series (until now that is).
doom saber @ Nov 29th 2007 1:46AM
@ Nollind Whachell
The thing is that after MCL came out, ppl were disappointed since it played nothing like the old lsl games and Al Lowe, the series creator, didn't work on this game. Therefore, I don't think fans are excited with this news as they were (and soon disappointed) when LSL MCL was announced and released.
Personally, I find MCL is funnier (it has more adult humor) than the previous LSL games, but the gameplay is a bit repetitive considering it is the same 10 mini games over and over again. MCL feels like a licensed game as oppose to an original title, mostly because it plays like "The Simpsons: Hit and Run" except that instead of repetitive car-driving mini games, there are arcade game-rip off like DDR and tapper mini games. However, the way they designed the conversation system is pretty fun. Other than that, the game is a let down to most lsl fans, who excepted to play an adventure title.
Unless this new game is goin to be an adventure title, I doubt most fans will get excited over this game.
Nollind Whachell @ Nov 29th 2007 3:36PM
Ah, thanks for the info on that doom saber. I don't know much about the game myself but what you said makes sense.
I mean if the last one didn't do that well, Sierra probably thought it was time to close up the series back then. However, if they didn't stick to original formula of the game that made it so popular, then they pretty much shot themselves in the foot on that one.
Pretty typical though. Too many companies think they can take any intellectual property and do just as good a job with it. However they usually fail miserably because they often don't have the feel, personality, or touch that they original creators / designers instilled into the game.
