I bet you couldn't even tell me the origins of 'limey'. Without looking on wikipedia or google.

England lost because the majourity of players aren't working as a team, the star players are to busy trying to get on the tele, and the coach is daft in the head for tactics.

Games have nothing to do with why they are losing, it's all on them. Perhaps if England used games as a training device like South Korea, Germany, or even the local Italian clubs, they could do better for tactics.

The Eurocup is the most watched sport in HD. Funny how U.S. is the leader in H.D. tele, but American Football isn't the most watched.
See FIFA for other fun facts.

As an American, Im utterly embarrased by the degree of ignorance on display here in the comments made by other Americans. First of all, Id be hard pressed to call shoulder pads and helmets "state of the art body armor." Second of all, soccer is not a third world sport. Anyone who disagreed need only take a look at the coverage of the current League of Champions. From the state of the art stadiums that rival anything the US has to offer to the television presentation of the games and the amount of money being poured into the sport by all sorts of corporate sponsors, Soccer is THE worlds premier sport.
Soccer fans in Europe aren't missing anything that US sports fans have. Believe me American football fans, soccer fans are not jealous of you or your sport. And for the guy who said that American football is catching on in Europe, you need to pull your head out of your ass holmes. NFL Europe just folded because football was just getting too damn popular in Europe right? I think you're just drinking the NFL kool-aid that was served a few weeks ago when the Dolphins played in London. You know what sport is taking off in Europe? Basketball or Baloncesto as they call it. You know what else is taking off the Euro. You know what's not? The American dollar. All of you American snobs talking down about Europe would do well to pay a visit to any of the more advanced EU nations. You'd be surprised as to just who is ahead of who. That said, I love the US but it makes me sad that the US is no longer the badass superpower who is light yeras ahead of the rest of the world.

Oh and by the way, European women are just as hot if not hotter thanAmerican women.

Coming from America (and residing in Manchester) I can say Amen to that!

I'm embarrassed by some of my countrymen who still think the world revolves around America. The NFL will most likely stay in North America. Football (soccer) is just too popular and I think it says something when more and more American sporting team franchise owners are buying up English Premier League teams like it's going out of style.

Randy Lerner - Aston Villa
George Gillett and Tom Hicks - Liverpool FC
... and of course the mightiest of them all,
Manchester United - owned by Malcom Glazer

Shhh... It's ok... You know when we're right =)

This makes little sense.

Anyway, I'm not sure what's so unattractive about full-on steroid use, possible bionic weaponry and explosive soccer balls.

Then ya' know... maybe soccer would be fun to watch.

Go ahead, you can try blaming videogames like everyone else does, but we know that the real problem was pride.

France won the FIFA world cup in 1998, then the Euro Cup in 2000.

Guess who didn't even pass the qualifying rounds at FIFA 2004, not being able to defeat Senegal and Denmark.

Seriously you won't increase your soccer skills by playing Bejeweled. I mean you should be playing something like Mario Strikers, now that would help.

a sport with no hand eye coordination (cept the goalie) is blah

it is played all over the place since it is a simpleton game and poor dirt places can play it

make a video game where you can snipe soccer players and the USA will buy into that

Both are good sports, If you enjoy them right. Also, both bow to mudwrestling, so there's that.

Whining is the key to victory. Or a good substitute.

HEY GUYS, LET'S BLAME VIDEO GAMES FOR EVERYTHING BAD THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED

Actually, video games improve spatial abilities so, get off your lazy "arses" and stop making excuses for your bad sportsmanship. And injuries. And bad scores.

Major reason soccer aint popular in US: commercials. In baseball, basketball, and football there are ample opportunities to have commercials. Companies sponsor and support those sports.
However, soccer's clock doesn't stop and the field is so large. The large field makes it hard to focus on the action. Hockey isn't as bad since the arena is smaller so is more tightly focused.
There's also the seemingly larger element of luck than in the other sports. Make the perfect pass but can't score due to a quarter second mis-step. One of the pure enjoyments Americans find in sports is the momentum shifting do or die situations in the last minutes. Literally the last minute of basketball and football can stretch to 10-20 minutes. That pure excitement of the final momentum is much harder to actually capitalize in soccer.

btw that vid was from 1-2 years ago, Robert green doesn't play for England team at the moment, and the score at the top says England B vs Belarus lol not even the right teams get ur vid right please.

plus redknapp was saying kids would rather play soccer Sims like fifa 08 then go out side and play football, not that video games were bad, just that there isn't as many people in the parks kicking a ball around as there used to be.

