If you're old enough to remember Sweet Tooth and the rest of the upwardly mobile monsters he associated with (or just like making cars explode) this new offering seems to be a pretty solid deal, jam-packed with new levels, updated graphics and a bevy of bonus features. As a coming-out party for David Jaffe's Eat Sleep Play, this "everything old is new again" approach seems like a good choice. It's one he explained further today on Sony's official blog where he wrote that working on a new Twisted Metal game was "like coming home." We know exactly what you mean, Dave. We know exactly what you mean.

Except its basically Twisted Metal 2 which sucked balls. Now when are we gonna see the sequal to Twisted Metal BLACK?

This really does bring up memories. This game is like Mario Kart after it 10 years in prison.

Hopefully it'll have a big, exciting sticker on the front that reads "NOT PLAYABLE ON THE CRIPPLE-TASTIC 40 GIG PS3."
I do wish this series would come to the Xbox, though. 2 and Black were excellent calssics through and through. Thank god the series was successfully taken back from those bastards at 989 Studios. Remember all their delightfully unfun, crappy games? They're not still around, are they? Did they get swallowed up by their own mediocrity?

They were 989 sports, but the 989 brand was so degraded that I believe they just reabsorbed into SCEA in general.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Never really cared for these games myself, they're OK but thats about the most positive thing I can say about them. Of course, I was never a Mario Kart freak to begin with, maybe thats the problem.

Oh I agree, but I was just saying Kart racing in general isn't my thing. I prefer my vehicular death matches in larger vehicles, I guess ;)

2 and Black were the best of the series by far. The crap from 989 Studios was abysmal. *shudders*
I hope they have a racing mode or something along the lines of Rampage, but with cars.

All you need is Twisted Metal 2. You don't need Black. You don't need David Jaffe. And you don't need to "Control Sweet Tooth". Yikes.

No, you definitely need Black. If only for my favorite bit where you get to shoot the giant ferris wheel free of its restraints and send it rolling happily through the crapped-out town.
Really, though, TM Black is one of those PS2 games that made me happy to own that system. As I said in my other post, it'd be great if the series ever made its way onto the Box, as "Full Auto" was but a whimpering, sour fart compared to either TM 2 or Black.

I wanted to like Black. I really did. Especially after all the BS between that and 2. It just wasn't meant to be.

yeah, I remember that lame Cool Boarders series of 989's that was thankfully trounced by the time the PS2 and SSX arrived. 989 games always felt unfinished at best and migraine-inducing at worst. What they did to Twisted Metal 3 was uncalled for, but what they did to Twisted Metal 4 was a goddamn sin, kids.

Actually Cool Boarders 2 was a pretty rad game back in the day. I spent many hours playing that, it was really fucking challenging. Especially the one mode, I forget what it was called, but you had to keep on performing tricks that came up on the bottom of the screen. I don't think I ever beat that.
The 989 studio Cool Boarders were awful though.

This coming from a Wii fan? Aren't you supposed to the champion of "it's all about the gameplay" and "graphics don't matter"? Oh wait, you got a major hate on for anything with the word Sony in it - so now your statement makes sense.
And before the Wii crowd tries a pile-on, I have one and I quite enjoy it. Graphics will keep me entertained for about 10 minutes, gameplay will keep me coming back for hours.

This is a reason to dig out my old PS2 or even buy the new one that's coming out. So glad I don't have to buy a PS3 to enjoy this.
BTW, Twisted Metal was great. TM2 was unbelievable fun. The best game on the PSone in my opinion. Twisted Metal Black and Head On were both great as well, but nothing compared to Twisted Metal 2.
I'm not sure I like the voice on that preview clip though. It's not going to stop me from getting this on day one though!
