Nintendo now accepting stars for Wii Points
39
It's taken some time, but Nintendo Europe is finally rewarding its 'star' collectors with an opportunity to exchange celestial tokens for Wii Points, at a rate of 4 stars to 1 point. If you've been a diligent Club Nintendo member (200 stars), registering codes packaged in first-party games and hardware (250-1,000 stars), recommending aliases "friends" (250 stars), and of course, hitting the website each and every day (5 stars), why not save the 8 euros and treat yourself to that Wonder Boy in Monster World download you've been pining after for all these months? Take it from us: you've earned it.

I'd be all over that. I mean, I visit Joystiq every day, along with a few dozen other sites. What's one more bookmark on my list?
Besides, layered with the other stuff (250 stars per regged game? Does that include my other VC purchases?) it'd pile up pretty fast. Free video games are a better reward than keychains and whatever other crap they foisted on me when I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power.

I have 10000 star points which will net me 2500 Wii points, or 5 NES games. Not sure if it is worth it but better than a bunch of mobile phone ring tones and other bullshit.

Does MS do this with Gamerpoints? If they don't I'd have to recommend they take a page from Nintendo, ironic since they (Nintendo) are about the most backwards company as far as internet capabilities go.

This deal sucks, because it's only for the basic European countries. By basic I mean UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and for once a few more. But no Wii points for the rest.

What they don't tell you is that you have to fill out a tedious 3 page survey, every time you register a product. Oh, and you've got to use your stars within 365 days of registering them or else they're lost forever. (Granted, that's not going to be difficult now.. but still.)
I've got 13000 stars, but all you can buy so far is 100 points, or 300 points. Sooo it's gonna take a while to spend all my stars.

I've registered all my games and haven't filled out a single survey...

As awesome as this is (free games for buying games? no complaint here), I'm still not going to enjoy any of this when Americans are busy playing Smash Bros....
Still, I think a better reward service would be “free Metroid NES download when you buy Metroid Prime 3” for example. But there we go.

It's all part of Nintendo Europe's effort to try to make up for all the shafting they get, they've been getting good VC titles early, the star point conversion dili, and of course Mario Strikers Charged (Smash Football to them) first (which i still envy, it was a damn fun game online)

When I first got an Xbox 630 and I started unlocking a few achievements in my games, I thought that the gamescore points might actually be used to buy/unlock stuff/do something useful/ instead they just show how much time and money you spend playing games. It's sort of like a loser meter.

This is brilliant news. Previously all you could spend your stars on was useless rubbish with the occasional good item that sold out instantly. At least now not only can you spend your stars on Wii points but there's also some quality merch available.

Nintendo of America doesn't do shit for it's members. Whoopee, another free 2 cent stylus for buying Phantom Hourglass. Like the Brain Age 2 styli and the Kirby stylus wasn't enough. And a whopping two offers a year it seems like from them.

Man, that conversion rate sucks...
I'm assuming registering a system nets you 1k Star Points. That converts to 250 Wii Points. Not even enough for a single NES game!
Better than nothing, I guess.

Seems like you have to go through a lot JUST to get enough points to DL a game.
Could the points act as a discount or something? Dunno how the Nintendo Shopping Channel works.

You're basically buying the codes from the cards direct from Nintendo. Annoyingly, all the stock (of virtual points) has run out! So much for NoE getting things all right!
