Turok goes dino hunting with pre-order demo for Xbox 360

The demo disc also includes a "premium item" and at this point.... we have no idea what that means. Our short time with Turok at E3 did impress us, so we're looking forward to getting another chance to experience the hunt two months before launch. No word if a PS3 demo will be distributed some other way, but we're just happy that Propaganda and Disney had some sense to release next year instead of dropping Turok like a cow into the raptor pit of this holiday season.

Sorry to sound like a Nintendo fanboy, but if these 360 people ever played a FPS with the Wii remote, they'd never be able to go back to their old controls. After playing Medal Of Honor 2, it just makes dual analog control laughably archaic.
ThornedVenom @ Dec 6th 2007 4:40PM
CAUTION: You are nearing the keyboard/mouse, dual analog and wiimote/nunchuck debate.
Always served hot.
Silent Xenocide @ Dec 6th 2007 4:40PM
Really? Because I was pretty sure that I didn't enjoy using the Wii controls for first person shooters.
TheGuy @ Dec 6th 2007 4:41PM
I could say the same thing about all console controls (even the Wii Remote) and PC controls. PC controls makes all of them feel outdated.
Intentless @ Dec 6th 2007 4:46PM
I have to admit I really enjoyed Prime. But I still prefer the traditional dual analog right now...
dsub @ Dec 6th 2007 4:53PM
Except for the fact that the Wiimote is about as responsive as a drunk hobo in comparison to an analog stick. It's horrid reliance on ancient IR technology kills it.
Go ahead, move your hand back and forth quickly and watch the cursor on the screen try and keep up. It can't cant. I don't see that happening when I move the analog stick on my controller or the mouse on my computer.
Sean D. @ Dec 6th 2007 5:27PM
Do you really think the writer of this article hasn't used a Wii? I would assume that most of the Joystiq contributors have some idea of what they're talking about.
I'll second the preference for the dual analog sticks. My arms got really tired after a very short amount of time while playing Metroid Prime 3- I prefer being able to rest my forarms in my lap while playing. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the waggle (enjoyed RE4 a lot more on the Wii, and can't get enough of that Bowling), but I really don't like it (so far) for fast moving FPSs. Ultimately, I'd prefer a mouse and keyboard, but for playing on the couch, the dual analog sticks do fine.
Jeff @ Dec 6th 2007 5:27PM
Dual analog controls were always laughable. But so is using an inaccurate motion-sensor stick that lacks 1:1 movement.
Tiptup300 @ Dec 6th 2007 8:44PM
Ha! Guys, to finish sarcastic statements on the internet you NEED /sarcasm tags. Some people may actually believe what you say.
Vidikron (FU) @ Dec 6th 2007 9:41PM
I've played tons of PC shooters (UT series for YEARS in clans) and Metroid on the Wii and I still have no problems playing using dual analog controls. I consider myself rather versatile in that regard :-P
TomCo @ Dec 6th 2007 4:49PM
Hands are the best controllers, if any of these people did something with their hands, they'd never be able to go back to their old control methods.
After opening a lot of jars with my hands it just makes foot control seem poor in comparison.
Silent Xenocide @ Dec 6th 2007 4:53PM
Really? Because I was pretty sure I didnt enjoy using my hands for opening jars.
TomCo @ Dec 6th 2007 4:55PM
You just suck at it, I could beat you in multiplay.
Undead Priest @ Dec 6th 2007 5:02PM
It's obvious you've never gotten a Footjob, good sir.
TomCo @ Dec 6th 2007 5:04PM
Is that an offer?
I respectfully decline.

You're pathetic: slaves are next-gen!

It comes with a Turok T-Shirt.
Not sure why they are announcing this now. We got these in at Gamestop in October.
Silent Xenocide @ Dec 6th 2007 4:56PM
I hope this game is more like Turok 1.
JonFitt @ Dec 6th 2007 5:14PM
So is this only available if I pre-order the game?
How do I know if I want to pre-order it if I haven't played the demo?
8dot3 @ Dec 6th 2007 5:17PM
Aren't demos supposed to get you excited to buy the game? How do I know if I even want to pre-order this if I haven't played the demo...
deaftly @ Dec 6th 2007 5:26PM
as much as i loved turok back in the day, this is gonna get 7.5's around the board
Jeff @ Dec 6th 2007 5:31PM
This looks like it has potential. I don't expect it to review much higher than mid-8s at best (on the 7-10 scale most sites use) but I think it'll be a good middle 8. Dinosaurs are always badass, and it's pretty hard to screw up a plot based around killing them-- although Turok has done it several times.
The multiplayer videos look like they are being played by someone who sucks at the game, so it's hard to know how good it'll be. Multiplayer, imho, is a dynamic that a single person can never capture-- you really need to wait until you can see it in action, play it until you're good at it, and then see how much fun you've having.
I just hope the PC port doesn't get screwed up, but lately the quality of PC ports has been great-- since most games are designed for 360, which is an underpowered gaming PC anyway.
nightmare452 @ Dec 6th 2007 6:00PM
This is old news, I got this 6 weeks ago !!!
Jedijoe9 @ Dec 6th 2007 6:09PM
Hopefully, like the GH3 demo, someone will dump it and we can play it off of a DVD...Because I'm sure as hell not pre-ordering it...
Konchu @ Dec 6th 2007 6:38PM
Yeah I thought these were out a while so basically this is a just a publisity thing. "Hey the demo is availible Please reserve it....Please"
MikeG @ Dec 6th 2007 6:38PM
Wondering why it's not just being offered as a demo or a sneak peak type thing (like Blacksite) on Xbox Live. Who cares about the T-Shirt?
nealbailey @ Dec 6th 2007 8:35PM
"if these 360 people ever played a FPS with the Wii remote, they'd never be able to go back to their old controls"
I hate, really hate the wiimote controls as they've been used to this point for FPS. Metroid Prime 3 was more irritating than fun after a few hours of play.
As for PC FPS controls being so wonderful, sure they're responsive but who wants to sit at a PC all day at work and then sit at a PC at home to play games? Not me, I like to stretch out on the couch and play my games in HD on a 60" DLP or my 720p 8 ft. projector.
SeriousKriss @ Dec 7th 2007 4:33AM
"who wants to sit at a PC all day at work and then sit at a PC at home to play games?"
I do. It's all about the kinds of games you enjoy, not about the setup.
Pezcore343 @ Dec 6th 2007 11:00PM
Umm...this is very old news. I work at a GameStop and I picked up my preorder demo and "premium item" (Turok t-shirt) about 2 months ago when I reserved the game. Why is this information just getting out now as news? My store has already handed out all of our demos to preorder customers, a long, long time ago.
J @ Dec 7th 2007 6:07PM
Oh! What a great idea, give a demo only to those already committed to buying it.
Lame.
scyron @ Dec 13th 2007 11:23AM
this is pretty old I had the demo a good month ago when gamestop had it exclusively, at the time. they offered it the same day as lifesigns: surgical unit was released on NDS.
It comes with a black T-shirt, no idea on the size as I haven't opened mine up yet. The demo is worth the $5 pre-order then just move the pre-order later. The game is pretty boring, you do get to see all the killing animations for the dinosaurs, which alone was worth it. I don't think the game has much substance from what you get to play in the demo. It is a good way to try out the game before an official xbox/ps3 demo hits digital distribution methods (probably around initial game release)
