Detroit prosecutor makes outdated violent games list for holidays
Detroit has a bit of a crime problem and prosecutor Kym Worthy is looking to bring that down by issuing her third annual list of the "Top 10 Most Violent Games" for parents. As GamePolitics points out, the list isn't looking to be topical or specific; wide brush strokes will do. For example, if reading literally, the original Grand Theft Auto, the original Manhunt, and last year's Scarface round out the top three. 50 Cent Bulletproof comes in at number four -- because that already forgotten 2005 title is on The problem with Worthy's list is its basic redundancy of what one would hope is common sense, because every title on her list is rated M. How about just telling parents not to buy M-rated games for their kids? Blanket statement, end of story. Why pick and choose games when the ESRB has been kind enough to slap an M on the cover, giving parents adequate warning in the first place?

I don't know why everybody likes GTA... bad graphics, bad controls, an overall bad game.
And it's not that violent.
Intentless @ Dec 4th 2007 3:11PM
Because your options were almost limitless... I spent hours climbing to the top of the mountain in san andreas and throwing stuff off.. My friends and I would take turns seeing who could get away with the craziest stuff... It might not be for everyone but it was a blast!

I've had it with your "opinions"
I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!

Better a Mario Kart battle

I personally think the Mario games are violent. I've never seen such a disregard for the safety of Turtles and Goombas in all my life. ;)
AoE @ Dec 4th 2007 3:37PM
@Todd,
Even worse, they promote the use of psychotropic drugs. You're running around in a mushroom kingdom that's bright, colorful, and very strange... eating mushrooms to gain powers and lives and whatnot. I hear Tim Leary made an appearance in the original Super Mario Bros. 2 as well...
Sean D. @ Dec 4th 2007 5:42PM
@AoE...
Worse? Or Better? If everyone did psychotropic drugs, the world might be a better place.

I like crackdown for almost the same reasons (Just got it as a pre-christmas gift).
Superpowers are cool too. And the fact you get to clean up the streets.
rainking187 @ Dec 4th 2007 5:00PM
Totally agree. I liked driving around listening to the oldies station in San Andreas, but even that was only fun for like 45 minutes, tops. Actually trying to complete missions was a terribly boring chore though.
...there was a 300 videogame? I totally missed that one.
Nigeria @ Dec 4th 2007 3:05PM
I like the tags: 'kill' 'kym-worthy'.
But how is the death of the Chinese gamer a related story? Death isn't funny, but what a way to go out anyways.

Overboard? No, not for people like that it isn't.

So, because someone made a stupid list, she is now a woman of ill repute?
I'm pretty sure she's black, maybe you should make fun of that somehow too. Right?

"So, because someone made a stupid list, she is now a woman of ill repute?"
Not everything everyone says is intended literally.
"I'm pretty sure she's black, maybe you should make fun of that somehow too. Right?"

Yes, because the problem with Detroit is singularly and solely upon the shoulders of those violent(outdated)video games.
And not the fact that OCP has yet to produce a working ROBOCOP 2 model that doesn't shoot its creator and then pop a cap in its own head.

Stupid, dumb B!tc#
If she actually did her damn job, then maybe there would be a crime problem in her god-forsaken city.
Then again, she is a politician (which isn't a real job), and she wouldn't be able to fix anything if she tried.
Stupid politicians.
Todd @ Dec 4th 2007 3:30PM
Huh?
"If she actually did her damn job, then maybe there would be a crime problem in her god-forsaken city."
Well with that line of thought, I hope she never does her job.
WiNG @ Dec 4th 2007 3:53PM
wow so let's recap
1. You're a misogynist.
2. You don't have a clear command of the English language.
3. You have no clue how politics works.
Good luck in life?
Abscissa @ Dec 4th 2007 4:12PM
Let's recap: There's one specific woman he hates, therefore he's a misogynist?
WiNG @ Dec 4th 2007 4:26PM
so you're telling me if he used a racial slur against her, that you could excuse it by just saying "no, he only hates this one black person"?
Please.
Grant @ Dec 4th 2007 4:45PM
i hate people that fall victim to their own stereotype, setting back any sort of progress their race has made in the last 50 years or so, and i will call them whatever racial slur applies to that stereotype, as long as it applies.
Does that make me racist?
You can certainly use a racial slur to insult someone without being a raging bigot in the same way you can call someone a fat ass without hating all fat people.
WiNG @ Dec 4th 2007 4:47PM
Yes, if you use racial slurs to disparage people, you're not only a racist, you're setting back YOUR race 50 years.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 4th 2007 4:55PM
So if I call a fat guy who cut me off in traffic a "fat ass" does that mean I hate all fat people?
Of course not. But somehow if I use a racial slur in a fit of anger I'm suddenly a racist?
Just one more double standard in the PC war we're currently embroiled in.
WiNG @ Dec 4th 2007 5:51PM
It has nothing to do with a PC war.
If you call someone a fatass, it means that, on some level, you consider fat to be a negative attribute, and that you are trying to insult the other person with this insinuation.
If you call someone a racial slur, it means the same thing, except replace "fat" with "black" or "hispanic" or "white" or "any race", depending on the slur used.
Jake @ Dec 4th 2007 6:02PM
Sensitive people hurt my feelings.
LaughingTarget @ Dec 4th 2007 6:37PM
I'm trying to wrap my head around how "woman" is a race...
Gbogdan @ Dec 5th 2007 4:37AM
I like how WiNG has now managed to turn 2 comments on this page into a race thing even though the initial comment had nothing to do with race.
Ted @ Dec 5th 2007 9:35AM
Wing, the word 'bitch' is an insult specifically addressing females but that doesn't mean that it's insulting womankind. If a woman calls someone a bitch, you wouldn't call her mysogenistic.
There are male-specific insults as well... e.g. He's a ****-head ...
Some words change according to gender, get over it. It's the same in many other languages.
No words change according to race, racist insults target the whole race.
animeman_59 @ Dec 5th 2007 10:05AM
I'll just say it right now
Wing is a friggin' idiot who needs to be knocked off his high-horse.
Making base assumptions is something that he seems to preach against but does exactly that within the same comment block.
Good luck in life looking like an uppity asshole Wing.

You're giving too much credit to parents. Seriously, some people just aren't that bright or in-the-know when it comes to buying video games. Kudos for being optimistic.
