Connect360 3.2 + Xbox 360 = DivX / Xvid streaming for Macs
Just two days after the Xbox 360 Fall Update added DivX and Xvid support, Connect360 – the app that shares your Mac's music, photos, and videos with your 360 – has been updated to support the new codecs. We imagine the update wasn't that difficult, since simply changing a video's file extension from .avi to .wmv tricked the app into streaming our totally legitimate collection of videos, but we're happy for the official fix. $20 buys you the app, but the upgrade to 3.2 is free for existing users. Wanna try it out? Download the demo. Dare we say, it actually works better than the official Windows solution? We dare!

WTangoFoxtrot @ Dec 6th 2007 2:38PM
TVersity FTW !
Brandon @ Dec 6th 2007 2:52PM
I didn't think the OS X version was done yet?
riggs @ Dec 6th 2007 3:11PM
TVersity doesnt work with my external hard drive though :(
leland @ Dec 6th 2007 4:32PM
Works great with my external HD. Non-transcoded xvid look booootyful.
riggs @ Dec 7th 2007 12:13PM
help me leland!!
Ash @ Dec 6th 2007 2:04PM
My bad. Didn't catch the "for Mac" part.
Markster @ Dec 6th 2007 2:09PM
Anyone know the best solution for Linux?
deaftly @ Dec 6th 2007 2:16PM
TVersity with wine would prob do the trick
Phil Nelson @ Dec 6th 2007 2:25PM
Actually, the release they just brought out is super crash happy for me and everyone I know. Movies play fine, music crashes the app instantly.
Martin @ Dec 6th 2007 2:26PM
Are you running OS X 10.5.1 Lepper'd? That was my issue. I'm back to Tiger and things are A-OK!
harma41 @ Dec 6th 2007 2:41PM
It has also been crash happy for me too, and I am using 10.4.11. I emailed nullriver my crash log, and am hoping for a fix in a day or two.
I watched parts of four divx movies just fine, and then went to see if music and pictures were working. It was all gone. Then I went to my computer and noticed the whole application crashed.
Darayz @ Dec 6th 2007 3:32PM
@ harma41
same thing happened to me. I can stream my movies and pictures just fine, but the app crashes when I try to play music. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it still sucks that a feature in the program doesn't work. But I'm sure there'll be a fix soon
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Dec 6th 2007 2:20PM
Anyone who uses TVersity. Do you have trouble viewing Youtube and other internet videos? I have the latest release of TVerstiy, but I cant get it to work.
Ash @ Dec 6th 2007 2:21PM
@monkey
Those online videos dont really work all that well.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
Brad @ Dec 6th 2007 2:23PM
I downloaded 3.2 last evening, best 20 bucks I've spent in a while. Works perfectly no problems. Suddenly my Xbox just doubled its value to me. Sweet.
Xvalue @ Dec 6th 2007 2:23PM
I must say that this was the best $20 ive spent on software in a long time. Whenever there is a dash update, these guys step up and upgrade their product.
A+
Deprincer @ Dec 7th 2007 7:56PM
ohhh wowwwww!!! this is freakin' awesome. i think i might just pay the $20 for them making the damn prog.
Martin @ Dec 6th 2007 2:28PM
This is a great app! Very easy to use and seamless with the Xbox 360. I never had issues using a PC to stream to the device, so I can't say this is better, but it works great for Mac owners.
That being said, with the addition of being able to view movies, music, photos, etc from a USB drive, I don't stream anything anymore.
StrangeBum @ Dec 6th 2007 2:32PM
Yay! This is fabulous news!!
I don't have a Mac. But still, this is new and exciting!
drdre74 @ Dec 6th 2007 2:51PM
Good I'll have to update tonight when I get home. The app works pretty good.
Norm @ Dec 6th 2007 2:42PM
I have this and it works great.
Raffi @ Dec 6th 2007 7:19PM
Can anyone confirm if after the update the app seems to extend beyond the size limits of the system preferences window? The white boxes seem to just go off the edge..
Robert @ Dec 6th 2007 8:21PM
Yep! 3.21 fixed the music crashing on my side.
FR3SH JIV3 @ Dec 6th 2007 9:13PM
Raffi- Mine does this as well, even after the 3.21 update today. Oh well, still works.
Raffi @ Dec 6th 2007 9:42PM
Thanks for the reply FR3SH JIV3. Funny, I just saw you on a game of Call of Duty 4 today.
Token White Guy @ Dec 6th 2007 2:53PM
Works like a charm.
Ghostm @ Dec 6th 2007 3:04PM
Though I'm not a 360 user but I am a hardcore Mac user. This is a pretty damn cool feature added to the Xbox 360.
Sony definitely needs to step up their game. 360 is running a train on PS3's ass at this point!
Nate @ Dec 6th 2007 5:47PM
PS3 had streaming from Macs, Windows, Linux, including DivX for months and months now. Who's stepping up to who?
Gregory Harbin @ Dec 6th 2007 3:06PM
This app is fantastic. I can stream video from my Mac upstairs to my TV downstairs, all over the wireless network. Well worth the measly reg fee.
Darayz @ Dec 6th 2007 3:14PM
I just bought the app and I'm liking it so far except for 1 thing. Whenever I try to play songs from itunes, the app crashes. But everything else works well including streaming movies and pictures. The music is not a deal breaker but it still sucks that it keeps crashing.
TX2Step @ Dec 6th 2007 3:21PM
Connect360 is probably the best thing to use for your Xbox 360 along with the Mac. As much as Macs cost, it shouldn't be a problem donating $20 for this app.
Jeff @ Dec 6th 2007 3:47PM
Has to work better than the PC support. I currently use Transcode360 via MCE, but it does have some lag issues and occasionally doesn't like a particular divx file - and doesn't do h264 etc. Tried WMP11 and Zune software to the 360 after the update - WMP11 doesn't find/stream .mp4 files (all my video podcasts), but does play all the divx stuff. Zune won't play back divx or include it in its library, does work with .mp4, but won't share what it deems podcasts!!!!! What a joke - time to fire up the mac mini with Connect360!
DjFIL @ Dec 6th 2007 4:01PM
yay! really happy to see the update, only 2 days after the dashboard update... not too bad. and yeah, it works like a charm... wish it'd display the folders i have in my movies folder... but otherwise it's perfect. :)
AirIntake @ Dec 6th 2007 4:56PM
For $20 I'd rather just throw what I wanted to watch on my USB key and plug it directly in to the 360, now that there's no need to transcode. Wait.....can't the 360 just access a Mac network drive drive directly, without the need for this media center streaming crap? Sorry, I don't own a Mac so I'm not sure what's possible.
harma41 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:12PM
The glitches should be temporary. Connect360 3.0 came out when they added video streaming, and they released 3.1 in less than a week when the bugs we're resolved. Once we get 3.3, it should be solid until the next Dash update.
harma41 @ Dec 6th 2007 6:38PM
Looks like the software has been incremented to 3.21 now on their download site. I hope this squashes the crashing bug. The new preference pane is now version is 3.21 w/ a 2008 copyright.
mattydread @ Dec 7th 2007 12:16AM
Is Xvid the universal format for all video yet?
harma41 @ Dec 7th 2007 12:45PM
My Pref pane still gets cut off on the right hand side. Although on my 10.5 machine at work, it looked completely normal. I don't go into the pref pane all that often, but it is still annoying that it cannot re-size correctly.
