good review.
The boss battles were an interesting idea, but with 3 bosses, it's very lame. They should have atleast had a bunch of fictional guitarists that resembled some of the real guitarists out there.

In my opinion, Rock Band got everything right! and Guitar Hero 3 went the safe boring route.

Well hopefully Guitar Hero III isn't so bad when I finally get to play it. Was never really interested until my ladyfriend said she wanted it (a little more politely put I might add). So I figured what the hell, worth a try and bought the bundle with the wireless guitar. Didn't wanna feel cheap for buying GHII and plus I love the way the Les Paul guitar looks.

Wow, I did not take Yahtzee as a Guitar Hero fan... was I missing the sarcasm? Glad he disliked it like I did, though I'm surprised he didn't rip it any more.

i dont think he "ripped" on it, becuase deep down it is a fun game. the whole premise of these easy to pick up an play games just works.

No matter how much Neversoft fucks it up, it is still guitar hero.

not directly aimed toward you, but being a "critic" doesn't mean you must hate eveything.

Well, thats what makes his reviews 'humorous.' Because he coldly looks at games for the bad things that drive us crazy and multiplies those for a comedic effect... And no, GH3 sucks despite it still being 'Guitar Hero," Neversoft did manage to ruin a game and not add anything halfway exciting. Worst $100 I spent this year apart for a bike when I decided to try and save the planet and not drive my car everywhere - got a flat tire. I'm also disappointed with Mass Effect - too short, and wtf is epic about having ONE fucking city in space... with no living quaters? WTF? ... anyways, flame away.

I love the song selection in GH3, but the difficulty level of gh3 just turns me off too much. I think gh2 had the difficulty perfect, the last group of hard songs required *SOME* practice, but now that I'm in the last level of hard in gh3, I see some of the songs and just say F this. The difficulty is too hard, and it turns people off.

Eh, me personally, I welcome GHII being harder. I welcome the challenge. Except when trying to 5-star all the songs. That's just a pain. But actually completing the game is still fun for me.

Furthermore, I fail to see how you can say guitar hero 3 is bad while at the same time praise guitar hero 2. It's the same shit. Only difference is the difficulty. Other than that, the nots come up and you hit them.

Where is the fun if they keep it the same difficulty? Then anyone who owned the first one would just pick it up, beat all the songs on the first try and be done with the game in 6 hours. Oh that's right, it's trendy to hate sequels. Also the man who talks fast said so, so it must be right

No its trendy to hate awful sequels, I'd welcome an Assasins Creed sequel like a small puppy.
GH3 is awful, not for the song list (Although there is more awful crap this time round, but its leveled out by some other great songs, but thats an objective point and thusly is null-invoid.) The new Engine is poor, the Timing window is poor, the character's are poor (Again, WHERE IS CLIVE, and for that point, WHERE IS EDDY KNOX?) And over all it just seems to have lost the charm of the older games. Take the Bonus songs, Where are all the lesser known bands? This is the first release where I've gone "Wait a second, I actually know who they are" (Bar Freezepop) and gone "Ugh, Not Ruby again" after spending 3 days in a factory with it blaring out over and over, I was quite happy to snap the disk in half after discovering that awful contribution.
Anyways, this is going on too long and has thusly become tl;dl, so in closing, GH3 is poor for lack of charm, GH2 is good for the fact its FUN! THATS WHY WE'RE BASHING IT.

He is dead on in my case. I am stuck on the last 3 songs on hard and they don't require practice to complete: they require another arm! At least it drove me to try Expert just so I could get more money for songs and I discovered that I could actually play expert quite well and the increased speed made it even more fun, though on expert I got stuck some where in the middle and I don't think I'll be completeing that anytime soon.

I'm just wonder if anyone else finds that the faster the notes are and the more there are the easier the game actually gets. I play drums and the guitar hero games have so much more to do with rhythm that actual guitar, so by knowing when to put in triplets and use the fret board both up and down made expert and hard a more comfurtable experience than medium, where I felt as though I was playing off by just a hair.

I think you will find in the last particularly practice is all that is needed

raining blood, the hard part is Mosh 1, yes?
just spend a bit getting the fingering right so you can hit 50% or so of the notes then just use the star power

one solo? again, star power in the many triplets bit, like mosh 1 but in reverse, easier too because it's all hammer ons

number of the beast i'm betting is the other one. turn up the sound and get the strumming right, it's all about being in time

maybe it's just easier because I play actual instruments.

while i'm here might aswell respond to #20.

