Is new Halo 3 DLC worth the coin?

Just for a moment though, we'd beg of a you a rare moment of altruism and ask you to help those who are still on the fence. The holidays are tight times, and $10 could go a long way towards a hydrofoil for your uncle or something. So we ask for your impressions: How do you like the new maps? Which is your favorite? And, of course, the big question: Were they worth your hard-earned cash?

Seriously, how many times to I have to report this shithead for abuse before the ban kicks in?

this isn't the place for advertising.... and it's definitely not your place to bash anyone else here - you're being a douche by posting your referral link where it doesn't belong. If you've got something on topic to say, say it. If not, go search for a forum where you can swap referral links w/ other douchebags.

I like the maps myself. I really like what you can do with Foundry and I think that Standoff is a great map. I always liked the base sides of Coagulation but hated how big the middle area was. It seems like Standoff is just like Coagulation but with a smaller middle area. To me Rats Nest is the weakest map in the pack. I don't know why yet, it just seems lonely and weird. but overall I would say that no map pack of three maps is worth $10. I mainly bought it to spruce up matchmaking and because my friends will have it and I don't wanna be the only one that doesn't for when we play custom games.
Malleus @ Dec 12th 2007 2:40PM
Obviously most of you have a problem following instructions since the question was along the lines of "if you have bought the maps tell us what you think of them". So if you haven't actually played them why post anything.
I did actually purchase them...my first impressions were not that great but once I learned the maps started seeing some of the nuances of them I like them more and more as I play them. I would have to say Foundry is my favorite at this point..its just chaotic and very quick paced. Standoff probably my next fav and rats nest last. I think they are all good maps. I do agree than rat's nest is not as big as it was claimed but it is alot of fun. I think unlike any other multiplayer game Halo 3 allows you to customize the maps which in my book makes them more worth the money than maps that are static. Do I think that 400 points would have been more fair...absolutely but I don't regret the 10 bucks I spent at all.
Ultimately its a personal choice though, if you dont play Halo regularly then its probably not worth it, and there are plenty of other games out there to keep us busy till these are free for sure. If you are someone who plays Halo on a weekly basis then I really wouldnt hesitate to get the maps.as

Yes.......a definitive YES at that...
After playing all 3 maps last night in a # of modes.....they are very very well designed with ALOT of possibilities for all game modes.
FOUNDRY is my least favorite....but I can see how that map will be excellent for FORGE.
STANDOFF....simply awesome.....Could be the best CTF map in a long while as well as ASSAULT....
RAT RACE.....some people don't like it.....but when you start to explore it...and realize you can drive the jeeps up the stairs and through the interior tunnels.....its a blast....Will be an excellent ROCKET RACE or TERRITORIES Level or Dual Flag CTF.
All in all......if you don't want to pay...wait til spring. But they are definitely worth the hours of goodness they will provide in the future.
I cannot wait to see what modes Bungie has in store for us next week :)
Jayslacks @ Dec 12th 2007 2:40PM
If you're a gamer, you have little choice. You gotta get these maps. The three CTFs on Standoff alone were worth the money...
RomeoDude @ Dec 12th 2007 2:48PM
I was kinda on the fence for awhile, but I finally decided to get them. So far, I'd say they're worth it just for the forgeable goodness that is Foundry.

DO NOT CLICK ON THE FREE PS3 LINK! IT'S A SCAM. Yes, there are ads on Xbox Live and Joystiq. But you know what? People PAID for them, and they are what keeps Live and Joystiq running. What you are doing is stealing ad space. You deserve to have your IP banned from this site. And do deserve to lose a bunch of money having fallen for the free PS3 scam. And yes, you have demostrated what a douche an anonymous person on the internet can be.

