MSFT should be worshipped for this. I have over 200GBs of anime and other movie files that were screaming for this update. Now I should be able to use my remote to control the video instead of walking over to the PC.

Does anyone know if it supports Subs? I watch a lot of japanese/korean movies, subtitle support is an absolute must.

Also, any world on 1680x1050 support?

Who uses divx? I know it's essentially the same thing but doesn't everyone use XviD instead?

Why use MCE when there is WMP11?

Can you get TV over WMP11 on the Xbox 360?

Does it have a nice interface with thumbnail previews on WMP11 through the 360?

Whats the freaking point of having the Xbox360 be a Media Center Extender when the 360 running in that mode is the most gimped media player?

Guess i'll have to CONTINUE to use Transcode360 because Microsoft doesn't know how to update the 360 MCE interface.

So I should spend more money when I have something that should work for free?

I can't stand apple products, anyway. To much DRM. At least with my PC I control the content and how I get it. I just think it would be nice for MS to put the latest revision of MCE software on the 360 (that FULLY supports divx/xvid), instead of relegating it to just the dashboard. Whats the point in having the feature?

Wait, did you get the latest update already? How do you know DivX doesn't work on MCE extender yet without trying it for yourself when the update starts tommorrow.

Po0py subtitles I belive is already supported with the current encodings (wmv etc.) but I'm not sure if they will add it to the new set.
I would expect they would though.

Did anyone /really/ think you wouldn't get it?

It was confirmed for the PS3 and just not-quite-confirmed by some quick back peddling by the DivX people for 360. It was damn obvious it was coming.

So, is this Divx support through Windows Media Connect or only with XP Media Center Edition??

I have normal Windows XP and I have tons of movies/tv shows I want to stream to my big screen TV.

Yech, why'd they use the Platinum Hits version of Crimson Sky's boxart? I've always found the "hits" line of boxarts to be ugly and, thus, seeked out the normal versions. PS1 had ugly green side banners (and the new disc labels were in black&white), PS2 and GCN had lame looking banners, and Xbox was the worst offender.

I always wonder why they can't simply leave the boxart alone with these reduced price games? Or if they just HAVE to let people know "Hey, this game was popular, so now it's cheaper! Buy it now!" then how about just a sticker on the shrink wrap?

Pointless side-rant over.

Maybe I have a problem... I like to collect videogame stuff, games, toys, etc...

Almost every videogame that I have (since the N64 era), I keep the receipt inside the boxes... I have every box of my systems too, in perfect shape, with everything inside.

Last week I bought again, the regular versions of Viewtiful Joe 2 and Kingdom Hearts, because I had the Players Choice version and the Greatest Hits version.

I don't like my games in that format =(

When I'm waiting for a game to drop in price, I get it as soon as they announce it's on the "hits" list. That way, I get it after the price drop is official, but before the new shipments are sent out.

It's win-win!

But sometimes its to late... I want Castevania Dawn o Sorrow for the DS, and the only version this days is the ugly Konami box.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who does such things. Call it sentimental bullcrap, but I like my boxes =)

I still have my original Chrono Trigger box still in the original plastic wrap it came in when I bought it from Toys R Us years and years ago, meticulously cut open, like the OCD freak that I am...

i think they use ugly box art on purpose so that early adoptors who bought the game at full price wouldn't be as mad that others bought the same game cheaper later on.

I'm all about the packaging amongst other things. People ask me why I buy games, especially after gloating how they just got 'x' game downloaded. In no particular order of priority:

1) Packaging. Sorry but a loose disc scribbled in sharpie looks like shit. You also can't spine it on a shelf. A jewel case with a printed label also looks obvious to me.

2)Art. You might consider this one and the same as packaging, but if a game has good art on the cover, it makes me want to collect it even more. Take the Transformers movie release just a couple of months ago. The regular dvd version has that three shot of Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and Megatron, all looking slightly wall eyed. The special edition version was so much cooler looking, and the hddvd version mirrors that packaging. I chose the special edition, almost solely because of the esthetics of the cover, with the special features as an after thought.

2) It supports the industry that produces that which I love the most, hobbywise. You vote with your dollars. Buy the good games, skip the crap on a platter games and the industry learns from it's mistakes. We'll always have shovelware, but as long as good games get bought, we'll see more good games coming.

3) Piracy. It pisses me off when I hear about people renting games from Blockbuster and copying them or just downloading them. I know many people that work in the games industry. The amount of work, both blood and sweat, that they put into that game that you just casually copied would sicken you should you actually take time to notice.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I always thought they did that to encourage people to buy the games before the games come down in price. Although the original Xbox's Platinum Hits boxes probably looked a bit nicer than the normal boxes.

I hate the classic/platinum boxes. If I ever owned one I'd feel like a cheap whore in a crack den. I think it's an excellent idea, of course to lower the price of popular games but can't they do something nice with it? Maybe just have the XBOX 'X' in silver or something with a sticker on the plastic wrapping saying "Classic - Sold over xxxxxx copies"...
