Samuel L. Jackson hosting Spike TV Video Game Awards again

For the third year in a row Samuel L. Jackson will host the Spike TV Video Game Awards, now in its fifth year. While we'd like to say Jackson can bring "the awesome" to most anything, it's all too evident when non-gamers pick up that gamepad (note to Spike: keep the pad out of his hands).

The event goes down Dec. 7 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and, after some fancy editing, the actual broadcast is Dec. 9 at 9PM. Games like Borderlands and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be premiered during the show and totally radical (not to mention relevant) celebs like magician Criss Angel and Dave Navarro will attend. I'm sorry guys, but I can't portray his face in Star Wars anymore, ever since that Snakes on a Plane movie came out years ago.

Its basicly a joke, its all about money and advertising, most of the games nominated arnt even good, its all about what games they want to sell you

Shouldn't this be just called the XBOX award show sponsored by Microsoft and Mt. f'n Dew?

If they got a funny FREAKING AWESOME guy who's also a gamer such as _Robbin Williams_ it would be quite possibly the most epic video game rating show ever, but they wont so its garbage.

The show could have the greatest, most perfect host ever, but it would still fail based on the entirety of the actual content.

I like Sam and all but its like he'll take anything they will pay him to do.

Samuel L. Jackson has a cult of fans on the internet, that's undeniable, the thing is, after the ABSOLUTLEY EXELENT Pulp Fiction, I think he hasn't had any really good roles to portray his "Bad mothafucka" role his so fammous for...

I mean, his newer work, (shaft, snakes on a plane, star wars) has been kind of "meh"

black snake moan, jackie brown, and the negotiator come to mind.

So for all three years that he's hosted them, it's always been the fifth annual award show? You'd think they'd move on to the sixth or seventh by now, if that's the case.

Jackson may not be a gamer, but I think he is at least genuinely enthusiastic about them, as opposed to various hosts on game related shows.

And yeah, the Spike TV awards won't matter, just like every other games of the year round up out there.

But on a serious note, SLJ soiled his acting career with snakes on a plane.

SOaP was not a disaster for his career. If anything it strengthened his fan base as it was the true fan film. I mean, the fact that he decided to do the movie on the name alone, without even reading the script, to me just shows pure humor. He is, SMJ and he kicks major ass.

We need an Academy of Interactive Art and Sciences ("sciences" because non-games are part of the industry now). Nothing attached to anything but the makers themselves has no business awarding anything to anybody.

These rewards are always stupid...they never give out the awards to the games that deserve it. I guarantee the major winners will be Madden and Halo, neither of which should be anything special.

Before all you Halo fanatics go crazy, Halo was a great game, but hardly game of the year material.

I watched the Spike video game awards once and I'll never do it again, it was SUPER boring.

I think he should be sat on a plane with a bunch of snakes..... Oh whoops forgot, they tried to kill him like that already... hows about throwing him off a building? that seemed to work, kinda. Lets just do it a couple times more!

Hopefully he'll announce GotY and Best 360 Game at the same time, since they're the same fucking thing.

I still remember watching the first ten or so minutes of what I think was the first year of this awards show, in which they announced Madden 200X as game of the year. I'm sure they thought announcing the highest profile award right from the get-go would be "edgy" or something, but I reaped a much more practical effect from it: knowing for certain that I never had to bother with another minute of this utter crap.

"IF YOU HAVE TO SHOOT ME, THEN U GO AHEAD AND U SHOOT ME, BUT I HAVE TO PICK UP THIS PHONE!"..."guys...duck"...
