Massively looks at MMOG's most influential moments
The MMO genre has come a long way in a very short time, but it's still important to look back at the events which brought us to where we are today. Michael Zenke over at Massively responds to MMOCrunch's list of MMO's most memorable event by citing what he feels to be its most influential, from the high points (Toyota's World of Warcraft commercial), to the lowest (the spontaneous and unannounced addition of New Game Enhancements to Star Wars Galaxies).
Were there any obvious milestones in MMO history overlooked in these articles? Were you there when Lord British was assassinated in Ultima Online? Were you or someone you love affected by the Corrupted Blood plague of 2005? Let us know in the comments.

Most influential? What about the rebirth of Uru Live thanks to the community? I've never seen anything quite like it before.

I find it rather odd that they are talking about MMOGs and don't mention games like Test Drive Unlimited. If they had specifically said MMORPGs, that would have been a different story. But, they were speaking about MMOGs, and if I remember correctly, TDU was the very first MMO Racing game to hit consoles (I think there was one other that didn't last very long for PC that probably should have gotten a mention, also).

Weak sauce.
UO had better moments, such as the first in-game scenario events, like the invasion of zombie hordes on Trinsic.
WoW more than likely had better bits than a stupid commerical -_-

Playing Swirve's Utopia was the first real MMO experiance for me, maybe Diablo but I don't think that really counts... does it?

The first run through of Hell in Diablo II should be on there. Alot more epic than most of the crap in MMO's. Having said that though, I used to play a game from Nexon USA (they've since sold it) called Nexus:TK, and instead of measuring itself by time (It's been going for 7 years now) it measures itself by events. I was there for that Beta, and for the companies sale to KRU, and that was enough MMORPG for one lifetime.

FFXI in itself is a huge milestone (being the first online mmo for SE and the FF series)
It still has a huge customer base, and going on 5.5 years (released may 2002) and 4 Expansions.
i'm still addicted to Vana'Diel since day 1... lol
