Borderlands premiere features a 'helluvalotta guns'
31
Borderlands made its video premiere last night during Spike's VGAs with this quaint trailer narrated by (spoiler alert!) a cruelly deformed hottie. Your guide to the unnamed planet of Borderlands informs you that there are more ideal vacation getaways than this, pegging you as either a 'fool' or 'criminal' (perhaps hinting at the inclusion of choice-gameplay similar to Mass Effect's Paragon/Renegade system). The planet, which features the requisite Ice Level, is rife with bandits and untamed wildlife, just the sorta snag to cut your visit short unless you've got help, er, guns -- make that -- "a helluvalotta guns" (this is an RPG-shooter after all). Oh, and don't forget to visit the Vault -- it's got a big, glowing entrance. You can't miss it!

Scars and stuff, is the cliché character that warns you about the buried treasure because He/she tried to get it but something went horribly wrong.
Hey out of topic, remember that rumor that said a Nuke Dukem Forever trailer was going to show up this month?

Yeah, the scarring was a lot more visible on the TV. The chick is also blind in her left eye (it's all milky white) due to the scarring/battle damage.
And as Mr.ESC said, she's definitely the cliche character who tried to get said treasure but failed. I'm getting a tad bit bored with that particular cliche, it's the most blatant foreshadowing technique I've ever seen.
The alternate version of that same technique is also shitty, the one where the horribly scarred character is the one who put the treasure there with no explanation as to how the scars got there.

The alternate version is the kind of stuff you can expect in pretentious stories lets say Harry potter. You know a sort of twist that the writer tries to pull to make the story less predictable or pseudo-original but ends breaking what it could be a good generic story and turns it into a pompous lecture for dumb people that wants to feel smart but no one complains about it for the incredibly big marketing machine behind it that shuns anyone who doesn’t like it
I think the original works just fine, I don’t have anything against it but I would like to see a mystery character that doesn’t seems like it was pulled out straight from a pirate’s story or the Twilight zone like Gman.

it'd be cooler if that scarring was the price everyone had to pay to get the treasure

The game reminds me more of Lost planet than Mass Effect.
The Mad max bikers look interesting but trailers and CGI only prove the game wasn't canned(yet) so I don't know what I should expect.

Shouldn't the person's pupil get smaller when a light is shined on it?
I'm just saying.

"Self-generating" is for stats... the game doesn't create a unique model for each gun on the fly.

500,000 guns huh.
If I'm right about weapons in videogames half of them are going to be useless then 249,000 are going to be exact clones of the other 250,000 useless weapons or simply mediocre with 1 or 2 good ones here and there but nothing special and 999 are going to be actually good which are the ones that you are going to use during all the game with the exceptional weapon you found near the end of the game and obviously the “1” weapon that is going to be extremely broken making the entire game a cake walk but is hidden somewhere.

"What the shit? A girl in a game isn't the epitome of hotness?"
Yeah that's why games aren't rated on "fapability"

The Matrix? Lost Planet? Come on, have you guys heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? It didn't come out much long ago and it's the same exact premise, except that instead of Chernobyl, it's a different planet... Fantastic game, but it had crashing issues.

So this a treadmil game, correct? A diablo/pso-ish game? I find it interesting that two high profile treadmil games are coming out next year (this and Mass Effect). It'll be worth seeing how the market bears this

mass effect is already out
(and it's awesome if you can get past the sporadic graphic hitches and pop-in)
