Xbox Video Marketplace in Europe, Canada Dec. 11
Like a thunderbolt hurled from Mt. Olympus, "Xbox Live Marketplace Video Store" (aka Video Marketplace) clashes onto Canadian and select European servers next Tuesday, December 11th. As promised, Microsoft will deliver its digital movie rental service (TV content is on the back burner for new territories) before the winter solstice, bringing endearing classics like Demolition Man, Lethal Weapon 4 and Analyze This into the homes of millions of Xbox Live users.
As foretold, Video Marketplace's initial European expansion will be limited to the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Germany. Films will be available to rent in both standard definition and high definition for 250 and 380 MS Points, respectively. While that may sound like a bargain to Americans used to the 320/480 points tag, the European pricing has simply been adjusted to reflect the strength of the Euro (1 Euro is now worth nearly $1.50). Usage restrictions will be identical to those found in the US, and video rentals will expire within 24 hours of first usage or 14 days after download.

Next Tuesday will be a night of MADNESS, guaranteed.
Donald @ Dec 4th 2007 1:09PM
More like a night of SPARTAAAAAAAAAA, amirite?
Wilson @ Dec 4th 2007 1:24PM
Should we reserve in Hell? it's gonna be crowded :S
StrangeBum @ Dec 4th 2007 1:59PM
@Wilson
If I was in Europe or Canada I would be willing to fight in the shade to get the best seats possible.
Mainman @ Dec 4th 2007 5:19PM
Darn it; even one Hi-Def rental is more than my points can afford.
Damn prices. My 300 MS points will just have to stand against them.
Batzarro @ Dec 4th 2007 1:15PM
What? No Space Jam?
Gangsta Smurf @ Dec 4th 2007 1:21PM
Not even Blockbuster.com wants those movies. What a rip.
StrangeBum @ Dec 4th 2007 2:01PM
Eyes Wide Shut is a great movie. Hell, anything that Kubrick has made is a great movie.
But other than that, maybe along with 300 and the Matrix movies, the selection is rather poor.
x silence x @ Dec 4th 2007 1:22PM
Ya, that selection is pretty sad...
but at least it's not just a bunch of Degrassi episodes
Wickedneoq @ Dec 4th 2007 1:44PM
Uh, no Space Jam because Warner signed a deal with Gaia Online, you can view that movie and The Matrix (not all of the trilogy) for free using their Flash player. Crazy huh?
JJ Rooster @ Dec 4th 2007 1:29PM
OMG FINALLY! Divx and a proper Marketplace if I want to buy something? WHOOO!
JJ Rooster @ Dec 4th 2007 1:43PM
wait a minute, will movies cost more points for us, since we are totally getting shafted on the points-to-dollar ratio? Grrr... games cost $59.99 here now, so downloads better be equal value!
DemonGSides @ Dec 4th 2007 2:17PM
Games are 60 dollars everywhere, buddy.
S-LAH-ziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 4th 2007 2:30PM
Actually they are 65 euros in Holland which is almost 100$...
Rob @ Dec 4th 2007 2:58PM
And RRP in UK for PS3 and 360 is £50, which is hovering round the $100 mark.
JJ Rooster @ Dec 5th 2007 9:15AM
New games used to be $69 a couple months ago in Canada. Now we're equal to the US, although DVD prices are still typically $10 more a disc, but I now buy from Amazon.com

Send a maniac to catch a maniac.
S-LAH-ziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 4th 2007 2:24PM
No Netherlands? Aff!
Jerk Face @ Dec 4th 2007 3:17PM
Clash of the Titans is mother fucking awesome, and anyone who says otherwise is a thief and a liar.
BIGGEN @ Dec 4th 2007 3:26PM
i'll second that
wait in the car @ Dec 4th 2007 3:18PM
Clash of the Titans FTW!!
BIGGEN @ Dec 4th 2007 3:28PM
i'll second that one too. did you all know they are remaking it? slated for 2010 (a bit far away) and no cast, director, or anything as of yet. gerard butler as perseus CHA CHING!!!!!
wait in the car @ Dec 4th 2007 7:12PM
I did actually hear about that a couple months ago. Definitely worries me. A lot of potential in the right hands though. Though, there was something about the claymation that made the Kraken and Calibos ultra creepy...
Sky Shark @ Dec 4th 2007 3:38PM
Looks like you guys got a okay line up 300, the matrix triligy, a couple of Hary Potter movies etc. Pretty varied. But oh of course when this hits a large amount of people won't be happy with that instead they'll have to call shafted agian and that its a rip off even though priced it so that they pay the same as much as well do, not more. Gotta love how you finally give people something they've been complaining about for a year now and then they turn around and pretty much say 'Oh, this isn't good enough, you guys screwed us over'.
Clack @ Dec 4th 2007 5:42PM
I thought that was Old Grandma Hardcore all done up for a second.
mike @ Dec 4th 2007 5:43PM
As a canadian, I gotta ask why my fellow countryman are so interested in this video marketplace? You can just visit www.insertorrentsitehere.com and download all your favorite movies in both SD and HD for free. And with the new divx update, they should all work right on your 360. And this way, you get to keep the content forever, not 24 hours.
Sky Shark @ Dec 4th 2007 6:06PM
Ummm, maybe people like to follow something called MORALS and the LAW, Last time I checked in most nations stealing movies is breaking the law. Even if they didn't care if it was legal or not your gonna get faster download times on XBL then some torret site. So yeah stop trying to encourage piracy here please.
Wilhelm @ Dec 5th 2007 10:48PM
You can get some pretty damn fast download speeds on torrents actually... or so I've heard.
But yeah, downloading movies is illegal pretty much everywhere. Music on the otherhand...
mike @ Dec 6th 2007 1:00AM
actually torrents sites are much faster then xbl. When I download torrents, I max out my connection as I can see in my application (use private trackers, not crappy public). While xbl downloads are fast for me it seems, their not as fast as torrents. xb downloads dont go any faster then 800k/sec for me at least.
As for morals? No I dont feel morally bad about it because despite that worldwide piracy is rampant, all the celebrities, studios and business is still filled with rich people. Imagine their was no pircay, they would be even richer lol. As for legallity, well I would hardly consider it illegal. In order for there to be a law, it needs to be enforced. If its mearly a law written on paper and not enforced (like downloading is) then you cant really call it illegal. Its like the government is hoping you will obey an honor system with their laws with no intent on enforcing them lol. No1 in my country (canada) has been arrest yet I believe (for simply downloading that is, the people who have been arrested are those who download and sell, or run servers and whatnot)
chimp o death @ Dec 4th 2007 7:38PM
It seems Canada may be getting a few more (and different ) films:

Oscar @ Dec 5th 2007 5:31AM
What happens if your xbox 360 is kind of screwed because you bought it in England but brought it to Australia and have set the personal location to Australia yet it still refuses to have anything other than the UK as the billing address and makes you pay for MS Points in pounds. Does that mean I get the video marketplace too?
Tony Walters @ Jul 19th 2008 6:39AM
