do games come out for the PS3 that don't require patches? I stopped playing games on windows box so I wouldn't have to deal with this crap.

Plenty of games have dropped that don't need patches. But you'd ignore that. In fact, I'd say the patching is much less on PS3. But it's still an unfortunate side effect of the era of gaming we're in.

Hey, it beats the alternative. You know, where Harmonix and EA intentionally mislead consumers on the PS3 version and could never fix the issue, doling out a "fuck off, more controllers ship Feb 4th...." instead.

Actually, games have always been released with bugs. Sometimes, devs would issue replacement disks with a fix. However, most times the gamer was just S.O.L. Fixing things with a downloadable patch is much better in my opinion.

Victor's brother, Future Man, once showed me an equation that he came up with that determines the end of the world. True story!

I met Futureman breifly at a show about four years ago. I asked him where he drew inspiration or something cliche like that. He told me all about this interesting chair he saw at a museum... Talking to him is like reading the Doors to Perception.

Victa FTW! Check out this awesome instrumental from a Gov't Mule DVD with Victor and Bernie Worrel sitting in, especially at the 6 minute mark when Victor solos:

I'll go one further: Sony should have descended from their tower and offered a common guitar controller API to avoid this mess in the first place.

Yeah, Sony should have exercised tyrannical control over developers. That way GHIII, IV, V, VI, VII Rotting Aerith Edition, and VIII all bypass PS3. Goooooooooood thinking.

*wonders how many people remember the mass exodus from NES to Genesis was because developers were tired of the Nintendo Iron Grip*

I would love to chime in here and say that Sony has in fact made available a common controller API, with Bluetooth as the transport method. The guitar controllers are no different than the six-axis being that have common buttons and motion sensing. The difference is that Activision/Neversoft chose to not use Bluetooth and implement their own 2.4 GHz dongle, possibly in an attempt to make them cheaper. All I know is that I have serious issues in my game room with Bluetooth headsets and controllers, 802.11g, GH3 2.4 GHz controllers, and my 2.4 GHz phone are wrecking havoc on the latency of GH3.

I think they went with their own band because bluetooth wasn't a fast enough protocol for the rhythm genre.

If only they'd have a timeframe of when we can expect this to happen. By the end of 2007? *crosses fingers*

"the first time that four-player action will be feasible."

More importantly, people who purchased the stand alone copy will be able to experience any part of the game for the first time.

This post on the Rock Band forums has been up since yesterday - unfortunately, no action on the "download the PS3 patch" situation yet... I just played a quick two songs and no request for a download from Rock Band.

I see the forum topic has been closed until further information can be given. I think they might have jumped the gun in announcing that before it was available; just hit us with the update and THEN tell us.

Sorry, that was actually not meant to be a 'reply' to Wonderflex, but rather just a comment. I'm not really sure how I managed that one.

Why is nobody asking when Activision will get off their proverbial asses and release a patch (on 360 please) to let me use my Rock Band guitar with Guitar Hero III? I don't like owning more than 2 of the plastic things, so why shouldn't I be able to use both peripherals with both games? Harmonix is stepping up. Why shouldn't Activision and Neversoft? What is this double standard? I enjoy a lot of the songs on GHIII, but I also enjoy the band experience of Rock Band. Is it too much to ask to be able to play both with the same plastic controllers? Maybe. Where's the outcry?
