Jaffe wouldn't mind a little involvement with God of War III
David Jaffe, creator of the original God of War, says he would love to be involved somehow with God of War III, even though he's no longer with Sony. He notes that if he could figure out how to freeze time and still make it home for dinner with the family -- and if Sony would let him work on the project -- he'd do it. Jaffe says that he had a "master plan" for the God of War story when he was still with Sony and that the Santa Monica team has his notes -- but whether they want to follow them is their choice. That's just one small part of a large interview done by GameDaily BIZ with Jaffe. In the full interview, he discusses his new studio Eat, Sleep, Play and what it's like focusing on medium-sized titles. There's a pretty frank discussion about how he just couldn't get into BioShock -- he blames being too focused on the "nuts and bolts of play mechanics." There's a lot more straightforward Jaffe talk too, but honestly, did you expect anything less?

this guy is such a cod knocker.
FidliousWong @ Dec 6th 2007 4:06PM
Looks like he's lost some weight. Good for him. Of course he'd have more time to exercise now that he's away from the uber projects.
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 6th 2007 4:08PM
Maybe he bought WiiFit.
FidliousWong @ Dec 6th 2007 4:19PM
Why I'm SURE that's the answer....

Bah, everytime this guy opens his mouth I lose more respect for him. Guess it's sweet justice that he's stuck working on a PS2 PORT OF A PSP GAME.
In other news: Way to support your flagship console Sony.
Burritoclock @ Dec 6th 2007 4:47PM
This guy is a very large vagina. I can't even stand his stupid face.
Khash @ Dec 6th 2007 4:44PM
I love this guy. All you haters can go screw yourselves.
jsn @ Dec 6th 2007 4:52PM
technically that makes you a bigger twat than he is!
carg0 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:16PM
he's an arrogant little prick who, when you listen to him, speaks as though he's carrying the weight of the industry on his shoulders. what the hell has he done? and now that he doesn't have Sony's budget to fall back on anymore, he's practically grovelling to come back.
typical.
FidliousWong @ Dec 6th 2007 5:40PM
Hmmm... maybe I'm completely off base but somehow a man who has said these things about himself and his games...
-B level, at best, game designer
-Nervous eater with weight problems
-God of War was a string of refining failures until it became a game
-Twisted Metal does nothing new besides being fun
-Mixing raw emotion with compelling gameplay is a skill that's far beyond him (in regards to the cancellation of Heartland)
-Loud, brash, and about as refined as your average Hell's Angel
-Lacks the patience and attitude to handle the larger games anymore
... doesn't come off as arrogant to me. But I keep forgetting, if you can critique other peoples work, that means you as a designer are obviously saying you are better. Actually no. It's just the typical "he thinks he's god" opinion people assume when finding his isolated quotes instead of doing things like following his blog the quotes were taken from.
Of most developers, he's in the top three most down to earth guys. Kevin Levine, Hideo Kojima, and David Jaffe. But of the three, only Jaffe would be the kind of guy you could meet at a sports bar and, over a few games of pool, have a three hour discussion on game design philosophies.
Predatorian234 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:43PM
I agree 100% FidliousWong. Especially the bit about meeting him in a sports bar.
Kevin @ Dec 6th 2007 5:23PM
Jaffe would want to shut the fu... hell up
Predatorian234 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:40PM
????
Whats the beef with this guy? Some of you claim that he acts like he holds the industry on his shoulders? How the hell did you get that idea?
I enjoyed reading the article. Guy seems to be pretty cool.
Some of you on here have the maturity level of a 10 year old...granted most of you probably are 10.
Akamaru @ Dec 6th 2007 5:49PM
It's just the usual Sony bashing. I expect nothing less from the mouthbreather Joystiq crowd.
Predatorian234 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:51PM
Yeah, I've noticed that about Joystiq.
Seems like Joystiq is full of immature fanboys. One of the main reasons why I don't normally post comments on here.
FidliousWong @ Dec 6th 2007 5:58PM
They may be immature fanboys, but at least they write at the college level.

Dear Akamaru,
We missed you at the last meeting. We'll make sure to have one of the higher functionings walk you over next time. You missed a great coloring activity, it was a drawing of a pot calling its kettle friend "black".
Signed,
The Typical Mouthbreather Crowd
Predatorian234 @ Dec 6th 2007 6:05PM
who would have ever thought that "cod knocker" would be considered college level writing...
Hell, I'm going back to college. I'll pass with my eyes closed.
honkyjesusownsu @ Dec 6th 2007 6:50PM
He can't appreciate the narrative of BioShock or Half-Life 2?
Perhaps because those games had stories?
face-angel
I respect his work but he tends to get drunk and talk like a deutsche.
BioShock - Game of This Gen So Far...
Vincent @ Dec 6th 2007 11:30PM
Okay no one has anything useful to say here. Just so you all know, I played the "new" demo a month and a half ago. The "premium item" is a T-Shirt with the "T" logo in green, and a silhouette of Turok himself inside the big "T" I didn't open the shirt from it's vacuum-packed state.. It's with all my other promo shirts like Tenchu, Mario Strikers, Galaxy, etc.. But yeah.. that's basically all it is. The demo is actually really fun.. The game is just as ridiculous as any previous Turok game, just with less explosions. Turok is nigh invincible, as his health regenerates insanely fast, and he can kill *anything* with the knife. From a few different angles, too. One of them, he jump up onto the dino's back, slits its throat, then jumps off and kicks it to the ground.. Oh and you don't only hunt dino's either.. you kill people, too. But the best part is you can trick dino's into attacking the other people, or either other dino's, with the flare gun that's for some reason attached to your shotgun... Oh, and yes, you get exploding arrows for the bow. XD
honkyjesusownsu @ Dec 7th 2007 12:31AM
Vincent you are a deutsche and a half.
I don't even know what you are talking about. Wii shit?
Save that for the last gen boards, sir.
BananaBoat @ Dec 7th 2007 10:57AM
He's right, Bioshock is so/so
/gets to the choppa/
