That's not all - here is something from FF8: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WIcj2lpaAtQ
More from Bushido, this time "borrowed" from Naruto: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xvjw1nwcsS4
More german rap, this time taken from "Hikaru no Go": http://youtube.com/watch?v=jntLGisbPRk

Let's just say that I don't think all these tunes were licensed properly

That was awesome. Incredibly well done.

Sad that Square had to sue. I bet if they'd worked out a licensing deal beforehand, things would have been fine and the video folks wouldn't even have had to pay royalties.

As someone here already stated and you illiterate fools are too stupid to realize, you HAVE to protect your copyrights.

If you don't, you can lose them. During the Napster debacle, Napster had to serve a cease and desist to Motley Crue and offspring's web sites to stop selling unauthorized Support Napster T-shirts because htey used to company logo and Branding.

Basically they said, we appreciate the support, but we HAD to do it or risk losing the trademarks.

Plus, they probably figured a horrid song and material from a horrid series and horrid movies would mesh well.

@ Synner

Yeah, part of that is true. Square had some amazing IPs at their disposal and post-merger they all went to crap.

But, Enix also had some great IPs. Like Dragon Quest as you mentioned. And again, post-merger they both went downhill. Too bad.

Naah, I don't think square's offerings were ever that good. At least not after FF1. I am not a big fan of anachronistic content though. Seeing the girlie looking guy with the too big to actually weild sword beating guys with guns just turns me off.

Same with casting fir2 on mechwarriors.

Synner, FF1?! I assume you mean Final Fantasy 1. I hope you're not, though. That game is just terrible! I mean yeah, back in the day it was amazing, and it can be played for nostalgiac purposes, but between the ridiculously cliched plot, the inane amount of grinding required, and the lack of character customization, why would you ever think that was the best of the bunch?

Because it was the only one that didnt' try to convince me a guy with a sword was going to take down an armored mech, or beat a guy with a machinegun.

A portion of Japanese and Korean citizens still has a deep resentment against each other. Who's at fault is debatable.

Why do you think it took so long for Nintendo to get into South Korea? South Korean trade tariffs and the Japanese not really caring too much about breaking into such a potent market.

They should be sued for the shit song, a cross between Beethoven and Avril Lavigne that deserves to be garotted with very smelly cheese wire.

Oh, and for acting worse than the CGI movie. I think, rather than plagarism of Advent Children, this is defamation.

"According to a judge for the Seoul Central District Court, the video "illegally used 80% of the storyline, setting, characters and their styles of dress and their demeanors," from the movie scene."
But Advent Children DOESN'T have a plot. It's just fanservice.

I don't understand why people are offended that Square Enix took action. They were robbed, it doesn't matter how big or little, somebody was trying to make money off of their hard work. It's far from fan art, they stood to gain from someone else's work without sharing the reward. And if Square isn't allowed to defend themselves against this sort of thievery, what can they object to? Why don't I just have a concert where I play all my varied arrangements of their music and charge people $50 a seat? Hey, that's fair isn't it? No, its for-profit thievery.

May I ask why people are bashing Square?

Laws are laws....for people who are bashing Square....what would have to be different here to better "justified" protection of it's property?

That video SURE was hella close to a blant rip off.

Sure I know some people mention "suing their fans." for mimicing...but when is it crossing the line?...

I just feel that Square was justified in doing what they did....But I like to know why some of you feel harsh towards this most intresting predictment?...

If you recall... they wanted to get an OK from Square but they "couldnt find the number" or something along those lines.

I would have sued as well. If you know anything about Art Direction, it sucks when someone bites your shit, and gets credit for something you did.

Does Joystiq and its readers also believe that the producers of Flashdance should sue Jlo?

Would George Romero also be within his rights to sue Michael Jackson?

Should George Melies' relatives sue Smashing Pumpkins?

Should Brian DePalma sue Rockstar for umpteen lifts from Scarface in its Grand Theft Auto series?

Should Stephen Spielberg sue Jayson Lamb, Chris Strompolos, and Eric Zala for making a backyard version of Raiders of the Lost Ark?

...and hell since its Japan should Hideo Nakata sue the six million god damn directors in the US, Korea and all over Japan who ripped off The Ring.

Scary stuff...

By the same logic...putting a graphic of Master Chief on this blog without paying Bungie would also be theft.

They really should have gotten their permission before shooting the video, because they're using it for commercial purposes.

SE should be happy that some one even liked FF VII... much less make a music video based on a scene from it. That crap was so horrible any and everybody should be able to sue SE for ever making it. Not the other way around.

The need to sue themselves for the massive amounts of remakes they're doing. They're about as original as George Lucas.
