If something has taught me this generation is not taking the word of analysts, before the wii release they were 'its gimmick, will flop, distant third' now that they see it succeding 'will not last long' I assume the analyst who made that graphic said at the beggining that the wii would be a failure so now he tries to back up his first assumption.

[apply sarcasm here]

This analysis is wrong!
Right now the Sony PlayStation 3®, is the best selling console and the most used world wide! It's the only console that offers the most exclusive, high quality, gaming and multimedia content then any other consoles world wide.

What makes a game awesomely good? story? graphics? sound? physics engine? NO, Simply, Blu-ray(TM)!
What makes a movie awesomely good? Blu-ray(TM)!
What makes your gif animation that you find on the web, in HD with full motion video? Blu-ray(TM)!

Won't Nintendo and Microsoft be on their next consoles by 2011?

It Nintendo creates somekind of external video card for the Wii, where you can change the resolution and apply visual settings... they can push the console even further then this, in my opinion.

I would not say it's not impossible to do, as ASUS actually made something like for laptops, where you just insert your PCI-E video card and your set. The video output cannot be on your laptop screen thus, and using the laptop side port to insert a sound card or wireless card and not USB. But nothing is impossible.

What in the world is with the sudden spike in PS3 sales at the very beginning of next year? Who in their right mind (or at least someone with knowledge of what is coming) would predict that? I mean, What is even coming out then? GTA4? But that's also available on the 360 and wasn't MGS4 pushed back, so it wouldn't be attributed to that.

Weird analysis...

Wait, I just noticed, that's not next year, that's THIS year... which
makes this even CRAZIER. The PS3 isn't even CLOSE to outselling the
360 yet, so it's already way off.

The bottom of the graph says "Year end figures". So, those numbers aren't the BEGINNING of the year; rather, they're the END of the indicated year.

Graph reading sk1llz pl0x! =)

What? So just randomly the PS3 is going to start selling like hotcakes?? What are people going to play on it besides Metal Gear and Final Fantasy? Everything else is going to the 360 or Wii which are both much cheaper.

What alot of people don't see (i.e. 360 fanboys) is that 360 is limiting itself. The entire way 360 exists, there's slim to no chance it could ever exceed or even reach 40 million sold. The marketing image, the non-presence in Japan, everything about it hinders its very being. The Wii is the anti 360. This time next year the Wii and PS3 will be true counterparts to this generation's console wars.

Mr. LilCo187, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hahaha. Who are these companies, and who the crap pays them? Nintendo will have a new console by 2011, as will Microsoft and more than likely Sony as well. If it's not out, it will surely at least be announced by then.

I haven't seen graphs so arbitrary since An Inconvenient Truth.

It was either in a magazine, on Joystiq, or on PS3Fanboy, but I read that Sony expects their console to last TEN years, so I doubt Sony will have one out by then. I guess that explains why their good games are so few and far between >.

@ Sora267 and Good_Bytes -

The statement from Sony about the PS3 lasting 10 years included overlap with their next system in the same manner that the PS2 maintains its popularity now and the PS0ne overlapped with the PS2. They were very clear that they wouldn't wait 10 years to release something new.

Can anyone count? Assuming a 5 year lifespan, the ps3 and wii will still be around in 2011. The next-gen consoles will either have just come out, or will be preparing for release at year end 2011.

Didn't they make a chart like this before the Wii came out? And wasn't the Wii suppose to be in a distant third (at least compared to the PlayStation 3)? At least we now have no doubt that analysts are just as useless professions as phillosophers. I would like to quote the great phillospher, Peter Griffin, about getting a real job: "Why?"

Oh man I love satire. Wait, what? They're serious?

I like how apparently the PS3 starts doubling their rate of sale right as 2008 starts. Yup aaaaaaaannnny day now. just keep waiting. Right around the corner.... Right...

How are we even supposed to take this seriously? There's no data to back this up and the graph doesn't even make sense? Why the hell do they predict the rate of sale to double in a month or so? What the hell?
