Be honest now. It's not like you have anything better to do than to stare at a series of polygonal environments and pretend you're dashing through them, mowing down multicolored cyborgs and kidnapping defenseless flags. In the gallery below you'll find images depicting the three environments comprising Halo 3's "Heroic Map Pack," which arrives on the Xbox Live Marketplace on Dec. 11th. It'll set you back 800 MS Points ($10) unless you're the patient and/or apathetic type, in which case it'll cost you nothing early next year. But then, we already lost the apathetic readers at the headline.
If you've made it this far (kudos to you for putting up with an unreasonable amount of filler nonsense), you'll want to be reminded about those three new maps again: "Rat's Nest," an indoor area rife with vehicles! "Standoff," a valley overshadowed by a large melancholy dish who's always staring off into space! "Foundry," a level you get to strategically clutter up (sometimes with soccer balls) in Forge! The constant use of exclamation marks is unnecessary and annoying!

In my opinion, rTwelve, I think that they meant to include the content into the game originally, but thanks to deadlines and gamer frenzy, they have to launch games with bugs and missing content.
After launch, they can allow themselves to patch bugs.
And after launch, they can allow themselves to patch games with extra content... until OH NOES, paying for DLC on XboxLive is standard, right? Because all members are supposedly cashcows?
I absolutely hate where the industry is going. Some day, people are going to be charged 10 dollars to download bug-fixing patches.

On the Bungie podcast they specifically said none of the maps were done at launch, they just had some sketches and ideas. Also, the Bungie guys didn't price the content, Microsoft did, and they didn't sound too particularly pleased with the price either.

"Non-HD" games?
You know, when I play H3 on my Samsung 720p LCD HDTV, the picture looks incredible. However when I plug it into my old RCA CRT SDTV it looks markedly worse. High Definition doesn't start at 720p...
480i = SD
480p = ED
Anything greater than that = HD
Furthermore resolution is only PART of the equation for a good picture. You can play 8 year old PC games at ultra high resolutions and they still look like crap. Lighting, shading, textures and mapping are just as crucial and in some cases even more important.
Lastly, Halo 3 was not, is not and won't be the only game to sacrifice some lines of resolution for the sake of the other aformentioned components. Games on both the 360 AND PS3 have done this, including CoD4.
Get over it.

Hhhhm... Halo 3 Post? We have the "don't play Halo" and "i'm not paying $10" posts. All we need is someone to say CoD4 is "so much better" and that will complete things. The more something is hyped (Halo 3), the more people think it's cool (and their right) to blacklash it.
It's your right not to pay the $10 out of principle. Wait until they are free. But to those who actively still play Halo (100,000+ were online last night), i'm sure spending the equivalent of a fast food meal for hours of entertainment won't be a problem. And you'll be able to play against others with these new maps right away thanks to a newly added playlist.
I fully support those who want to wait - it's your right as a consumer. It all comes down to supply and demand. If enough people pay the $10, then it's WORTH the $10. But bitch all you want, but it's simple economics.
