When EA Mythic announced plans to delay its upcoming MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning until 2008, we'd be lying if we said the news was met with anything but a sigh of relief. After all, retail shelves are already home to more than enough half-baked massively multiplayer escapades for our liking, and anything to keep from being tempted to fork over hard earned rupees for the honor of being glorified beta testers is just fine by us. We'd much rather that pleasure fall to real beta testers, which according EA now number more than 500,000 strong in both North America and Europe, an impressive jump from the some 200,000 announced just six months ago.
Warhammer Online, which promises "revolutionary" realm vs. realm combat and just might be console bound, is currently poised to launch for real sometime during 2008's second quarter, though those players itching for an early taste of what the tabletop-inspired MMO will offer can still sign up for the beta on EA Mythic's website. As for the rest of us, we'll continue to play the ever-popular waiting game, which may or may not be just as fun. For those of you who are in the beta, feel free to let us know.

i'll try out a free trial after the game releases
it would be nice if the game's good though, and different than wow. i got bored of wow after only 5 months, less time than it took me to quit CoV

The only time I'll ever buy another MMO is if it can truely make me feel when I first started playing Ultima Online. Then again that'll probably be impossible because I probably wasn't enchanted by the world but rather the vast social aspect of the MMO I had never experienced before (I mean well other than BBSs and MU*s cause I've been dialing into servers to play games since you guys were in your daipers I bet).....
Hrm.. I think I'm gonna go see if there are still any decent Wheels of Time MUDs around *cracks zMud while he's typing this*. Those guys should really update their assembler. It's just to easy.

I know, UO had a good feeling to it. Too bad the engine is way outdated. I've always had a dream of modding the WOW game engine to reproduce brittania...

Yeah there was certainly something about Ultima Online that I never got from any of the followers I've tried. I would call for a new Ultima Online but yea... that was back in the days of a kinder more innocent EA hahaha, well compared to the modernday EA that is. And I don't know if I could have another nostalgic moment in time ruined.
I reserve the though of ever playing another MMO until Guild Wars 2 comes out. The first one had a few cool concepts but it didn't quite hook you, the concepts surrounding the 2nd one sound pretty impressive though.

Not all that excited about this idea. Plenty of fantasy based MMO's out already. Now a Warhammer 40k MMO I could get behind (I think I have a vague memory of one being announced? Not sure...). That would be a unique universe to explore.

I actually went to GamesDay several months back where I got a exclusive access code, and they still havn't invited me. Even with a promise from the devs there that everyone at the con would have access by the end of summer.

Please release this baby when it is ready. With properly fleshed out pvp focused gaming. Use the War part not like WOW which should be named Pve Craft.

Well there is a Warhammer 40k MMO in the works. It's just barely beginning to be started so It'll be a good 2 years+ before it's out.
Also: It's not totally based on the tabletop game, but the Warhammer fantasy roleplay as well.
They're...*Gasp* Sticking to lore!
