Wii getting gifting feature today
While Nintendo was busy talking about the new releases on the Virtual Console, they also let it slip that the new gifting feature was coming to U.S. Wiis later today. Come to think of it though, isn't taking the time to enter your buddy's Friend Code the real gift? We'd probably just go buy a fruitcake or something before we'd spend three hours doing data entry.
That said, if you've already made the friend code commitment, you can simply enter the Wii Shop Channel, select what game to buy and send it off to a pal, rather than keep it for your greedy self. It's the gift that says "I like you, but not enough to turn off my video game console, put on pants and go to a store."

Neat.
I wonder what happens if you get somebody something they've already purchased. I hope there would be something to prevent that from happening.
Joshua @ Dec 10th 2007 9:47AM
There is. If a person already has the game, you can't buy it for them.
Obie @ Dec 10th 2007 9:33AM
Awesome, time to trade some codes. Sin and Punishment heading to Xmas stockings bitches!

"we'd spend three hours doing data entry"
I'm guessing you're disabled. It only takes me 30 seconds tops.

Gotta admit this gifting thing is a pretty cool feature. I wish MS would do the same with their Xbox Live arcade games. So many times a cool game comes out, but my broke-ass friends never buy em, now they can mooch of me!

Yeah, I know. I wanna buy all of my friends Psychonauts for Xmas without being like, "Um, can you leave me alone with your xbox for like 15 minutes?"

I can't wait to send all my enemies Legend of Kage

Sounds interesting, what's it about? Genre, system, etc.

I wish you could give away games you already bought.
I REALLY don't want SMB anymore.
I know I'm a bad person.
motang @ Dec 10th 2007 10:30AM
Screw that I want the DS demo channel!
B1gC72 @ Dec 10th 2007 11:17AM
i hear that. ive been spoiled by these downloadable demos this generation, it really prevents the waste of money on bad games. so saying that, i havent bought a DS game since NSMB. i may buy Phantom Hourglass sometime in the near future though.
gonk @ Dec 10th 2007 2:44PM
i think the demos have actually made me buy more games than I otherwise would've
Zak Canard @ Dec 10th 2007 10:51AM
I wonder whether this could be exploited in some fashion so games can be sent outside of the region they were originally intended for.

I support Starmen's seige for giving me Earthbound. I mean showing Nintendo of America to localize every single damn game.

I'm tempted to buy a Wii simply to see if these friend code can possibly be as complex as people make out.
Seems to me that entering a phone number wasn't too hard, back in the day, so i should be able to master this with minimal practice...
NvM @ Dec 10th 2007 5:25PM
It's not hard.
It just feels cheap and tedious to have to remember a code when we've been spoiled by screenames.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 10th 2007 5:44PM
Except you don't have to remember a code. You have to write down a code and input it ONCE.
umm....hello??? @ Dec 10th 2007 1:53PM
sweet...as soon as I get home I'll post my friend code here so you guys can gift me some virtual console games!!! = )
