Well, I'm playing them now.. I WAS going to say no, they are not worth it.. But then I just played the most amazing game of CTF on standoff. So now I have to say.. Yesish, they kind of are. It's managed to tear me away from COD4 for a little while at least.

I'm planning on purchasing them after I'm done with finals. I've always enjoyed forged maps and my roommate is rather good at it.

I don't mind the cash because I'm supporting a developer that has continued to put out quality material.

To Jeremy, you sir are the biggest idiot there is, in matchmaking there is a new option for the DLC maps to just play the DLC maps, you are playing match making games that WILL NEVER go to the new maps. good job, not sure how you even made the 10 dollars to pay for the maps.

To David Hinkle, im sorry that you only have gotten to only play objective, but to tell the truth, objective games make this game a lot more fun, but seeing as you only have played objective games, you have only played what 1-2 games on the new maps, cause so far ive played about a even amount of slayer and objective based games on all 3 maps.

to every one on the fence, if you love the game, or even like it, get the maps, Rats nest isnt small by any means, its decent size (its bigger then gaudian and epitaph or how ever you spell it) its fun as hell. Foundry, its fun, quick pace, with 2 sniper rifles, a rocket launcher, and a few dozen battle rifles tossed in to make things intresting, and the forge options are, well awsome to no extent, my friends are currently trying to remake a older Halo map, and doing a good job at it. Stand off, well, this is a awsome level for CTF and slayer, have yet to play territories people keep vetoing it. Think of blood gultch, smaller and 2x action packed (2 rockets with only 2 shells each and a spartan laser) with more thought put into the bases and level design, only flaw is, no sniper rifles are located on the map.

My position on it is, if you have 10 bucks arent stuck up for cash, get this map pack, its awsome, all my friends love the new maps, hell every one ive played with on xbox live has loved them also, which is a weird feeling to see people on live to actually agree on something.

No, you are an idiot. Anyone couldve missed that so dont resort to calling someone names and bashing someone over something so small. Jack ass.

These maps are not awesome. Stand Off is fun, but not worth 10 bucks. The other two maps are so mediocre and lame. I love Halo and even though it's only 10 bux, I would rather have waited and not paid. And I know plenty of people and read plenty of comments from others who feel the same as I do. Not everyone likes these maps. In fact, a lot of people are getting bored with Halo 3 maps already. They just arent as fun as other Halo's maps. The game's been out for 2 or 3 months and most of the maps are already getting boring. These new ones will be boring within a couple weeks. Foundry is crap. Only worth it if you play a lot of Forged maps. I dont, and dont know many people that do. I think most people play in match making.

You have reconfirmed the fact that people like you, the ones that blame the map for the fact at losing, must mean the maps suck. if you wanna prove me wrong on the fact that you have lost a lot on these maps, let me see your gametag, i wanna see if you have won, if not, you fall into the catergory i mentioned.

I forgot to address this part, Im calling him a idiot for not taking mroe then 2 seconds to look for something that, even the little kids ive played with found and that was also in the second installment of the game when DLC contect came out. I am not posting my profile on here. But my k/d ratio is above 1. It isnt great but its not bad. Another thing, actually, my team has won most of the games played on the new maps. Youre argument that you must have an great k/d ratio or win a lot to be able to judge how good a game or its maps are is garbage.
What people say about Foundry is right. If you are into Forge, then yes, it is great. But for those who arent and play mostly match making, then it is crap. It is a chaotic mess. No strategy what so ever.
And Rats Nest is average at best. A big circle with horrible turns, to Bungie is suppose to be a great map for vehicles. Well it isnt. Rats Nest is playable and will be ok for a while, but sooner than later it will be another one of those maps people will veto. Soon every map will be vetoed except for a few. I wont argue about Stand Off, because so far, I dont see problems with it. It is actually fun and a good map to play on.

You seem to not see my point, Im saying most people that are saying these maps are crap, have lost on them, not saying EVERY single person that loses thinks these maps suck, but so far, atleast one person on the oppisite team says it sucks, no one on the wiining team has said they dont like the level. So basically im saying people form opions on the level based on how they did, cause if they didnt do well, they wont like it. When was the last time you failed a test in college and then thought, by golly that was the BEST test ive ever taken!

