Played with a prototype unit about 7 years ago at an ebgames. It had a skiing game and you could make the skier go left or right. You had to think of something heavy falling to turn right and something light, like a balloon rising to turn left.

For that simple application it worked very well, so well that at the time i thought it was a trick. This also didnt go on your head, you simply rested your palm on a device and thought about those things.

The demo had more games but I only got to play that one before being pulled away by my girlfriend. The device in and of itself was interesting, but far too primitive at that point to replace standard controller types. I'd like to see if its evolved since then.

Yes yes, mind-control would help with the Wii's apparent FPS problem. The said "mind-control" could be used for the movement aspect of games while aiming and firing could be done via motion controller. There is already plenty of devices that can control simple movement functions via headgear. Actually saw a demonstration from some company. The put it on a lady.... wait wait no no that was an ACTUAL mind-controlling device. A user could influence the movements and directions a person was walking if they were wearing this headgear they developed. I think they had to have their equalibrium a little displaced for it to work well (i.e. when you lean forward slightly while standing you can feel it trying to get you to adjust by the preasure in/behind your ears, to keep you from falling over.

They were actually doing the demonstration near a road I think. The whole time I was thinking how shitty it would be if the lady was accidentally navigated infront of a car because either someone snatched it or the thing malfunctioned.

Now we just need SAFE holodeck technology. None of that you get shot and you actually think you're dead so you're dead crap.

I fully expect Sony to bring out a new "mindshock" controller in a similar vein.

But you can only use the right side of you brain with it, so you'll have to think in direct math.

I wonder if some brains would be better candidates than others. I'm left-handed, so the right lobe of my brain is more active than the left. Would I be able to have an advantage or disadvantage? Would I have to buy a special mind probe thinger designed for my brain's architecture?

What happens when you start thinking about strategy in a rts? Do the units move where you want or do they start killing friendlies?

-"How do I make unitA build a barracks?"
+"Think about a banana."
-"Wha?"

"Expect Nintendo to make some facsimile of the technology for a future console, and commenters to complain that the system is just "two Wiimotes duct taped to your head.""

I guffawed.

The moment video games companies start to use this technology the moment I stop purchasing it. This takes things way too far. I really wouldn't be happy with the idea of letting technology access my brain waves and neither should anyone else be - unless of course you've already been sucked in by predictive programming?
