The Cult of Rapture has posted an update regarding the status of the, erm, update scheduled to seep into your PC and Xbox 360 copies of aquatic anarchy sim, BioShock. A patch (or "title update," as the Xbox Live euphemism goes) is expected to arrive next week, bringing with it free but as yet unspecified downloadable content. The undersea DLC will be bundled with the PC patch's TLC, and should be easy to see (provided you're not still on PCP) via the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Expect to read an exuberant and overwrought post on this very website as soon as we ascertain the nature of the mysterious downloadable content. New plasmids? Likely! Goomba skins for Big Daddies? Decidedly not.
[Thanks, DiddlyKong]

Any word on whether or not this will fix the messed up widescreen support in the PC version? They mentioned right after release during the media crapstorm that they'd be fixing it soon. It's been more than three months, and no patch or fix. Ho hum.
I made it about halfway through the game, but I've held off finishing it until they release a game that's not broken. I know that people could say I'm only punishing myself, and they may be right, but I've had a bunch of other wonderful gaming distractions in the interim, and I'm happy to wait.
Of course, this also means I won't ever be buying a 2K PC (or perhaps even XBox) title on launch day again - I refuse to put money into a game that is essentially broken on my PC, especially when the fix is basically ten lines of code to modify the POV value.
Oh, well.

Oh God. More about the POV from someone who can't help but feel the game is "broken" because he doesn't like the way they designed it.
There are a lot of broken games out there, apparently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understood it, the POV in wide screen includes everything that the designers expected players to see. And the regular POV just adds to that, which might be cool but doesn't mean that the game is in any way broken for wide screen players.

Let them call it a "feature" all they want. Showing LESS to people with widescreen monitors will forever and always be a bug. More should never equal less.

I agree about the subtitles, I'm a subtitle kinda guy since I have trouble hearing what everyone says with all the other stuff going on and the subtitles just make it more confusing by listening to what they say and transcribing at different intervals of time.

According to some "hackers", the secret achievement is called "bulletproof", and is awarded for completing the game on hard without dying. Have fun with that.

hey a bioshock thread
I've got a request for PC players, for a screenshot near the end of the game (slight spoiler):
In the last level, in the little sister nursery area, there were a few crayon drawings of big daddies. Can anyone take a screenshot of those for me? I have the 360 version, but those crayon drawings were awesome and I wanna make it my desktop. If you can, please get a big resolution :) fapomatic.com is a good imagehost too, fyi

an update? I beat the game a few months ago, but does this fix the cache problem (for the 360)? If so, I would love to play it again; well only if the smugness of Kevin L. is elimanated from the vid docs.

"2K community manager Elizabeth Tobey tells Shacknews that the DLC will at least include extra plasmids for players to mess around with, a way to disable Vita-Chambers for hardcore play, and bug fixes.
The patches will also address the game's field-of-vision perspective, following an intense bout of controversy over the way BioShock handles its widescreen display. "
Sounds good, but I've no idea what took them so long...

These tad-bits were hacked out a while ago. Just to let everyone know what to expect.

I'm glad the widescreen FOV change seems to be optional. The game was designed around its current widescreen FOV, and it works great. I don't want to make everything smaller...