I figure that $10 is worth the 100 hours or so I will play Halo until the maps go free. So a dime/hr doesn't seem like a bad deal -- maybe buy 1 less crappy game to pay for Halo/Rock Band content over the year.

Maps are good. I honestly was not totally up to speed and sick of the original maps yet. Don't know why I played more Halo 2, just more options this year I guess. If you happen to have $10 buy them, if you aren't playing a lot, wait.

The new maps are OK, I guess. $10 would be fine if they were in confirmed rotation, but after 40+ matches I still haven't seen them once in a non-"Heroic DLC" playlist. And having to sit through BS like Neutral Assault and Territories in Heroic DLC sucks the fun out of any Team Slayer matches that come up. Who cares about custom Forge games? Not I. The maps need to be free, and they need to be implemented into normal Ranked and Social online play.

You do realize they do this to be fair to all the players, once its free they put it into the rotation, but while people have to pay, we get a nice little exclusive club.
Think about this though, you get in a game and the game picks a new map, 1 person doesnt have that map, says that not all plays have the map, either A. it kicks the player making the teams if it is a team based game uneven, or B. switches the map, seeing as most people in the other categories dont have the DLC yet because they are still playing in these matchmaking, means you will run into this problem a lot, meaning you would not be able to play the new maps a majority of the time.

Standoff is a pretty cool map. Rat's Nest and Foundry really seem like great forge levels. So, you won't get much out of them unless you're a great forge creator. I mainly got them because I had an abundance of Microsoft points that I haven't spent in forever. $10 for 3 maps is a bit more worth it than the 2 maps from Gears when they were $10. $5 might be a bit much too if it weren't for Standoff.

short answer... no.

Long answer: for one, you really need to decide the value of 10 bucks for yourself. (one sixth of a new game, or one third if you buy them used). I for one was disappointed.

Foundry would take far to long to forge into anything worth playing, and as it stands now is a "run to the middle and kill people as fast as possible" map as opposed to strategic (its a u shape which I find awkward) and yes there are tons of places to hide, but that takes you right out of the action (though there can be some successful sniping if you find the right spot).

Rats nest is a lot smaller then made out to be... vehicular combat is really not that great on this map... and the on foot combat which takes place in the center is just ok... flag and slayer matches go very fast...

Standoff is really the only solid map (in my opinion), but again most of the combat is pretty fast (its not a small map, but the way its set up pushes the combat right to the middle, making it feel smaller) and it seems a little tight for vehicular combat. The "bases" have a lot of entrances... and can be "opened" to allow even more. VIP is fun on this map... flag games takes forever, if you are on the sides of the map, even in a vehicle there is no cover, you can get picked off quite easily.

Basically when side by side with the MP maps that shipped with the game... they seem really low quality... possibly rushed (possibly for the holidays), and definitely forced. These maps do not have the spit and polish feel of the originals, and certainly not enough to justify the price. the only good thing is that it has the potential to mix things up form the maps we've all no doubt played hundreds of times each... but therein lies the second problem, not everyone has them... if all your friends have them then by all means it might not be a bad decision, but if not then you can essentially cut your friends list in half playing new maps...

With as long as I waited for the game, looking back I now wish I had taken that same level of patience with the maps... Free is definitely worth it. and my $10 could have been better spent (pre-ordering Burnout Paradise perhaps?)

Rat's Nest is pretty broken, changing the spawn points around like someone suggested would help significantly. I like stand off a lot though, it's all the best things of blood gulch and coagulation, but just a little better.

For me though the foundry is what makes this all worth the $10. I just started messing around in the Forge, and the sh*t you can pull off in the foundry is awesome. Out of the 7 hours i spent on new maps yesterday, i think 5 of them were just effing around in the Foundry!

So, I dropped the coin on the new maps and I think they're worth it, especially the big open map with the satellite sky boxes (I don't ever learn the names very well except for a few maps). Anyway, for BR guys like me that map is great because I can just grab a BR and hang out on the periphery picking people off. I also like the one with all of the big shipping containers because it's madness...very high paced. THe other one that's essentially a big circular race track is getting a lot of hate online but it's good too. Just remember to look for the trip mines if the other team starts circling in a warthog (there are about 4 of them on the map!).