when halo 3 came out i figured that it was the one game that i would buy the map packs for no matter what, but i was wrong. there is no way i am paying 10 dollars for only three maps. i could part with my precious cash if it was for 4-5 maps, but not for only three. i will just play COD4 or something else.
Stephen @ Dec 12th 2007 3:19PM
btw, i have played them at a friends house, and they are fun, but i just dont think its worth the cash
Jonathon Fisk @ Dec 12th 2007 3:36PM
I play a lot of Halo (level 45 ZOMG), and I am really enjoying the new maps. Rat's Nest is great, there is constant vehicle chaos along the outer "track" with infantry combat in the middle areas. Standoff is pretty unforgiving, but it still plays very well. Foundry is my least favorite of the maps, however I still like it.
I'm not a typical casual Halo player, but for me the pack was worth every penny.
AmplifiedJ @ Dec 12th 2007 4:04PM
I was skeptical about getting them, but I would say "yes." However, Foundry is basically a Forge map. I played a cat and mouse gametype and a freakin' custom-designed race track on it last night in addition to remakes of Midship, Foundation, and Hang 'Em High (all in the community map download section of bungie.net).
- Rat's Nest - what can I say, it is what it is. But it's still a solid map. WAY too easy to win CTF games with an experienced team, though.
- Standoff - Best Halo 3 map since High Ground and Valhalla. Not only is it visually beautiful, but once the weapon locations are learned it is great to play with. To the BR-picker-offer, I'm with you in spirit. I will say, though, that a skilled warthog driver (like me, not to be egotistical or anything :) ) can simply DOMINATE that map. Because of the fact that the Halo 3 hog is basically a death machine on wheels, coupled with the relatively quick respawn times, it may need some tweaking. But man, is it fun to drive around on. Also, for those that are missing the sniper, the laser is just about your equivalent for that.

Going from an old school PC gamer I hate the fact that MS makes us pay for content (including online multiplayer) that has always been given to (PC) gamers for free.
With that out of the way I do not believe that the maps are worth $10. First, you can only play them in a special social playlist that only contains those three maps. WTF? I paid full price for these things and I can't even play in any playlist I choose. Second, $10 for three maps? It would be more understandable if the price were $5.
GrossGreg @ Dec 17th 2007 8:49PM
Old school? My friends and I used to spend hours after school trying to set up our modems to play against each other in Rise of The Triad just to have our connection lost midway through the game. Every time I sign on to Xbox Live I do a little happy dance...
Macg91 @ Dec 12th 2007 7:09PM
I think the maps are great but I have a couple complaints about how Bungie did it.
1. The playlist for those who bought it only is a great idea, but I don't want to play the same map 3 times in a row. They should have added a little bit of the originals into the playlist so that way we don't burn out on the 3 new maps and come to the wrong conclusion of thinking that the new maps suck.
2. If you're going to prop up Foundry as the greatest thing to happen to forge since sliced bread, then I better be able to enjoy it in forge even with my friends who don't own the maps. It's freakin forge and custom games I gain nothing from them except fun with my friends, and I think 10 bucks should allow me to do custom games and forge on the new maps with my less fortunate friends that don't own the maps.
3. For the love of God please get rid of Foundry as 6v6.
4. Don't hype your shit up so damn much bungie because people are always going to bitch, no matter how great something you make is, if you overhype your products.
doobiwan @ Dec 13th 2007 1:41AM
They look awesome, but I can't justify spending the money when all my friends are playing CoD4. Microsoft should have thought of that and used free DLC to entice folks back to Halo. It's a lost opportunity.
Don Jose @ Dec 13th 2007 2:31AM
Standoff is excellent, possibly worth the entire price, but rat's nest is extremely meh, and foundry reminds me of everything I hated about playing Halo 2 multiplayer. Bad memories of gettting owned incessantly...wishing I could pick which map I play on, a la Perfect Dark Zero. Two years old, and badmouthed viciously by critics, that game has still captured more of my time than any other video game to date, and I've been gamin' hardcore since 1987!
Edge @ Dec 13th 2007 3:27PM
Yes. Completely. I might have paid $10 for the Foundry. ...not quite but almost.
I would say it's worth it if you play Halo 3. If you are one of those people with a pathological hatred of Microsoft, Halo, and American game design... you probably won't like the maps. But no one cares what dumb people think.
Edge @ Dec 13th 2007 3:30PM
Oh, and I have to say that there is one thing that makes Standoff completely and totally awesome: no snipers.
phihexy27 @ Dec 13th 2007 6:27PM
$10 for Halo maps? Yeah right!!!
I'll just go back to playing my free Nintendo Wifi. I can't wait for Brawl with its 12 digit friend codes and lack of voice chat.
Microsoft really needs get with the picture and take a page out of Nintendo's book. Nintendo's online service is far superior .

Jamokes pay 10 bucks for coffee in a day. We can afford, most of us, to forgoe the *$ for 3 awesome halo maps. And they are awersome bubba.