You're shitting me, right? You're complaining about characters? Do are aware that this game consists of see circle, push button, right? Everything else is just to make it seem like you're paying for more than an interactive CD. You complain that they put in a song? There's what, 76 songs on it? That's quite a lot. More than rock band at any rate. They could have taken out ruby and your whole fucking arguments would have been gone and there would still be a lot of songs.

That's all it comes down to. The songs and the difficulty. That's all these games ever are. You like the songs, you said it yourself. So play on the right difficulty and quit your bitching. You've made it clear you just like hating on things to look cool and against the grain. Probably influenced by the fast british speak too in this case.

Yes I am complaining about Characters, Since its a visual addition, although this is little more than Guitar Freaks but the chart shoved in the middle, it adds to the visual quality of the game.
76 songs? Thats nice, but whats the point when most are awful, Rock Band (which hasn't been released over here) has a much better song list and better prospects of DLC.
And yes, I have completed Expert career, but found myself going back to Hard mode since the charts made some what vague sense. (abiet less sense than the Expert charts of GH2)
I don't "Hate on things" (what a dumb phrase) because there cool, I hate things because they actually are awful. Also what does you playing an instrument have to do with anything? I play quite a few instruments, and my brother actually plays Electric Guitar, Does this add to my point? No.
Also I never got why people said that his voice is fast, I'm British and thats quite a normal speed.

The reason he can't beat raining blood is because you have to PRACTICE it. Do you think Kerry King just picked up a guitar and just played Raining Blood? No. Neither did any of the people who can beat Raining Blood on Guitar Hero. You actually had to practice the last set of songs. So get over it you whiner.

I assume he doesn't hook his consoles up to the internet at all (and I know hes not a big multiplayer guy) because there is a patch out for it that adds the coop quick play back in because someone forgot about it.

I guess I'm a freak since I'm on the final boss on expert... It took me a week to go through everything on every difficulty and, while I thought it was harder, I enjoyed the challenge.

If ZP can't beat it on hard it doesn't make it a bad game... Ninja Gaiden was too hard for me but I thought it was a great game... even though I didn't finish it.

I liked it, always hated GH, hes a bigger man than i, Just cause I'd not stand there like a right tit with a silly toy guitar. I suppose I'll get pounced now and told the guitar is a realistic replicar or some crap. No offence to the game but if i wanted to learn how to play a song, I'd buy a guitar and do it.

Just to add my two pence worth, GHIII was my first foray into the music game world and I happen to think it's the shit!

As expected, some of the songs aren't really to my taste (can't please all the people all the time) but the majority of them kick arse.

Got through Easy on my first attempt, 4-5 stars for most songs. 5 starred them all without much trouble. Got through Medium on my first attempt, only struggling with the Boss Battles (which I hate, I just want to play the songs) all 5 starred now except Raining fucking Blood.

So I thought the difficulty curve (at least from Easy to Medium) was just right.

Tried the first song on Hard and got through it ok so I might have to give that a go now!

LEGEND of rock is right. Theres only Slash. When you play that Morello guys battle, it sounds like somebody just holding a drill against the guitar strings or a turntable. Thats not a guitar being played.

They should have put Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix in there.

Also, hes completely right about how you get to the end in Hard Mode and Raining Blood and Number of the Beast are absolutley impossible. I still dont know how me and my friends beat One, but I did completely rape Cliffs of Dover. Im not looking forward to that battle with Lou.

I think its a great game though, this guy just finds a way to hate on everything.

The skill level of the games is one of the fewer reasons I dislike this installment.
I can almost 5 star everything on expert same as 1 and 2 but this one just feels empty compared to the others. All in all bonus songs included, I find only about 15 songs are any good at all.
Add to this the new and improved hammer on and pull off system, its been made so just about anyone can do them which is weak. The boss battles are borderlined retarded and the online play is a little worse than that. This game is all but a failure, and it will show as major publications hand out awards and GH3 wins none of them while Rock Band cleans house for innovation, better song selection and fun.
GH3 only sold well based off the success of the last two, but when you get it home and play it you quickly realize that its only half the game two was.