See you online and please excuse the rushed typing, I'm at work!

Personally, I wish I had saved my measly ten bucks. Stand Off is cool and works well with CTF and objective based games. Not that great a map but its the best of the 3.
Rats Nest is a shit nest. It's got a circle to drive your vehicles around and there is a joining middle part to it. Nothing special. Bungie said it would be a great vehicle map. Not really. You can drive around in a huge circle and that's about it.
Foundry is lame. Unless you are really into Forge, it is a cluttered chaotic mess. Besides, do that many people play Forged games? Bungie will never incorporate user Forged playlists so I dont see that big of an appeal to it.

Over all Id give these maps 4/10, and Stand Off is the only map that makes it decent as a whole. I would NOT recommend those who are on the border of paying for these maps. You are not missing out on much. Bungie, in my opinion, has missed on nearly all the Halo 3 maps. They just dont have the fun factor as the Halo 2 maps did. The game has been released for a couple months and the maps are already getting old and boring. And the new maps will be old and boring with in a couple weeks. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Bungie should be ashamed for the lack of ability to create great maps anymore. And MS should be ashamed for charging anything for these maps. They arent even good.

the majority of thes comments sound like they had bad games on the maps, thus making them crap maps, cause if they didnt win, its the maps fault not their skill as a player! I have yet to have any camp fests on these maps, well ok, once that was a CTF game and the other team would not leave their base in standoff. These maps have lots of little details no one has noticed yet, so far ive found a secret area in rats nest that makes delivering bombs VERY easy. Also the vehicle combat in rats nest is awsome, if you have a good gunner and driver, other wise yes, you will die a horrible death of plasma gernades and trip mines, and yes you deserive it if you cant drive or smart enough to let the gunner kill them at a distince.
I know I sound like a halo 3 fanboy, but I dont care, its not the only game I play, hell if CoD4 would lag less I would buy it (not saying halo 3 doesnt lag, but my luck with lag in it is better then with CoD), but these maps have renewed my intrest in playing it, seeing as i have been playing my computer more because of TF2 looking so much better on it then my 360, and 2x the amount of players with 3x less lag.
But anyways for $3.33 a map, its a good deal if you play Halo a lot and love the game, these increase the amount of replay value substantially.

1.Foundry: this is the first map i tried out and the options are endless i made probably one of the most beast levels ever ("7th Parallel" shameless promotion i know) but the forging is the one good thing about this map because the default setting almost seems like they just threw a bunch of boxes in a room. i can seepotential if they made a playlist for user created content but other than that the forge is the best option for this map the rest is just decent

2.standoff: great team map with the only problem being that the brighter side of the map has a slight uphill advantage in team games. this is the most visually beautifull map to date in my mind. this map would have been better if bungie had made a couple terrain changes(for example being able to manually raise the giant pads, and acctually adding an incineration room (if there is one tell me)).

3.Rats Nest: when i first heard of this map as an "indoor vehicle paradise" i was thinking giant racetrack level, but to discover that it was a level with a outher rim track that has turns from hell i was dissapointed. then i discoverd that you couldnt even play around the pelican and i was even more pissed off. i can see this level being forged into one of the best infection maps arond.

The bottom line: Make your own decision, if you like any of the previously stated opinion go get them if not wait.

I think the only valid comments to this article would be from people who have bought them. The question is if they were worth the money. So far I would say no, unless I have my friends to play with, I'm usually lone wolves which doesn't include the new maps. I haven't really enjoyed them much yet, but it may change. They just don't really seem worth the $10 to me, but I might like them more after more play time.

I have them. I have enjoyed Foundry the best because of how it can be adapted and because I like packing in 10 dudes into a small space. I think the other two are good.
As for value, I guess I am getting what I paid for in that I can play them now. But the maps themselves aren't worth $10. Sadly, they seem like part of a bad trend where I am going to spend $60 on a game and then be nickled-and-dimed, or ten-dollar-ed, for extras. But when is something an extra and when is something a feature that should have been in the game in the first place? Seems like it would be easy to release an incomplete game and induce people to buy the parts you left out. Should be interesting to see what happens when the 360 starts selling games that are just husks to hawk DLC. I'd say if, but we are talking about Microsoft here.
