Not if I was already richer than shit. I'd appreciate that people like my music enough to share it with people they don't even know. And realize that word of mouth and radio play sells more tickets to shows (where I make my real money) than album sales ever could.

And despite metallica's and the RIAA efforts, the number of people sharing music is much greater now than when they started their lawsuit crusade in 2003. Something like 3 times larger.

Especially when you consider that this was the band whose popularity was made by the trading of bootleg casette recordings among fans.

Appearently it was OK to get your start that way, but the scary new technology for doing the same thing was an easier excuse to make for lagging sales than to come out and say: "Ok guys, we let the money go to our heads, we tried to cash in on the alternative thing since that seems popular. When the whiny album we made for our girlfriends took off, we just were too scared to going back to not getting radio play. We'll make a real album now"

Those are valid. But I'm just saying it because whatever the circumstances and excuses are, distributing content without the owner's consent/permission is wrong.

Is this the same song they've been playing at concerts for the past few years?

If you search Youtube for "Metallica New Song" you're sure to find it.

Surprised Lars hasn't sued Youtube yet. ;)

the first new song was pretty good which surprised the hell out of me. If james could still sing it would be even better. And yes it looks like they're putting guitar solos back in which is always nice. i never get tired of watching a 40 year old kirk destroy most guitarists from today.

for the people who are saying they never hear metallica on the radio anymore, well der why would emo stations play them? I live a few counties north of tampa and I get modern rock stations from gainesville, tampa bay, jacksonville, and daytona beach, and every single one of them not only play metallica songs (mostly older ones), but they ALL do something at night called mandatory metallica where they play 3 random metallica songs in a row. Also when St. Anger was released, the one from tampa bay played every single metallica song ever made that day, and nothing else till midnight.

So dont say they're not relevant anymore, otherwise the stations wouldn't play them and they wouldn't sell out every venue they play in

Anyone else besides me notice how metallica's older stuff was NEVER played on teh radio until they came out against Napster?

Let's see.... Big band comes out against RIAA losing money... Money losing software is shut down, Big Band's stuff suddenly played on radio stations nationwide, where RIAA generally tells station managers what to schedule.... HMMMMMM coincedence?

jeez... how pathetic to hop the "bash Metallica bangwagon though I probably couldn't name more than 1 song they sing".

Half of you wouldn't say anything if it weren't for other people complaining. Metallica is an awesome band and just because they do a couple of stupid things doesn't make their music bad.

You people are so fickle. It's hard to believe you'd prefer the new 'rock' of today over good music of the 80's and early 90's.

Good music officially died with the new millenium.

And what makes you think that Metallica was one of the worthwhile metal bands of the 80's at all?

maybe because every album they put out in the 80s is regarded as legendary in the metal community, including what is widely regarded as the best heavy metal album ever, master of puppets.

The only album regarded as legendary was Master Of Puppets (And I've always felt for Mr. Rasmussen having to edit Ulrich with an X-acto and scotch tape). Kill 'em All is mediocre at best and Ride the Lightning is good but hardly (At the time or nowadays) the stuff of legends.

I put it in another post, but Metallica hardle ever gartered the critical acclaim that bands like Anthrax, Voivod, Sabbat, Kreator or D.R.I. got. What they got instead was the sales, congratulations!

Yeah but what we are all forgetting is that Metallica is heinous.

Well, I'm sure it'll either be "New Song" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwsbUUEOT9g ) or "Other New Song" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPAOzp2YOA&feature=related ), so it's not really gonna be a "premier", considering its leaked alllll over the internet (which Metallica has stated they are OK with nowadays, as long as they buy the album when it comes out).

Personally, Metallica is my second favorite band, after Iron Maiden (which Maiden fans will see by my name), but I've only got two of their albums, Black and ..And Justice for All. I've downloaded all the rest of their songs, as well as a lot of live versions. I really don't give a shit at all if they are or were against online downloads, I still think their music kicks ass, and am going to obtain and listen to it through whichever means is most convenient to me (illegally).

Anyways, I don't have Rock Band (waiting for a slightly cheaper Wii Version if I get it at all), so I can't really relate to this news, but I can say, the song won't be like a breakthrough event, considering many people have already heard the song. "New Song" and "Other New Song" are played on Sirius from time to time, its not exactly new.

