Nintendo now accepting stars for Wii Points
It's taken some time, but Nintendo Europe is finally rewarding its 'star' collectors with an opportunity to exchange celestial tokens for Wii Points, at a rate of 4 stars to 1 point. If you've been a diligent Club Nintendo member (200 stars), registering codes packaged in first-party games and hardware (250-1,000 stars), recommending aliases "friends" (250 stars), and of course, hitting the website each and every day (5 stars), why not save the 8 euros and treat yourself to that Wonder Boy in Monster World download you've been pining after for all these months? Take it from us: you've earned it.

Whats a club nintendo member? Do we have them in jolly old North America?
Joshua @ Dec 7th 2007 7:04PM
Nope. This deal is only in Europe.
Cabcru @ Dec 7th 2007 7:11PM
Heh. Visit the Ninty site every day for five and a half months to get a free SNES download :)
SimonBob @ Dec 8th 2007 1:46PM
I'd be all over that. I mean, I visit Joystiq every day, along with a few dozen other sites. What's one more bookmark on my list?
Besides, layered with the other stuff (250 stars per regged game? Does that include my other VC purchases?) it'd pile up pretty fast. Free video games are a better reward than keychains and whatever other crap they foisted on me when I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power.
Roger @ Dec 7th 2007 7:15PM
Man, I'm in N. America.
Now I know how it typically feels to be European.
Jon @ Dec 7th 2007 7:16PM
I have 10000 star points which will net me 2500 Wii points, or 5 NES games. Not sure if it is worth it but better than a bunch of mobile phone ring tones and other bullshit.
cuso26 @ Dec 7th 2007 7:17PM
Must be payback for all those delays in euro nintendo releases.
Still... I want something like this in North America, darngitall!
ColossalHat @ Dec 7th 2007 7:27PM
Does MS do this with Gamerpoints? If they don't I'd have to recommend they take a page from Nintendo, ironic since they (Nintendo) are about the most backwards company as far as internet capabilities go.
Miharu @ Dec 7th 2007 7:30PM
This deal sucks, because it's only for the basic European countries. By basic I mean UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and for once a few more. But no Wii points for the rest.
StarFoxA @ Dec 7th 2007 7:35PM
Darn you, NOA. Darn you. >:(
loof @ Dec 7th 2007 7:39PM
but I want free points tooo!
loof @ Dec 7th 2007 7:39PM
test
rikimaru @ Dec 7th 2007 7:45PM
Did it work?
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 7th 2007 11:00PM
I don't think so.
loof @ Dec 8th 2007 12:24AM
almost
WorMzy @ Dec 7th 2007 7:49PM
What they don't tell you is that you have to fill out a tedious 3 page survey, every time you register a product. Oh, and you've got to use your stars within 365 days of registering them or else they're lost forever. (Granted, that's not going to be difficult now.. but still.)
I've got 13000 stars, but all you can buy so far is 100 points, or 300 points. Sooo it's gonna take a while to spend all my stars.
loof @ Dec 8th 2007 12:23AM
I've registered all my games and haven't filled out a single survey...
WorMzy @ Dec 8th 2007 2:21AM
On the new website?
rikimaru @ Dec 7th 2007 7:53PM
When I first got an Xbox 630 and I started unlocking a few achievements in my games, I thought that the gamescore points might actually be used to buy/unlock stuff/do something useful/ instead they just show how much time and money you spend playing games. It's sort of like a loser meter.
dan stabbingworth @ Dec 7th 2007 7:55PM
Is that the almost next gen Xbox?
flameofdoom666 @ Dec 7th 2007 7:56PM
LMAO!
gonk @ Dec 7th 2007 10:03PM
if gamerscore points did mean something, i'd actually care about them and be more inclined to play shit like yaris or whatnot
Jhongerkong @ Dec 7th 2007 11:28PM
Didnt even know MS made an Xbox 630.
CloudANDTidus @ Dec 7th 2007 7:59PM
As awesome as this is (free games for buying games? no complaint here), I'm still not going to enjoy any of this when Americans are busy playing Smash Bros....
Still, I think a better reward service would be “free Metroid NES download when you buy Metroid Prime 3” for example. But there we go.
Mr Khan @ Dec 7th 2007 9:04PM
It's all part of Nintendo Europe's effort to try to make up for all the shafting they get, they've been getting good VC titles early, the star point conversion dili, and of course Mario Strikers Charged (Smash Football to them) first (which i still envy, it was a damn fun game online)
Booxatron @ Dec 7th 2007 8:00PM
Damn. When I first read that headline, I thought it meant I could trade in the 160 stars I've collected so far in Galaxy for Wii points....
Jhongerkong @ Dec 7th 2007 11:29PM
You'd only get 40 Wii points though.
Arturo @ Dec 7th 2007 8:01PM
I didn't even know this existed until now.
Jhongerkong @ Dec 7th 2007 11:31PM
Well, it only started today.
KS Rees @ Dec 7th 2007 8:35PM
This is brilliant news. Previously all you could spend your stars on was useless rubbish with the occasional good item that sold out instantly. At least now not only can you spend your stars on Wii points but there's also some quality merch available.

Nintendo of America doesn't do shit for it's members. Whoopee, another free 2 cent stylus for buying Phantom Hourglass. Like the Brain Age 2 styli and the Kirby stylus wasn't enough. And a whopping two offers a year it seems like from them.
BPM - The Revenge @ Dec 7th 2007 9:40PM
Man, that conversion rate sucks...
I'm assuming registering a system nets you 1k Star Points. That converts to 250 Wii Points. Not even enough for a single NES game!
Better than nothing, I guess.
James @ Dec 7th 2007 10:20PM
20k stars. I'll have some fun!
Arturo @ Dec 7th 2007 11:47PM
@jhongerkong:
I meant the stars, not the acceptance of them for wii points, durr.
Max @ Dec 8th 2007 2:55AM
Well, I don't have a Wii, but I just spent my 3500 points on a Pullback Mario Kart, and a Wario Keychain. Suddenly, registering my games seems worth it. Now I just want a tv remote shaped like a Wii controller.
ThornedVenom @ Dec 8th 2007 12:55PM
Seems like you have to go through a lot JUST to get enough points to DL a game.
Could the points act as a discount or something? Dunno how the Nintendo Shopping Channel works.
Synner @ Dec 8th 2007 5:14PM
YAY, first marketplace , now this, moving to italy next month is actually going to be cool.
Alex @ Dec 9th 2007 2:26PM
I hope NOA catches on and does the same
TP @ Dec 11th 2007 1:18PM
You're basically buying the codes from the cards direct from Nintendo. Annoyingly, all the stock (of virtual points) has run out! So much for NoE getting things all right!
