Activision's biggest pre-merger franchises are all (GASP!) getting sequel treatment. In a fact sheet concerning the Activision Blizzard deal (PDF file), the publisher lists Guitar Hero 4, Call of Duty 5, a new Tony Hawk title (which would be its 11th iteration), a James Bond game and a racing title with the recently-acquired Bizarre Creations, as well as licensed titles with Dreamworks and Marvel.
None of these sequels come as a surprise, as they are all critical and commercial successes, but this is the first official confirmation of their existence. According to Activision Blizzard's earlier conference call, 50% of Activision's revenues are derived from franchises it owns outright, including Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. It should be noted that as well that all three franchises also have competition from rival Electronic Arts in the form of Rock Band, Medal of Honor and Skate. No word on project release dates for any of the sequels.

COD5 should move to some more squad based format... Hell, take Madden style playbooks for laying out different routes for your squad over the terrain, that would be pretty damn cool.

Hrm, well bm, you may be right but I don't even really consider COD4 to be a Call of Duty game. It's pretty fresh for a sequal. I love original games though, give me something like Shadowrun again (but with a single-player the average player will never touch to keep people from getting pissy).
COD4 single player was quite epic and one of the few FPS's I'll play through singleplayer for. I love co-op campaign with a passion but I can't push myself to play through a game alone. Almost hated Gears of War becase I tried playing through on singleplayer by myself after getting my ass handed to me in my first two or three MP matches, but I decided to try out co-op online and man was I hooked.
The multiplayer in COD4 was good but not as rewarding as one might think with all the given challanges and unlockables.
That said the last COD game I've owned was the first one, played the demo for the second which was good but I didn't really care for WWII as much as everyone else did I guess. Rented COD3, never played the online and dabled a little in the singleplayer which wasn't that great.
COD4 deserves a rent for the singleplayer alone (mostly a rent because it is short) if you're the kinda guy who can play through a game alone without getting bored or distracted.

yeah, the singleplayer campaign took me like 7 hours to beat, but the multiplayer is awesome, I played it for a week straight before I even tried the singleplayer

Not just a sequel, a sequel to Yet Another Fucking War Themed FPS. Do you have any idea how many war themed games have come out in the past year or so? I dare you to count them.
I am sick of them, and just because one of them is "the best" doesn't make me any more inclined to play it.
GTFO yourself, lulz.

If they just try to stop being something they're not and make an honest effort to start over with a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 then I may buy the new game. They have a serious identity problem and should just ignore skate. and try to be their own game this time around. That and if they add Oprah & Dr. Phil as playable unlockable skaters.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 holds a special place in my heart and is one of the many reasons my Dreamcast will never be removed from my top shelf of gaming (best way to describe how I arrange the little space I have in my appartment with the systems that are not only my more favorite but the ones that get the most play time and hold a special place in my heart).
Yep, currently got my Dreamcast, 360, and Wii taking the 3 available spots. The working NES I've had forever (My first NES still works while the other two only work once in a rare occasion) has recent been taken from the shelf when a friend came over and potentially doused it with water on accident. I won't take that chance again.

Haha that reminds me, still got my N64 in my living room with Goldeneye 64 in the slot and Super Smash Bros. on the side and 4-6 controllers with Rumblepacks/(one with the huge ass rumblepack that allowed for a memory card to be inserted at the same time). Haven't got to play it since my last roommate moved away.

One thing I've always admired about the Call of Duty series is that it's one of the few things that can bring the British and Americans together, even if for only a moment, to hate something equally without bicking amongst one another.
Of course there is an exception, always a few mis-informed elitist British and stupid vulgar Americans to ruin everyones day.

We need a new game from Infinity Ward where we play from the perspective of a Rage Against the Machine song. Haha, wouldn't that be lovely?
Certainly would be new and exciting.

Wow, why do ppl bash Treyarch and Call of Duty 3 so much. It was actually a good game. I have it. Its not AS good as COD2 of course but its not garbage. COD Big Red One for PS2 was also pretty good and that was from Treyarch as well. Anyway I really doubt that Activision will get anyone else than Infinity Ward for part 5. Which is great because COD4 MW is so freakin addicting it isnt even funny. Time flys when I play that game =)

Just to clarify I never hated Treyarch, they brought my favorite skate game to the Dreamcast (see: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2).
However, I wasn't really a fan of COD3. That said I never tried the multiplayer and got a little bored with the singleplayer. It was a decent game but not my bag. Plus I was never a huge fan of the Call of Duty series.

If I remember correctly, Tony Hawk's Project 8 came out last year and was their 8th game. That would make Tony Hawk's Proving Ground their 9th game... THEY'RE SKIPPING TEN! YOU BASTARDS!!

Actually if you really want to get technical it will have been the 12th Tony Hawk game. The list of all the Tony Hawk branded games are below (not including later ports/revamps* or arcade/mobile versions)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Pro Skater 2, Pro Skater 3, Pro Skater 4, Underground, Underground 2, American Wasteland, American Sk8land, Project 8, Downhill Jam, and finally Proving Grounds.
*-These were the ports to other consoles with extra features and enhanced graphics. The title had "Remix" added to the end or an "x" to the number.
*-i.e. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, Tony Hawk's Underground LP, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3D, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Street.

So in total there have been 16 Tony Hawk titles that I know of. There may be more, and this is not considering how many platforms it has been released on because the GBA version is probably a considerably different game than the console version even if they do share the same title. If you wanted to consider those the number would be much higher.
Wonder what Tony Hawk 17 will be like when it comes out in 6 months.

Well I'm counting newest, most powerful console iterations. Granted, Downhill Jam was first released on Wii, it is nowhere near as powerful as the PS360 counterparts. There have been 9 iterations of the whole earnyournameasaskateboarder idea. Downhill Jam was a racer.

This is a great story about THPS2
Back in 2001, my school's Computer Club (aka nerd club) held a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater tournament. It was a $5 entrance fee, and the winner would get half the pot (the rest was a fundraiser).
Well, about 3 weeks beforehand, my bro, who is a GOD at this game, started telling everyone he would dominate the tournament. The more his ego spread, the more people joined, until there were almost 100 players signed up. The whole time people asked me how good my bro was, and I just laughed.
When the day of the tournamnet came, my brother was almost booed out of the room for his hubris. Just for effect, I placed him last in the tourney. The rules were simple: you play the selected stage for 2:00, with any skater, and whoever has the highest score wins.
After the other 83 players played, the 2-minute high score was 121,700. My bro stepped up, grabbed the Dreamcast controller, and made a pompous speech thanking everyone else for their money.
He started skating, jumped onto the first rail, and went berserk. When he finished his first combo, it was 21 seconds into the game. He landed at 0:22 and had a score of 140,000+. Haha, a riot practically ensued.
Anyway he finished the run with 790,000 points, by then most of the people left, claiming I rigged the tourney, but my bro had $200 and a lot of bragging rights. My plan for the tournament fundraiser met our semester goals and we bought a pizza party and copies of Starcraft for the computer lab!
Man, thanks Tony Hawk. Thanks for selling out, it made my life AWESOME!!!

5. TH Underground
6. TH Underground 2
7. TH American Wasteland
8. TH Project 8
9. TH Proving Ground
10. The unnamed next one
You're not counting Downhill Jam, are you? Because that's really not a Tony Hawk game per se, it's a spinoff, like Mario Tennis or something.
