Whenever someone tells us that they don't like video games, it's moments like this that we look back to. You may have noticed already, but, in case you haven't: There's a new demo on Xbox Live for Culdcept Saga. We started reading a hands-on over at our sister site Xbox 360 Fanboy. But we're going to be straight with you dear reader: We couldn't make heads or tails of it.
Honestly, we were about two minutes in before we started daydreaming about owning our own wallpaper store. We think we heard something about a board game mixed with a card game, we just can't be sure. Now, we know there are probably some of you out there who have already made a beeline to your 360 to start downloading, and that's great! It's a fantastic reminder that video games are an incredibly rich and diverse tapestry made of a nigh-infinite number of threads ... even if we'd rather spend eight hours in a carpet store than hear about some of them.

The game isn't too deep but its deep enough to remain interesting (At least the original was). THe biggest problem I had with the original was how it seemed to cheat by always getting the rolls it needed to avoid your garrisoned squares.
I thought the original was equal parts fun and frustration.

The original Culdcept is a fantastic party game and a pretty difficult single player game. (Yeah I agree, the computer cheats.) I'm pretty excited for the new content.

Just a note guys: the "we" thing is annoying when N'Gai does it, but he's allowed because he works at NewsWeek. At Joystiq it's just annoying.

We've been using the editorial "we" since N'Gai was in short pants. As have editorial writers for more than a century.
Check it totally out!

But in articles like this, the editorial "we" feels way out of place and just looks obnoxious. The problem isn't with the editorial "we," it's with your writing.

I've never posted before but I have to stick up for Joystiq here. They're writing is always interesting (and funny) and I don't understand this complaint.
So keep it up, Joystiq, I think you're doing a great job.

I'm pretty sure the author of the article is talking about more people than just himself. I can't imagine a situation where the word "we" would be more appropriate.

I played the hell out of the PS2 version.
Maybe I'm just weird but I found it very involving, and I mean that in a good way.

Was it so hard to simply point out the demo without the irrelevant and dismissive 'Royal We' attitude?

The essence of the game is Monopoly with monsters instead of hotels, fights instead of fines, and a lot of personality in both the monsters and the NPCs. And since you build your own deck of monsters from captured cards, it is every bit as addictive as M:tG was back in the day.

An article on how a game was too boring to hold YOUR attention isn't an article about the game but your biased and willfully uninformed opinion and who gives a shit about you? Joystiq Please give assignments to people who have some sort of useful input!

myeh, just take it as the opinion of another games reviewer and/or be the judge for yourself. It's what demos and rentals are for. Based off what I've played in the demo, I'm very interested and have added it to my ever growing sinkhole/list of games to get =|

I also thought this was a well written and amusing article. This is the sort of "not very accessible" game that would turn off most of the mainstream, imho.
Joystiq does a nice job of pointing that out, without being rude.
I think the gist of the article is, with so many other great games out there, why would you waste your time with this obtuse contraption?

Sorry to hear your IQ isn't high enough to grasp a game as simple as this. And your A.D.D. MTV-numbed mind can't handle a game that isn't constantly twitch-and-kill with nothing on the screen for more than a few seconds. I found the game HELL-A-FUN and kudos to combining Monopoly and MTG in such a fun format. Even the mighty Sid Meier wasn't able to achieve as much.
Now if they could just have Heroes of M&M on XBLA...

Hi, I LOVE going on /b/, being a jerkoff anonymously, and hiding in the my bedroom so my sister won't beat my ass.
If you're going to post in objection, do it properly, and with some respect, especially since it's towards the people who write the site you deem to frequent.
As for the game, it's fun, but extremely repetitive, and by all means, it will dote on you. Hard.
It's worth
