Smash Bros. Brawl not expected in Europe until Q3 '08

Cross-over cartoon violence spectacular, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, was sadly omitted from said list, prompting Videogamer.com to politely ask Nintendo when Europe could expect its arrival. "If the game is not listed on the schedule up until the end of Q2 it is currently not due out until after that time," came the bloodcurdling answer. That places Super Smash Bros. Brawl in June at earliest, roughly four months after the game's American release in February. We hope this is nothing more than a precaution (would another delay surprise anybody?), as we simply cannot comprehend this level of cruelty being inflicted upon Europe intentionally -- and we watch the Royal Variety Performance every year.

as long as i dont have to wait for it in the states. sorry europe.
gonk @ Dec 6th 2007 11:05AM
yeah, about that...
don't count on its current release date, one of the testers told me
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Dec 6th 2007 11:25AM
I do get the feeling from this that Europe is simply the first delay announced. Which is fine by me. I wouldn't have been able to buy it in Feb anyway.
JJ Rooster @ Dec 6th 2007 11:42AM
Delaystation Wii ?
BPM - The Revenge @ Dec 6th 2007 1:21PM
To be honest, Gonk, I don't trust you.
Nothing personal, it's just the nature of the Internet: anyone can say anything without any proof.
I could say I know one of the developers for Street Fighter IV, for example. Or that I went back in time and was the one who shot JFK.
Proof? What proof? It's the Internet!
Joshua @ Dec 6th 2007 1:33PM
You don't have to take what he said as proof or not, the fact that this game has been delayed in Europe (even though it never had a firm release date there, Q3 is still a delay to me) definitely indicated that it may be delayed elsewhere.
As Ludwig mentioned, Europe has been getting high-profile Wii games only shortly after the rest of the world, so why should Brawl be any different.
And remember, this IS Nintendo we're talking about -- Release dates mean nothing to them, so I'd say don't get too attached to February 10.
BPM - The Revenge @ Dec 6th 2007 2:05PM
We don't know if Brawl's been delayed for Europe... We never even had a solid release day for it in Europe to begin with!
Plus, Europe normally gets games later than America, so this isn't a big surprise, anyways.
Admiral_Mike @ Dec 6th 2007 11:04AM
Fuck :(
Just when I was planning a campus tournament too.

Nintendo carries a grudge against europe because the Master System and Game Gear were actually popular here during nintendo's reign of terror.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 6th 2007 11:23AM
"...during nintendo's reign of terror."
Also known as the first golden age of video games.
ZenGaijin @ Dec 6th 2007 11:31AM
Actually that was the second golden age of videogames. This Wiiplosion could be called the third.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 6th 2007 1:05PM
Would you call the atari era the first, then? I see that more of a birth than a golden age. But then, I wasn't alive for it, so...
And truthfully, I'd probably call the PS2 the second golden age, as much as I hate to, with the wii ushering in the 3rd.
Displace by 1 position since you consider the 1st golden age pre-nintendo.
dan stabbingworth @ Dec 6th 2007 1:20PM
The Wii is not a golden age of gaming. Not yet, anyway.
What do you think made the NES/SNES and PS2 eras so great? Massive amounts of awesome games. Only the DS can make a similar claim, and even that is dubious.
BPM - The Revenge @ Dec 6th 2007 5:03PM
I wouldn't doubt the DS's greatness. I've got 43 DS games right now, with only one regretful purchase (Retro Atari Classics... But it was only $10).
The Wii? No. Not yet, at least. It has a few good titles (I've eight so far, and there are still more I want, just that money is a constraint). It's been out for only a year, hardly time for any system to prove it's worth (and DS has been out for three years).
PeacefulOutrage @ Dec 6th 2007 11:09AM
Many Wii owners have been waiting since launch for this game. This delay really sucks!