While this report by the manager is a bunch of crap, the comments in here are hilarious :) Just goes to show how out of touch individual Americans are with the rest of the world. I love Americans, but seriously, some of you are a disgrace to your nation.

The English team gets paid too much, that I agree to, not to mention our manager sucked, the goal keeper sucked, the performance was lazy, I mean God, I have seen far better from England, this however gives Americans no right to comment on our team.

Where is an American team? Wait, did you say they exist? Then why are they not seen? Whats that? They can't play soccer and prefer more manly sports?

Wait, hold up, football? I could have sworn the words 'foot' and 'ball' meant something, then theres rugby, wanna talk about real men? Why are your players wearing Armour? The rest of the world doesn't need armour, we play with nothing but our bodies and the ball, we have no need for knee pads, helmets, shoulder pads, backside pads, groin protection, nose bleed protectors. Etc etc etc. Then theres Nascar, isn't that the sport where you pointlessly drive around in a circle for ages and get dizzy -_-"

NFL take over Europe by storm..........lololololololol, thats the funniest thing I have ever heard, dude, you should be a comedian! Harldy anyone watched it, only Americans and a few English went to see it, and I would be surprised if it took Wembley where it took place by storm, because it certainly didn't get as far as where I live, let alone Europe. Why watch that crap when Hamilton was on TV, dropped down to last and try to make the biggest comeback in F1 history with every European urging him on. Thats REAL sport, sport isn't about how manly you are, otherwise NFL, Nascar, Baseball and whatever else you have fails, its about the participation, the individuals putting in the effort and succeeding no matter what the sport is, be it Nascar or mountain climbing.

The reason Americans make up their own sports in not because you want to be unique, otherwise we would all take part too, its because you can't play the sports everyone else plays, like the little child in school who can't play with the others, so goes and uses the computers in the library and says he's unique.

What about Gaelic football? The word foot and ball relate to a "ball game" played "on foot". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_(word) Thats a tired old argument.

Rugby is a fine game, but neither soccer nor rugby have ANYWHERE NEAR the contact that american football has.

Get a clue.

lol reading these comments is quite hilarious, im english and personally i dont really enjoy watching football but i think the whole concept of american football is terrible. theres lots of pros/cons to each that you could argue for eternity and you wouldnt come to a solution as its down to personal preference. yet, blindly arrogant americans still defend their country and whatever traits it has so vigourously even if it goes against what they actually feel just to be "patriotic" and end up looking like complete retards to the rest of the world and most other americans in the process. i think that you should have a long hard look at the many many problems and failures that your country has and come to accept them before you try blindly defending them and trying to insult other countries, making you look even more stupid.

back on subject, the whole reason for the england football teams shortcomings is a complete lack of competence in turning good young players (13-18) into fantastic footballers through good coaching and letting them play for top english sides instead of a bunch of foreigners, and when they get there not become famous and rich celebrities who care nothing for the game but run for 90 mins non stop. e.g. David Beckham, he could have been the best football player ever yet he got married to that fugly disgusting pencil and never got better, btw im suprised no one else has mentioned him

Unique...don't make me laugh, its one of two reasons, American's can't abide by the rules of the worlds sports but likes to enforce them elsewhere and expect others to listen or you just can't play our sports. Its as simple as that.

I usually don't agree with what some ignorant British people say about other cultures and Americans especially, but these comments just show the ignorance on the other side of the fence, no point quenching ignorance on this side if there is ignorance on that side too.

If there was one Americans sport that I wish the rest of the world took more part in, that would be Basketball without a doubt, all the rest seem either pointless or somewhat brain dead. Ice Hockey manages to slightly catch my attention as well, but all the rest are pretty much dubbed down or Armour protected versions of what the rest of the world play.

Kudos to the fact America has some of the greatest Tennis players I have seen, just proves that you can play well and abide by the world's rules when you want to, why not make an entirely new sport for that too, whack bricks over a dog or something and rename it....tennis, then say the rest of the world doesn't know the real meaning of Tennis.

Please stop generalizing Americans. We all aren't idiots who believe the world revolves around us. Though most of the comments I've read by Americans here seemed to come from people who fit the picture, I also see a lot of others, especially ones from Britain, who place the stereotype over every person who lives in America. So please don't insult the whole country for the actions of a few people.

Also to those who think Americans are meat-headed baboons who only care about American-football: My favorite sport, along with some of my friends, is football!
