As the year winds to a close, the staff at Joystiq has been discussing what's actually missing from 2007. Not delayed or canceled, mind you, but missing. Topping that list* was the demo for PS3 future-hit LittleBigPlanet, which was "slated" to appear on the PlayStation Network "this fall."
Just days after the debut of an adorable, pirate-themed trailer – the memories of which are sure to manifest themselves as violent pangs of desire – MTV's Stephen Totilo cornered Sony and demanded answers! A spokesperson for SCEA told the vaguely menacing Totilo, "I can officially confirm that there won't be a demo this year." While we can't say we're surprised at the news (seriously, Fall's days are numbered), the finality of the official statement pretty much punches our secret wish for a holiday surprise right in its jolly gut.
*(Also missing: PC Live Arcade ... hrmm).

Someone should create a decently produced horror skit about the DelayStation.
also +10 for being the first comment, Sir.

mostly because those people want to justify spending 500-600 dollars on what is little more than a glorified Blu-ray player at the moment.
Just like i said the before, the ps3 does have a good future, when and if that arrives.

Agreed. I think the PS3 faithful are imagining some game that'll be constantly played for years to come. Instead, watch it be a PSN title with a handful of levels to appeal to the "casual gamer."
I'm looking forward to this game, but I'm being realistic and not expecting anything more than something I'll dick around with for a few hours, then get microtransactioned into a lower income bracket for new levels/characters.
NATO_Duke: I'm looking forward to HOME not because of the "social networking" bit, but because of the trophies as achievement points. I admit it - I'm an achievement whore. That's what makes me buy a game on 360 if it's released for both systems. I'm not looking forward to home because of the Abercrombie and Fitch fashions or being able to play some lame Flash game on a "virtual arcade machine."

i think zuburi hit it on the money.
i am excited about LBP but i dont think it will be a system seller but since PS3 has a pretty decent games library now (although its admittedly not on the same level as the 360 yet) it doesnt neccessarily have to be that system seller. who buys a console for one game anyway? but i want this game because it does look fun and the fact that its based around user created content pushes possibilities for said fun through the roof.
and Home is certainly not a system seller on its own either but it should be a nice added feature since it will add easy matchmaking, achievements in the form of trophies, videos and music, among other things. its just the fact that it is adding some of the features of Live, which is the superior service, in order to slowly attempt to close the gap. so yea, the idea of getting more out of our games and system as a whole would have to excite PS3 owners.
so i guess i say that to say this, LBP and Home wont be the be-all and end-all but they are steps in the right direction and that has PS3 owners excited.

"The only only console this gen that hypes its own future rather than doing it."
That'd be the Wii. With it's grand total of zero good games, excluding the ones already available on Gamecube.

That's coming from someone who's obviously never played Mario Galaxy.

I'm glad this game (I know just the demo, but don't they go hand in hand?) is getting delayed as I need to recover from my somewhat recent 360 purchase. This game is the only PS3 game that could sell me a console at this point and I'm just not ready yet.

my gaming for the rest of the year is officially lame, what with SSBB and now this. the LBP demo is the main reason I wanted a PS3 this year.

Your gaming for the rest of the year is gonna be lame? That is unbelievably sad. I've got FAR more things to play than I've got time to play them. This is like the best couple of months to be a gamer, and you're busy squandering it on a system that puts out 2 decent games a year. Ouch.

Oh god joystiquers crap your pants and cry about a game you don't even supposedly care about.
The game was pushed back not too long ago. The demo's going to be pushed a long with it. Makes sense. I don't think a demo for this game is really needed anyway.

I just want to kill some red shirts on this backwater little big planet.
But Captain you'd be hunting your own men.
THEY"RE uh-hum they're red shirts. They always die on missions and since there's no actual danger, let's hunt them.

Maybe, if I am really lucky, one of the games I actually care about for the PS3 will actually ship before the PS4 comes out. Good thing it plays movies or I would have one hell of an expensive paperweight.

my folding@home work units just broke 700, and my team of fellow PS3 owners is in the top 900 in the world.

How do you have a demo of a game that has no real purpose other than to go right? Wouldn't the demo be basically the entire gameplay?
To date, I haven't seen a time limit or a scoring system, or that you can even die in this game. Basically, you just go right, and go over obstacles, then you eventually finish.
It would be like having a demo of Flow. I guess you could time limit the demo.

But what IS so great about Zelda? I mean, I'm sure it's good, but apparently I can play a 10-year-old game just like it and get the same amount of enjoyment.

I was hoping there would be some life in new releases this year -_-
LBP demo was what i was looking forward to playing before the year was over. I get a bad feeling this is gonna end up pushed into next holiday.
Ahh well...a game pushed forward is better than the worst release date of all: "When it's done" ...DNF has been in production for a decade. I dont think anyone even remembers it anymore.
