[Disclaimer: Wii owner, DS lover, PC gamer, PS3/Xbox hater]

However we badmouth PS3 right now (yes, it lost the the console war miserably), look 2-4 years into future. Nintendo will have one hell of problem making next console better than PS3. Add here Xbox: if M$ would come to its senses and start properly sell Xbox in Japan, that would leave Nintendo in next generation basically with Mariodriods - everybody else would play PS3/Xbox/PC.

Now factor in here DS onslaught. It might be that next Nintendo console will not be two ducktaped Wii - but it will be two ducktaped DSs which would also allow you to output wirelessly to TV. Or something like that.

Hardware strength is irrelevant. If it mattered that one console was more powerful and had more features than the competition, the PS2 would have failed from day 1. The momentum is already built for Nintendo, Sony lost it. The situation isn't going to magically turn around in a couple of years. Never has, no product has ever done an about face without major revisions to the design, which basically means it isn't the same product anymore. Especially when a competing product is mopping up the marketplace.

No single product may have ever done an about-face, but I'd say that the PS3 is almost everything that the PS2 was not.

While momentum is built for Nintendo, they could lose it just as easily as Sony did when the next generation rolls around.

I'd love to believe that Nintendo had its share of humble pie from the N64/Gamecube era, but the cynic in me says that they've washed the taste out of their mouths...

Indeed. Nintendo could mess things up again big time, and wind up where they were last two generations.

You'd like to think rock bottom teaches a company a thing or to... but success can easily delete that knowledge.

Of course, each new generation is a new situation. Past success is always meaningless. Name branding is meaningless. Performance in the now is what matters. The Wii has this generation locked up, next one is anyone's game.

Will you fucking Fernando trolls give it a rest? Since when is making zingy comments about a console a reason for the banhammer?

Yes, he used to be an annoying troll, but he isn't that bad anymore, specially compared to others on the site. You should let it go and stop making idiots out of yourselves.

For one the only reason the wii sells so well is because of the price, the soft wear for the thing sells like crap, it's a secondary console, just like the gamecube was. It might lead in number in homes but does not lead in numbers with people that really play video games, it's a trap for 3rd party developers and developers like square have already said this. Yes the wii is fun but if a game is on the ps3 or 360 im sure the hell not going to get it for my wii. I still believe its a fad, and could fall off sharply next year. You guys are forgetting that there is still a hell of a line up in 08 for the ps3, the real war just started, I still believe things can turn around.

And Mario Galaxy alone has sold more games than Uncharted, Ratchet, Heavenly, Lair, combined.

Pretty good for a console that, acording to you, doesnt sell "soft wear".

Ha, the last cont of mario galaxy only sold like 500 thousand copies, pretty bad for a console with over 10 million units out, think about it ass hat.

2.3 million is a lot more than 500k.

So I did some research and your right, It did, but you also have to think that's it's a first party game, and what I said it was a trap for 3rd party not first. Take a look at guitar hero III ps2/3 sold 1.36, 360 1.8, wii 0.68. And they are in first place, now you would think with the wii's out number everyone right now so would it's softwear, but no. I listed ps2/3 sale together because many bought it for the ps2 to play on the ps3 because it's cheaper.

How about need for speed, wii was in last place, take a look around you'll find more and more of that. Kinda sad when the wii has almost 3 time the numbers of the ps3 and still cant out sell in in 3rd party softwear. Hum.

Yup. Wii/360 owner, even though the Wii gets no burn. I mean, what would you need a PS3 for?? Movies? Take that away and what do you got??

Nothing.

The PS3 will never win japan. I bet sony is working on the PS4 and aiming for that $299 price. The Ps3 is now the Next-gen version of the Gamecube.

A measure of a system's success is how easily the software can be "backed up".

DS, Wii, PS1, PS2 are good indicators of this trend.
