"For the record, I saw both endings in Kane & Lynch before writing about it."
That doesn't necessarily mean that he plaid the game all the way through.

I'm gonna miss Jeff on GameSpot, but I'm not gonna miss GameSpot. I'm done with that site.

Hope Jeff lands on his feet somewhere, and it turns out to be a better opportunity.

It's interesting that although neither side can "confirm" the validity of this rumor; if it were not true both sides would surely have swiftly debunked it. So by default both Gamespot and Gertsman have actually confirmed the rumor.

The guy is a class act. Unless he signed a non-compete contract, any other San Fran-based game site should snatch him up.

Gerstman turned out to be an unlikely on-camera personality and podcast star. He should move on up from editorial and try and leverage the controversy for a TV job.

The Maxim guy responsible for this should be fired for the fallout. That's the next big question.

P.S:
Having played through Zelda Twilight Princess, I completely agree with that 8.8 score. If everyone gives TP a 9.5 then how are we supposed to know that Galaxy's 9.5 is because it's that much better. There needs to be room for the most innovative games to get higher scores or the 9.5 becomes meaningless.

Jeff Gerstmann died for your sins! He is perhaps the greates martyr the world has ever seen.

So has the internet group mind decided that 8.8 is now the official Twilight princess review score? I'd like to know, I hate finding myself on the opposite side of people who "tell it like it is".

Jeff,

Watching the two endings on youtube then playing the first level doesn't count as playing the game enough.

Cmon, we all know that fat shit never played past the intro level. Anyone who uses Gamefaqs can find out there are 2 endings. Lazy fat-ass got his lazy fat-ass fired for not doing his tough job of playing games. Buh-bye Jeffy.

I have to say, I really don't consider anyone who reviews games a journalist. No offense to those people, but I don't really consider anyone in the entertainment media, be they a film critic or a pair of legs on Entertainment Tonight, to operate under jounralistic ethics.
That's the wonderful thing about journalism. It's an easy word to use, but a lot harder to practice, particularly when you are trying to make a buck off of ad revenue. I think the trick is for readers to understand that you are not the main source of revenue for a publication. Therefore, your interests are secondary. Sure, you can argue that no one will read the article if no one has faith in your opinion. But, given the fact that no 10 gamers can seem to agree on what constitutes a good game and what sucks and doesn't suck, I don't really see how any publication would have a problem finding a market to sell to their adverstisers.
Sadly, this state of affairs not only applies to game reviews, but to, in my opinion, more important issues, including coverage of our government and corporations. As readers, we really have to be wary of the motivations of anyone claiming to be journalist. Even the "old media" like newsapers makes most of its money off of advertising. And you have to read everything with a critical eye.

+1 Amen brother. Didn't think most people could be harsher than me on media, but I fully agree. If this is done with videogames, you can only imagine what happens when it comes to politics, and massive multi-conglomerate corporations.

Actually, the fact that neither side is commenting on the reasons for the firing says to me that it hasn't got much to do with the K&L review.

I mean, it's entirely possible that with the new management, the editorial staff was being held to a certain, different standard of factualness or even writing style, and if Jeff repeatedly refused to fall in line, that could prompt such a reaction. I'm not saying it was his fault or vice versa, but I am trying to explain why no one has come out and even HINTED that it was Eidos. I mean, by now we should have had some hush hush source or SOMETHING to keep this rumour alive, but there's not a shred of evidence to support it right now.

I'd say he got fired because in the eyes of whoever makes those calls at gamespot, he was bad at his job. I mean, it could come down to a professionalism issue, in which case I applaud everyone keeping mum on the subject (legalities aside), as no one wants their professional / personal shortcomings aired out for the world to see.

Hey man, screw journalism, try pizza delivery. The hours are good, you get tips (which is real nice between paydays), your customers love you, you get instant access to secured areas etc.

I have to suggest that whatever you end up doing, you should really consider working out a little more, a better bodyshape would help you in your coming jobhunting.

Good to see that Gerstmann is holding up well. Seems he will land on his feet after all. I wish him the best in his future endeavors. I didn't always agree with his reviews but I've always respected him.

As for GameSpot, I hope the GS editors such as Alex Navarro get out before things come crashing down. CNET's credibilty is gone and I don't wish to see them in the same light.

Game manufacturers are incredibly hypocritical, they vilify people that download games yet pay editors and gaming review sites money to put their latest games on a pedestal. Granted, enough people that download games never intend on buying them, but it realistically the only way to find out what you are getting in a game. Either way they screw over their customers.

Honestly I had no idea who Gertsman was before this issue. Yet I don't read "official" reviews I read user reviews (at last at Gamespot). Of course I don't swear by the number, more by what is inside, because honestly a videogame is qualitative information, not quantitative information as reviwers try to show us. (Nothing against Gertsman, sounds like he was just doing his job, even though I may not quite agree with what he does.)
