You Mac gamers out there (we know, we know, "both of you") will be pleased to learn that the briefly delayed Guitar Hero III will be shipping to retailers on December 10, so you should be able to snag a copy in time for [insert gift-giving holiday of choice here].
The $80 PC/Mac hybrid disc (that's called a twofer where we're from) is bundled with the USB-based X-plorer guitar and will even include cross-platform multiplayer between the two at times warring platforms. Now how about a showdown between John Hodgman and Justin Long?

Yes, I don't mind playing on my dinky 42" LCD monitor. (Good ol' Westinghouse)
But I'd put this on my laptop and play with headphones and keyboard, sure it's not the same, but DDR is still fun with arrow keys.

Dumb question. First of all, computer gamers usually always have monitors with high resolutions, so HD is not even an issue. 21/22" monitors are common, and gamers usually have a great sound setup on their computers too. And headphones work great too (better than TV speakers).
My only issue is with the fact that they are including the old X-plorer guitar (which btw can already be connected to a PC for Frets on Fire, etc.)...I hate the look of that guitar.

Same. My surround setting setup is begging to play this game, but I refuse to buy it bundled with the xplorer. I'll wait til someone finds a way to get another guitar to work and it's sold as a standalone.

@ jeff
I told you last time that the PS3 guitar works for it, and it will be available to buy separately later on this year.
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/guitar-hero-iiis-wireless-gibson-available-solo-in-early-2008/
so read up my comment about how to get the ps3 guitar to work. Also i think ANY X360 guitar works as well, and so does the wii guitar if you know how to configure GlovePIE apparently.
so any USB guitar would work.

I'm actually excited for this. This will raise the possibility of "modified" track listings. I wanna be able to do an entire Clapton concert.

agreed. It's only a matter of time before I can download any mp3 I want and play it in GHIII.

Yea, I don't get what's up with that. At the gamestop I work at they continue to send us endless amounts of the game for PS3 and PS2, but we've been out of it for Wii360 for weeks now. It makes no sense.

Haha, Sony should advertise this as their selling point.
"The Wii is to be found nowhere on shelves, and the 360's games are nowhere to be found! So get your PS3 now, where everything is available now!"

Isn't it the case that this won't work on Macs with integrated graphics?
Meaning the MacBook?
Meaning the Mac almost everyone, including myself, owns?

I don't have any interest in playing games on the Mac really, but I wouldn't mind getting GH for it, and the fact that it doesn't work on the most popular Mac seems absurd.

Mac Minis and MacBooks use integrated chips.
iMacs, MBPros and Mac Pros all have dedicated graphics. Apple only started using integrated graphics with the intel move because it's cheap and efficient, and 'good enough' for most applications, just not gaming. That, and I don't think they had any decent integrated options on their PPC architectures.
And whereas I agree that its sad that there are so many integrated graphics solutions out there, what most people don't realize is that Intel ships more GPU's than ANYONE, and they're all integrated. Yes, I meant GPUs. Although nVidia is catching up with their low-end integrated solutions. It just means that there are lots and lots of cruddy GPUs out there.

Slaziman, I don't mind them. Less energy consumption considering I'd almost never find use for a dedicated graphics card.
The fact that they are still selling MacBooks without DVD burners is what's ridiculous.

My setup
CPU: Check (AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+)
RAM: Check (4GB)
VRAM: Check (512MB)
Video Card: Fail (GeForce 8500 GT)
I don't even meet the recommended requirements.
::cries::
But at least I can run Crysis.
CPU: Core 2 Duo/Athlon X2 or better
RAM: 1.5GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 7800 Series, ATI Radeon 1800 Series or better
VRAM: 512MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 12GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10
Pfft! Crysis is the old benchmark. Guitar Hero III is where it's at.

Because Aspyr sucks at optimizing.
And it should be less than any other bundle. $10 off for getting the shitty xplorer, same deal everyone else gets, and $10 off for PC never receiving a next-gen tax.
It's the same exact controller as the xbox version, so yes, it will work with the 360, and vice versa. Only selling the PC version in bundles is garbage, as it kills people who have the 360 guitar and just want to get a version for laptop or PC.

Since it's USB, will it work with the console versions? It'd be nice to have a guitar to take over to a friend's house and know it'll work whether he has a ps2, xbox360, wii, etc.

And I should mention that refuse are finding the game stuttering and overall performing poorly on PC-- again, due to Aspyr sucking at optimizing.
I mean, I'm sure I'll be able to trick the bastard into running fine, but it pisses me off that things can't ship right.
