Virtual Console graced by Pokemon Snap, Ghosts'n Goblins, Baseball Stars 2
Pokémon Snap (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): We've long been morally opposed to the whole Pokemon craze. We just can't condone beating animals senseless, locking them in prisons that are 1/10 their size and then forcing them to repeat the cycle of violence. We guess we're OK with Pokemon Snap though, which asks only that you take pictures of the little critters. Also, remember that this version has new Wii features.
Baseball Stars 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points): We're not familiar with Baseball Stars 2, but everything we've read about the game appears to be pretty positive. We only wish the Wii functionality could have trickled down here for all the big-screen TV-smashing action that we crave.
Ghosts'n Goblins (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Ghosts'n Goblins is the kind of difficult that other difficult games tell their children about to scare them into behaving. It's a classic, sure, but it's also enough to make you put your fist through a wall. We're sure it's fun if you're really good at it but let's be honest ... you aren't, are you?

Obie @ Dec 10th 2007 9:37AM
The thing about those games is that they are licensed.
But I agree they are great games.
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Dec 10th 2007 9:38AM
StrangeBum - Breath of Fire 2 is already on the VC (and fantastic)

Good to see that Pokemon Snap is the same price as other Nintendo 64 VC games even though there's new Wii features.
Don't really have any interest in this game, but it's a good sign for future VC games I might want.
FOXHOUND @ Dec 10th 2007 9:18AM
"We've long been morally opposed to the whole Pokemon craze. We just can't condone beating animals senseless, locking them in prisons that are 1/10 their size and then forcing them to repeat the cycle of violence."
I still say Michael Vick should've used "Pokemon" to explain his reasons for "mistakenly" dogfighting. -coy whistling-

I secretly rented pokemon snap when It came out. Stealthed into blockbuster and then ninja dusted out of there so none of my friends would see me renting a pokemon game. Its actually pretty fun and much more attractive a buy with new wii waggle functions. I might be tempted to buy this. (I'll hide it on the last page of the wii channel guide so my friends still won't see it)
GumbyX84 @ Dec 10th 2007 10:08AM
Where did you and others read that their are wii-mote controls in Pokemon Snap? The ONLY added feature is being able to export pictures taken in the game to the Wii Message Board. That is all. : sighs: I would say RTFA, but know it won't do me any good.
On a brighter note, I am looking forward to getting Pokemon Snap as I have been wanting a fun and mindless game for VC for a while. I still think I know all the secrets in that game.....
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Dec 10th 2007 9:21AM
I think this will be the first week I get all of the releases.
I cannot wait to have Baseball Stars 2 take over my life.
As for Ghosts n Goblins, I can't wait to have it frustrate me more than any game since Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos. My wife is the only person I know to ever actually beat Ghosts n Goblins.
danny. @ Dec 10th 2007 9:29AM
Not to be mean, but your wife is either the game genie or a liar.
StrangeBum @ Dec 10th 2007 9:33AM
@ Danny
Oh you! No kidding, Ghost and Goblins was ridiculously hard. Although, it could just be that I was such a youngin' at the time. I remember the original Prince of Persia used to frustrate the hell out of me, going back and playing it again now though, it's rather enjoyable (albeit, still difficult).
danny. @ Dec 10th 2007 9:40AM
I tried to cheat my way through it with save states and still didn't get beyond the second level.
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Dec 10th 2007 9:43AM
I had the game for about 4 years and only made it to level 2 once.
Sam @ Dec 10th 2007 9:48AM
Sure she did. And I bet she also beat the NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too.
Clack @ Dec 10th 2007 10:07AM
"Sure she did. And I bet she also beat the NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too."
You guys are making me feel like some kind of gaming stud :p I beat TMNT on NES (great game). As I said I made it through GnG once (apparently you have to go through twice to get an ending). Also beat the old PoP on PC :) I saw Cobra Triangle on a top ten list of difficult games recently, and I didn't remember it being that hard. I recall hating those birds in the later levels with a passion but I made it through the original Ninja Gaiden. All of the above without any kind of cheats. I always did the Konami cheat in Contra 1 but I got to where I could make it through the game on less than 3 lives. Used to eat up shmups (I recall Thunderforce 3 being rather difficult).
Only a couple of games stand out in memory as being something I played a fair amount but didn't beat:
Castlevania 1
Battletoads
Legacy of the Wizard
They're still on my TODO list, though :)
Clack @ Dec 10th 2007 10:15AM
"As I said I made it through GnG once"
Although apparently that comment is lost in a ripple of time.
Baseball Stars on the NES is one of the finest baseball games ever made.
JodyAnthony (Good Eats Defense Force) @ Dec 10th 2007 10:11AM
I could always make it to the Technodrome, but once I got inside it was game over for me.
Shagittarius @ Dec 10th 2007 11:05AM
I beat Ghost and Goblins on the NES when I was like 13. Now if you want a real challenge go get the arcade roms.
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 10th 2007 12:57PM
I've only gotten inside the Technodrome right outside Shredder's room. Sigh
wait in the car @ Dec 10th 2007 1:50PM
I can rip through the original Contra without dying. Ghosts & Goblins, however, is another story... I don't think I've ever seen the third level either.
The farthest I've ever gotten in the original TMNT is inside the Technodrome when Splinter keeps saying "Prepare for the final battle" or something along those lines. I think I had a stroke at that point and died moments later.
Jerk Face @ Dec 10th 2007 9:25AM
Pokémon Snap makes me hotter than July.
Foetoid @ Dec 10th 2007 9:36AM
pretty cool since July is Winter -_-
Jerk Face @ Dec 10th 2007 9:37AM
Southern Hemisphere FTL, Ha ha..
NoNaim @ Dec 10th 2007 9:52AM
I'm curious to those of you that have played Snap. Would this be a game that a 4 year old could play? I'd love to find something that would be great for a 4 year old. She's good at Wii Sports and some stuff on Wii Play, but she's getting bored of those.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 10th 2007 10:12AM
Well, you can download the demo to see if you like it... oh, wait. I was thinking of Xbox Live Arcade. (smirk)
Brad Lee @ Dec 10th 2007 10:43AM
As is my understanding, the game is on rails, so all you have to do is point your camera and take pictures of pokemon. So yeah, I'd assume it would be a safe bet for young kids.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 10th 2007 9:54AM
Baseball Stars 2 was *awesome*.
WiNG @ Dec 10th 2007 10:13AM
Pokemon snap is underrated.
baby sea tuna @ Dec 10th 2007 10:25AM
Ghosts and Goblins can bite my shiny metal ass. When I throw my wiimote through the TV, I want it to be due to strap-failure, not some insane exercise in frustration.
Noshino @ Dec 10th 2007 12:32PM
I don't think GnG isn't a game for the Wii...bet some people are gong to play it with the classic controller...Nintendo would end up having to add straps to those too
Gangsta Smurf @ Dec 10th 2007 12:49PM
The smurf in me thinks this is great news for Nintendo.
The gangsta in me already illegally downloaded those games and is playing them via 360 controller.
Internal conflict FTL
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 10th 2007 12:59PM
I would pay full price for a sequel that let's me send photos of Mudkipz to everyone.
Donald @ Dec 10th 2007 2:06PM

Abhinav Kumar @ Dec 10th 2007 3:46PM