"It's not the steadfast and ever-lingering sort of hate, but rather that insidious aura which prompts someone to suffocate you with a pillow as soon as you're comfortable enough to share a bed with them."
Are you my ex-girlfriend, Ludwig?
That said, I hope to God there isn't a US delay, also, but I have a bad feeling.
And Europeans...I've said it before, I'll say it again – you guys are just better off importing a Wii from the US if you want games in a timely manner.
...that's ignoring the fact that importing Wii's from anywhere is impossible these days.
theCardinal @ Dec 6th 2007 11:13AM
Tempting. Especially with the dollar being so bad. It probably costs about €50.
S-LAH-ziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 6th 2007 11:30AM
Actually in Holland they are pretty easy to get. They are everywhere... maybe they should reroute some Wii's from here to the US?
And with import taxes it would be pretty expensive~~
ALH @ Dec 6th 2007 12:16PM
hey S LAH -no import tax on anything under £350. A lesson i learnt the hard way when i had to pay £90 for importing over a WACOM :(

First Mario Galaxy getting delayed and now this - Is this because the wii is default to code for?
Just jesting, trying to folow the same logic that is applied whenever any PS3 game gets delayed!
But seriously, I think its a problem with Europe having too many languages - and maybe companies should be allowed to launch the US version, even if its i n American english etc if someone wants the title desperately they can just go ahead and buy it cant they.
CJC @ Dec 6th 2007 11:20AM
I still maintain that Pictochat is the best idea for a stage ever. Warioware could also fill this spot, I suppose.
gonk @ Dec 6th 2007 11:27AM
penis stages ahoy!

DonWii @ Dec 6th 2007 11:23AM

Hell, I expect the NA version to be delayed again, until April.

Can we stop using the "X = confirmed" joke Joystiq?

"THE CAKE IS A LIE" is just two "JOYSTIQ IS TOBIAS" jokes duct-taped together: CONFIRMED!
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Dec 6th 2007 11:28AM
I think all three systems hate Europe. Which is strange, because they are a huge market second only to the US. I suppose the fact that they have to deal with so many languages and legal codes (EU non-withstanding) pisses them off.
And they pass that hate on to you, the loyal customer.
theCardinal @ Dec 6th 2007 11:29AM
It's because the French are here. Theyre ruining it for all of us.
DonWii @ Dec 6th 2007 11:37AM
Agreed
ALH @ Dec 6th 2007 12:10PM
never had any grumbles about the 360 release schedule here, everything gets released within a week or two of you guys getting it. We dont have the video marketplace of course, but thats not a big deal tbh.
danny. @ Dec 6th 2007 12:15PM
I imagine it's irritating to lose money over the word 'spastic'
WiNG @ Dec 6th 2007 12:40PM
The French aren't ruining it. It's Switzerland.
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Dec 6th 2007 12:47PM
I can't believe you guys. I only hate two things: People who are intolerant of other cultures...and the Dutch.
PS If anyone else was confused by the "spastic" reference like me...here's a link: http://www.davis.ca/en/blog/Video-Game-Law/2007/07/19/The-Partys-Over-for-Mario-Party-8-at-least-in-the-UK

Go ahead, mock the French! But they own Vivendi and Ubisoft, so I'd be careful if I were you. ;P
Super G-Man @ Dec 6th 2007 11:37AM
Oh poop.
I've just finished Mario Galaxy, and my 360 has been sent away for repair.
NEED MORE DECENT Wii GAMES.
StrangeBum @ Dec 6th 2007 11:51AM
I'm in the same boat you are. Just sent my 360 away about a week ago. I'm hoping it gets back soon though. I haven't had the chance to even play Mass Effect yet.
Squeek @ Dec 6th 2007 12:36PM
Zack and Wiki
Trauma Center 2
Resident Evil: UC
That should hold you over until Brawl.
S-LAH-ziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 6th 2007 2:02PM
UC is shit, Trauma Center 2 and Zack&Wiki haven't been released in Europe
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Dec 6th 2007 2:19PM
I sent my 360 on Monday.
I finished Galaxy, but I'm going back and doing it with Luigi now.
It would've been nice to have him since the start, but what ever.

Virtua Fighter 2 is available on the virtual console!

AstroZombie @ Dec 6th 2007 11:55AM
This is why Nintendo hates you, Europe. You backed the wrong horse.
StrangeBum @ Dec 6th 2007 11:53AM
I just wish that Nintendo would pull off some major fanservice and work with Square to bringing Geno or Puff from Super Mario RPG into the game. Geno could be like a new Fox styled character and Puff could be like Yoshi or something. I don't know.
