Sony drops ad agency responsible for Universe commercials

It seems Sony is finally fed up with being the brunt of industry jokes with its long list of laughable commercials. In Sony's recent internal review for its $150 million advertising account, it eliminated its 13-year ad agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, from consideration.

With TBWA out of the picture, it leaves four other companies in contention. Two companies, Publicis in the West and Deutsch have been requested to present further information, while the other two have not been contacted, according to Advertising Age.

The recently released company was responsible for delivering Sony's Universe line of commercials, which are currently airing on TV. However, while TBWA/Chiat/Day was tasked with delivering the new line of commercials, Superfad is the production company that actually created the ads, so there still is a possibility that Sony continues the impressive ads.

Haha exactly, those were terrible. Now the new ads with the universe, those are more entertaining than the TV shows I am watching. They almost make me drool for PS3 -- I can vouch for their effectiveness, I really want one... I will stop fast forwarding my DVR just to watch the PS3 commercials these days, so let's hope Sony can keep up this marketing.

I hope they choose Publicis, they have an office here. I might have to send in my resume.

Good riddance? Worst ads ever? It isn't like Sony didn't have approval. I say fire the people that told them to run those ads.

Don't you think Sony would want the most kick-arse ads ever? Well, you also have to look at a companies ability to make decent ads, which is probably why they dropped them and went with a more talented ad company.

I say give the company responsible for the recent ads a go. The Uncharted, R&C commercials, evenly heavenly sword commercials are pretty good and right to the point. The big PS3 monolith with extensions (shown above) is also ok in showing what it is capable of.

I hate Wii's commercials the most... how did those rednecks let 2 foreigners in their house? they shouldve been shot on site!

I don't understand why ads for the PS3 have to be so friggin' complicated. Show a bunch of people having an awesome time around the TV then show a bunch of in-game video. Done.

The black blob up there is neat, but 2/3 of the screen time you're not seeing anything that has anything to do with the PS3. The in-game videos are barely long enough to register as an image.

Are they responsible for the UK ads ?, if so, they deserved to get booted long ago. If not, I hope whoever is responsible for the uk ads is packing their bags as we speak.

I really like the ads they have right now, but there is no defending those horrible baby crying ads. I think that 13 years is long enough, and its time to bring in some new blood.

Sony must share some of the blame, because they had final say. I'm not sure if I would put it all on Sony, they trusted a professional advertising company to know what's great advertising. I think they really need to fire some YES MEN.

Just look at the picture above. If you've seen a commercial that did things like that, you were watching one of the "Universe of Entertainment" ads. It's the ones that have "Ladies and Gentlemen" by Saliva in the background.

To everyone saying that the baby ads were horrible, no, they were not. Are you all talking about it? Yes? Then it did its job. Sure, it doesn't advertise all the features of the system, but that's the point. The purpose is to grab your attention enough to make you want to research it on your own. I'm not saying I liked it, but those of you who say that it's the worst move Sony made... oh, please...

Wait...so is the universe PS3 ad gone? I LOVE those!

Aw, I liked the universe commercials and hated the This is Living commercials
