I didn't know about some of those.
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 11th 2007 11:45AM
I would have thought Peach would know all of Mario's moves. Gasp! He's cheating with your hot double Rosalina!
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Dec 11th 2007 7:22PM
buuuuuuuurn!
arrrgh @ Dec 11th 2007 10:37AM
yeah but most (im guessing) were common knowledge
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Dec 11th 2007 10:41AM
The boost in the races and the homing butt-stomp were news to me. Gonna have to give 'em a go.
AstroZombie @ Dec 11th 2007 11:06AM
Yeah, I didn't know about those either. That boost would have been helpful in those Cosmic Luigi races, which were actually pretty tough.
Mr Khan @ Dec 12th 2007 3:51PM
Yeah, while a lot of the stuff with Luigi seemed to come more naturally, those Cosmic Luigi races kick your ass
This little tip will help
gonk @ Dec 11th 2007 10:42AM
cool, there's 121 stars
Tyrus @ Dec 11th 2007 10:47AM
The homing butt stomp was certainly news to me, but what surprised me most was that I can recenter the camera while swimming. I've spent a fair amount of time whining because I can't rotate the camera with the d-pad underwater :P.
Stopped at the 121 stars bit because I only just got Luigi!
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 11th 2007 11:03AM
Really, if you aren't a completist, doing Luigi is a waste of time. Take it from me, the "secret" sucks. But you know, if you enjoy the game so much that you would play it all over again after just finishing it, go ahead.
AstroZombie @ Dec 11th 2007 11:14AM
Yeah, the secret last star is nothing special, but Luigi's game is sorta like a higher difficulty, due to his added speed and slick shoes.
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 11th 2007 11:16AM
I noticed that in the cosmic races, the cosmic Luigi is faster than cosmic Mario. But yeah the difference is difficulty isn't big enough for me at least. I thought the super-secret star was like this awesome last level full of challenges. =[
AstroZombie @ Dec 11th 2007 11:51AM
Heh, that's what I was hoping for, too. Some big crazy hardcore platforming stage along the lines of the bonus levels from Sunshine. I was planning on finishing the game with Luigi anyway, even before I found out about the secret star, but it was still a bit of a letdown.
What would be really awesome is if they just cranked out a quick sequel, a la Lost Levels, that really turned up the challenge. SMG was one game that I didn't want to see end, and I hate to think we'll have to go another console generation before we get a sequel.

I about cried when I got to 120 stars with Mario and thought that I'd get Luigi + Grand Finale Galaxy, only to find out that it wanted me to beat the game AGAIN with Luigi. Sorry Miyamoto, I don't have that kind of time. Thanks to this video, I've seen the end and don't need to play through it again. Great game, but getting the same 120 stars twice? Come on!
hegemonyhog @ Dec 11th 2007 1:07PM
The one secret I want explained - how to make the damn spring power-up not make me want to tear my hair out.
accidental @ Dec 11th 2007 6:18PM
Same. I'd rather have the spring powerup be much less challenging – since the game was way too challenging to begin with.
/sarcasm
hegemonyhog @ Dec 12th 2007 9:01AM
Again, there are good types of challenge and bad types of challenge. PN 03, for instance, was the bad type of challenge - your character moved like a brain-damaged tank. Ninja Gaiden was the good type of challenge - your character did exactly what you wanted it to do, it's just that what you wanted it to do was crazy.
The spring powerup is the one place in Mario Galaxy where I literally cannot get my character to behave in a consistent fashion with how he's supposed to.
But, you know, more power to you. I'll stay playing the largely great experiences like Mario Galaxy while you go blaze through Superman 64.
DomoBraden @ Dec 11th 2007 2:49PM
There homing-ground-pound and cosmic boost thing should have been put in the manual or something.
Actually, nevermind, they probably did. How should I know, I never read them. Does anyone?
Still, it would have been nice to know about before already beating the game...
Abscissa @ Dec 11th 2007 4:47PM
"Homing butt stomps"
That is the coolest thing I have ever heard.
ThornedVenom @ Dec 12th 2007 12:54AM
Homing buttstomp looks like some sort of hax from Gunz.
Anyways, this is one of the reasons why I think that developers shouldn't patch their games: sometimes, glitches create a certain identity and appeal to the game. Who could forget the Missingno. in Pokemon?
They should just test the game thoroughly enough before release so that annoying bugs don't get in the way, just so that all the fun glitches can take life through the internet.
PS: Goddamn the soundtrack is beautiful.
Mr Khan @ Dec 12th 2007 3:55PM
The homing butt-stomp and race boost were the biggest news to me, i already knew about the spherical long-jump trick (happens a lot with Luigi), and the water-jumping
I didn't think Grand Finale galaxy would look so lame, though, i too was expecting something insane
I would still try to get Grand Finale though, if i weren't preoccupied with Radiant Dawn
lol @ Dec 13th 2007 11:11PM
I found the homing stomp a while ago when I was trying to see if there were any additional moves. You can also spin while crouching, but that's nothing special.
Cosmic boost was news to me, though.
I hate that some of the stages require co-star mode to get starbits. Ray and Rolling stages, I'm looking at you.