And now, for two slightly off topic comments. It's really just Lars thats the driving force behind Metallica's greediness. Ironically, Lars is probably the least talented member of Metallica. Hammet is a god at guitar, Trujillo, though new to Metallica is really damn good, and Hetfield is the primary song writer, and the majority of Metallica songs kick ass. Lars is just a friend of Hetfield's that happened to have a drumset around the time of forming the band.

Also, I think they should show some more Iron Maiden love. Maiden has more legendary albums than you can count on two hands, more than half of which would make for amazing songs to play in Rock Band. Instead, we get Run to the Hills, which is a kick ass song, but its a shitty cover. No band can come close to Maiden's actual sound.

Not so fast, if you're a fan of good rock and metal music of the 80's and early 90's, I'll guarantee you that if you listen to Maiden's latest 3 albums, Brave New World, Dance of Death, and A Matter of Life and Death, you'd take that statement back.

But I hear where you're coming from, the majority of the music coming out these days calling itself rock and even metal is just overdone, mainstream shit. The good old days are over, but there still are a few good bands coming out with new stuff. And I have high hopes for Metallica's latest album.

If you saw one of their video interviews, James was talking about how they met Lars through some mutual friend or something and the first time they heard him play, all they could do is look at each other speechless because they thought it must be his first time playing drums.

I love Metallica but St Anger was absolute shit.
Its not like they can get any worse though, unless Britney Spears starts doing vocals for them.

To anyone who comments about how bad mettalica is and how they are sellouts or what ever. Really havent seen metallica in person. To me out of hundreds of Metal shows I;ve been and it includes from Aerosmith to Napalm Death. Metallica ranges in the top 3 shows in person. Their energy is just nasty. And yes they play atleast half of their old shit even in todays shows. I laugh when I hear comments about old metal and todays metal. So who cares metal will be metal and support the damm shit. Evolution of styles is what keeps the genre alive. I wouln't like to hear styles of when Exodus, overkill, death, vemon, ruled the underground metal scene still being played 20 years later. I welcome change. By the way look how many people still see Metallica in their live shows compare to any other speed metal band during their era. Most of them dont even play any more and the few that still do dont even bring half the crowd Metallica brings. As to this thread. Buy it or don't buy simple as that.

Well its always funny to read some comments to see that people who dont like something have to voice there opinion. Cause it just shows how much you really care to "WASTE" your time about something you dont like. Which is laughable in itself. Now about the selling out. lmao have you ever heard of a band called tool. Think to a song off Aenima. or look it up rather. You may not get my reference but those that do will appreciate my point. Ahh why bother for the simpletons. Here is 2/3rds of the song: Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger you should know that I'm the man,
and if I'm the man, then you're the man, and he's the man as well
so you can point that fuckin' finger up your aaaaaaaaaaass!

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever even heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
and then you bought ooone.
I've got some Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger you should know that I'm the man.
If I'm the fuckin' man then you're the fuckin' man as well,
So you can point that fuckin' finger up your aaaaaaaaaaaaaass!

consume,
be fruitful,
and multiply

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever even heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
and then you bought oooooooooooone!

All you
read and
Wear or
see and
Hear on
TV
Is a
product
Begging
for your
Fatass
dirty
Dollar.
So ... Shut up and
Buy, my
Buy, myyy
new record
Buy, my
Buy,
Send more money
Fuuuuuck you, buddy!

I guess my point in the end is damn near eveything you know or heard of is a sell out. And james hetfield writes alot of solos and not many people know that. They think of him as rhythm mostly. Damn he writes near everything which is why st. ass sucked so bad the band collaborated with bob rock playing bass.... so lol I shouldnt knock st anger though. The only rough part of it was the snare to the ears. And babies crying we want solos... lol man a solo does not make a good song. EVER! Although if in a proper place and fits the emotion and feel of the song its appropriate.

Besides this bickering is pointless. The addition to play along with any new single. I think adds alot of potential to see if you like a song and add one to the ever continuing DLC of Rock band. And than you can get the album. lol attained by your means of course..

OPETH IN ROCK BAND please! And more LOG could not hurt. lmao

So, at what point has your band made enough money that elitist idiots finally stop pointing fingers and screaming sellouts!!! every time you try something new? Seriously. They didn't need to sell out after their self titled album, retards. They already did. Load's a great album, probably among their best if you take Prince Charming from ReLoad and replace Mama Said with it.
