Rebellion to develop Shellshock sequel for sure
UK developer Rebellion has declared its intention to take a break from the PSP and instead focus on those newfangled home consoles it keeps hearing so much about. After churning out several portable games based on licenses such as Star Wars, The Simpsons and Alien vs. Predator, Rebellion plans to dip into more original properties, as well as those found in its 2000AD comic book business. Before that happens though, the developer will be piecing together a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sequel to Shellshock, Eidos' critically panned third-person Vietnam shooter. (Hey, it could be worse!)Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley told GamesIndustry.biz that the end result would be a "mature product" and "a bit like Jacob's Ladder or Apocalypse Now in movie terms." Despite "challenging the nature of war, the horror and why people do these horrific things to each other," Kingsley assured all that Shellshock 2 is "looking absolutely lovely." Expect to learn more about people doing horrific things to each other in 2008.

How many FPS-WAR games do we need? Makes me wonder if the whole Vietnam thing is some sort of subliminal message that is telling US to enlist in the marine or army...hmm. We have America's Army, Shellsock (coming soon), COD2-4 with 5 coming soon, Conflict: Denied Ops, Battlefield, Frontlines, Turning Point:Fall of Liberty...shall I go on? Ok, ALL of the Tom Clancy shooters with Vegas 2 coming soon, Soldier of Fortune. Man, I tell ya...we will be at WAR!

Well....we haven't exactly had any good Vietnam War games yet.
WWII - Check
Modern Wars - Check
Ancient Wars (ala civilization, not fps, but you get it)- Check
I'm sure you see what I'm saying. I would like an enjoyable Vietnam era shooter. And then next, I want to see a Revolutionary War shooter. Just for the sake of war games.

for the revolutionary war, a fps wouldn't be very fitting
maybe something mass-effect-ish though (you know, with inaccurate weapons and cover) minus the leveling up, and you could be a militiaman leader, like in that mel gibson movie, and you try to recruit people with conversations, and if you do better in battles recruits are more willing, etc

Rebellion's AvP for the PC was far better than any attempt since, and although playing as a Predator somewhat sucked playing as an Alien was evil fun and playing as a human was the only frightening experience I've had in a game.
Years ago now, but hopefully Rebellion still "has it."

Of all the games crying out for a sequel ... we get ... Shellshock 2. War games are generic as it gets, Vietnam or otherwise. Men Of Valor was mildly decent and the rest are better left in the past, dead and forgotten. Building hype for this has got to be the most uphill battle ever.

Because the first one was so great...

I guess I am in the minority, I liked Shellshock on my PS2 and made sure when I went 360 to pick up the xbox version. Seemed like an FPS combined with alittle GTA to me in a way.
I'll look to give the new version a shot too.
I agree on the FPS War games can appear to be overdone right now, especially World War 2, which is why I like games from different eras and was hoping for the History Channel Civil War game to be good. If it was an MMO style game, large massive battles, maybe would have been better too.

Ye I liked the first one but it had a lot of potential that wasn't utilized. Anyways I looked at gamespots review cause i was curious. and look what i find "Your health bar regenerates over time, so healing is simply a matter of finding a safe place to stand around for 5 or 10 seconds."
they were making fun of the health system. sounds similar to halo 2, actually the same as halo 2, but the fact that it came out before halo 2 makes it more innovative but since Shelllshock isn't halo 2 they can't get a good review. anyways my point is gamespot sucks and I'm never going there again just thought I'd share that
