Mario Kart + slot car racing = awesome
File this under "amazing gamer gift ideas." Sure, we haven't really touched slot car racers since we were ten, and all we can really recall is flying off the damn track every twenty seconds, but this still makes our hearts flutter. German slot car manufacturer Carrera has created a high-quality Mario Kart slot racing set, complete with star-laden track, and Mario and Wario racers in their own unique karts.
The Mario Kart Go! set is officially licensed by Nintendo, and features about 20 feet of track (we're not slot car racers, so we don't know if that's good or bad). The set is apparently popular, because it's already sold out, with a new shipment due in this Tuesday, December 12th.
We'd prefer to see Yoshi, Luigi, or even Bowser as Mario's slot car rival, rather than Wario, but who can complain? Mario Kart and slot car racing is truly a match made in heaven.

Finally, Mario Kart without those damn snakers!
matt @ Dec 10th 2007 6:09AM
$89.99 is no price for miniature go-karts. Especially when said karts don't even throw turtle shells that go "pew-pew".
In fact, the sound effect should be enough.

Never liked slot cars that much as a kid, they always flew off the track when they reached a fun speed. RC racers are fun though.

That was part of the fun of Scalextric - launching cars at unsuspecting siblings.

ahh, one of those nostalgic moments that in retrospect kinda sucked. they always went off the track, usually the track that was on the inside the most would win, cause it bitch slapped the other car off the track... plus it was all too fast to see anything or do anything. the only good memories of these are doing everything you can to try and make a massive jump and keep the connections, that and burning out by holding the cars.
HeyTone @ Dec 10th 2007 8:47AM
Are there large bus karts that are capable of driving against traffic, ala Toad's Turnpike in reverse?
Ah, memories.

Nice!

Two weeks I bought a Mario Kart remote control car in Gamestop... and my wife bought the Nintendo Monopoly.
Pretty good quality. This looks nice too.

I concur with you Fernando. Sadly, I don't think these Mario slot car sets won't arrive here in Mexico (at least for now, hopefully), so I'll have to stick with the easy-to-break slot car sets that are sold here. Sigh...

Wario is chock-full of WIN. Keep your damn Yoshi. I would get this in a heartbeat if:
a) I had the room for it
b) I had the spare money for it
komrad @ Dec 10th 2007 3:16PM
warios car looks sweet!
