The other system is $399 with a blu-ray player. The 360 should be $399 including the hd-dvd player. Come on microsoft, you can win. Just make Live Free and make the price on par with the other system.

Well, as far as live goes... you get what you pay for!

I already bought the player and a ton of HD DVD's, but that price looks awesome! That's hard to pass up for someone who hasn't jumped on board yet.

They are almost meeting that price point, they COULD bundle the arcade and the hd dvd player for a little over $400. If they ever integrate the HD player and the xbox I'm on board.

I really want one of these for my 100' HD projector but I only rent movies from Blockbuster, it is no reason to buy any dvd any more with their online service. They don't support HD-DVD only BlueRay so until HD-DVD is the sole winner I wont be picking this up. But I do love my 360 and will not buy a PS3

@ pkilla Blockbuster does offer HD DVD's online. You have to click on "Collections" and then scroll down to HD DVD. That's how I get my HD DVD fix.

Oh man, transformers for $129 would be so worth it.

@2 - I think the PSN will be charging membership costs eventually, when they have enough of a user base. They need to for server costs. It just makes business sense.

It depends on your tv! If you are running off a 19" CRT from 1989 then I would suggest you don't buy this add-on. I have a 57" 1080p hi def tv, and I think it looks amazing. So I would have to say it depends on what you are working with.

If you do have the setup to handle hi def, then I would recommend it. I really love the way the hd movies look and I can definitely see and HEAR the difference.

If this drop hits Europe/UK I'll be all over it in the new year, i wont be the hugest of HD-DVD collectors but if its anywhere near the £70-80 (GBP) mark then you cant say no to a HD drive at that price...

Now then, get the 120gb HDD down to a decent price as well and 360 owners will be laughing...

@Larry "and HEAR the difference."

The sound will be basically the same as DVD because the HD DVD add on only support lossy audio. Sucks, I know, I had to get myself a Toshiba to support uncompressed PCM and Dolby TrueHD.

I sent in my form in mid-August. I got a card from them a couple of weeks ago saying there was a delay; I think they were planning to ship in late December or something like that.

For those of us that couldn't wait to pick up the HD DVD player when the cost was higher should still go pick this up just to get the five free movies. Once you get it home, take it to Wal Mart, of course WITHOUT receipt, and tell them you want to return it to them because it was a gift and you don't want it. You will now receive a gift card for Wal Mart for $180.00. That's 3 new AWESOME 360 games, and 5 HD DVD's for the price of $130.00. Just an idea, folks. Highly recommend voting this one up so everyone can get this tip, please!

While I won't say I'm against doing such things as Walmart is an evil corporation this is "return fraud" and illegal. I wouldn't post such things in print, you can say them outloud but don't put it in print, can be submitted as evidence against you my friend if someone comes by lawsuit happy.

i bought the hd-dvd last saturday for 180 dollars, at best buy. after reading this today, i immediately printed the image of the toys 'r us price. funny enough, it wouldn't display the price when i printed directly from the website...i had to print screen.

i went to best buy, showed the woman my reciept as well as the screen grab, and got my 56 dollar difference, which i then proceeded to use to buy children of men and the departed used for cheap.
