Take a trip back to CBGB and get your anti-authoritarian ideologies polished and scrubbed for this week's Rock Band downloadable content. Some of the masters of punk (rebels of punk?) are now available for your musical pleasure. The Ramones, The Clash and the Buzzcocks all crash the party on the the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network just like they were expected to. Only one more week before we enter the void and become pretty much unaware of what songs Harmonix will drop each week for the DLC. Although, if there's a piece of info we missed, be sure to let us know.
Punk Pack - $5.50:
Rockaway Beach -- The Ramones ($2)
I Fought the Law -- The Clash ($2)
Ever Fallen In Love -- Buzzcocks ($2 *Cover*)
After the break we have videos of all the songs above for those not up on their punk. There's The Ramones at the aforementioned CBGBs, The Clash in concert, and the Buzzcocks on what we're guessing is BBC's Top of the Pops (or something similar). No sense in buying music sound unheard.
Goddammit, Harmonix---let me keep a *little* bit of my money, hunh? Let's see an Osmonds pack. A Christopher Cross pack. Heck, even a Van Halen pack---you guys love Van Halen, right? Just *something* that I don't have to buy immediately!!!!
agree completely... more songs just makes the game more fun... at least with guitar hero, the DLC didn't really add anything to the game itself. It was just a matter of whether or not you wanted to play those songs. WIth rock band and the way dlc is integrated into the game, it actually makes the game more fun.
Technically, that "I Fought the Law" track is a cover, too. The Crickets were the originals, and then the Bobby Fuller Four made it a hit long before the Clash put their own fantastic stamp on it. (not to mention Green Day's note-for-note cover)
heh, heh. I actually had sarcastic "anal-retentive music snob" tags in my original post, but the comment system stripped them out.
I'm the host of a Cover Song-focused podcast called Coverville, so this is in my blood. But I'll shut up when "Burning Love" makes its appearance in the DLC...
Oh man. I so want to frag my fingers trying to play Ever Fallen in Love, but it's a cover! That sucks! I wish I could hear it first, I'd still buy it if it sounds half-decent.
For all I know the cover sounds like the Fine Young Cannibals version...
THIS is the Punk Pack? Weak as hell! I was looking forward to this but screw that. we want Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, maybe some new stuff like NOFX, rise against, the lawrence arms. the punk pack is wack!
I'm sorry but if you cannot understand the greatness of far-reaching and very influential (to Black Flag, Rise Against, NOFX, Dead Kennedys and the Misfits, mind you) bands like the Ramones, Buzzcocks and the Clash - then you shouldn't be bitching about 'true' punk rock (if there is such a thing).
I understand the greatness. but arent these bands in guitar hero 2 and 3. ok then, give me some Crass, or Germs or Cocksparrer, ANYTHING but the Ramones and Clash. We already have these bands. i was just expecting more songs and different bands.
rage is mass marketed corporate drivel. These bands created "punk" as you know it. There is truth in the title. Not like it said punk and was full of greenday, screeching weasel or blink 182 trash.
I have no problem with the newer stuff you mentioned, but saying these bands aren't punk makes you look like a fool.
If you asked Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, The Misfits or Circle Jerks if the Ramones or Clash were punk, they'd have a very definitive answer for you.
Me, I'd love to see some Rancid in there. And even semi-punk types like Bad Religion.
i didn't say those bands were not punk. I guess i was looking for something different from the ramones and clash which are already playable in these games.
I like Screeching Weasel, and even some Green Day (not their newer shit). However, the latter band is not punk. They're way too commercial and they lack the attitude (see 'Road to Acceptance' on their first album).
I've been saying all along that Beautiful Disaster would be a great Rock Band song. Dueling guitars, heavy riffs, and drum fills.... So nice! Wake Your Mind Up would be another good one. Chad's drumming would be hard to do!! Imagine if they did Applied Science!! YIKES!!!
