Dojo update: Friends List
14
We've known about Brawl's online mode for a while now, but today's dojo update takes a closer look at the nuts and bolts of how it all works when playing with friends (you may recall that you can play with non-friends, but their name won't be visible). And boy, does it look simple.
The first thing you'll need to do, as you'd expect, is swap Friend Codes. Yes, they're a royal pain in everybody's backside, but let's face facts: due to Nintendo's "safety first" approach, they're here to stay. Once Friend Codes have been entered into your Wii, they stay there forever, allowing you to view the status of your Brawl buddies. From there, if you fancy some fisticuffs, it's simply a matter of somebody hosting the game, and the rest of your pals piling in. Piece of cake, eh?

Friend codes aren't any more of a hassle to me than learning a phone number or e-mail address, and after visiting my gf's little brother and hearing him and his friends swear into their XBOX headsets like maniacs I am grateful that Nintendo prevents 12 year olds from harassing my already frail ego with harsh words. I graduated 6th grade so I wouldn't have to be treated like that anymore lol.
ANY time I've been playing an online game, there are only three things I might have said: 1) Involuntarily Complimenting my Foe for Defeating Me 2) Angrily Yelling At Them For Beating Me 3) Harshly Criticizing them for Losing to Me. The world is a better place that I can't do this and it can't be done to me. Besides, if they are your friend you can call them or voice chat while you play.

Nintendo's Friend Code system may not be the best for hard core gamers but if you head over to http://www.NintendoWorlds.com you can get around that system.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl Friend codes can be easily traded and its also a great Nintendo Forum. Check it out!

No.. because on Nintendo Worlds the member actually do more than just share friend codes and then never do anything. Basically mapwii sucks, and we don't.

Captain Falcon uses items to level the playing field for his competitors. It's a technicality to kill defending himself from armed opponents.

i play online multiplayer games on pc, and i too find myself turning into my profane, trash-talking, alter ego. this safety-first approach will essentially preclude any chance for a community to take root other than on forum listings, but it'll result in an interesting trade-off that i will just have to experience first before i can assess it qualitatively.
i'm not so familiar with nintendo's other forays into online play so i still have some questions like: can separate accounts / friend codes be created? i'm guessing the answer is no...
"real men use items!" i lol'd. any guy named nate, who uses a peach avatar and a tagline like that, surely has some identity issues.

i don't mind friend codes, it a one-time thing, and it isn't too bad, but they probably did it for the same reason they did the jackets and wrist straps, to void lawsuit, for example "Little Jimmy was kidnapped because he was playing online with a stranger on his Nintendo Wii" or some crap parents and morons would blame on video games, anyway, i'm neutral for the update, just why today

Well, I guess I was wrong about a character reveal today (on occasion of this being the original release date). I can't say I'm disappointed, but I know they had to detail the Friends List at some point or another. I'll be rather shocked if they don't reveal a new character by the end of the week though...

For me... it's just why today? I expected so much more out of today, the original release date... I wanted something good... at the very least, some new, interesting, GOOD information... at the most, a demo, but I realized my hopes their were high...
