the only way that cameras will truly be able to do this successfully is if there were multiple cameras for different angles, because with just the one, movement would be limited to the camera's field of view, which would translate into something similar as to if you are out of view of the censor bar it won't work, same thing would happen if you were out of view of the cam..

Hmm, yeah, initial thought... EyeToy, anyone?

But no, seriously, this might be way better than the EyeToy, I wouldn't know. All I can say is the EyeToy... well I have it and one game for it, AntiGrav, and I can say, the only thing it's good for is watching everyone make fools of themselves flailing randomly while playing it. The thing was so inaccurate, lighting keeps throwing it off, and randomly, it will lock onto the wrong body parts.

I've learned not to trust camera controlled games since then... the Wiimote isn't always totally accurate, but, other than Super Monkey Ball minigames, haven't had huge issues...

Technologically? Yes...but there are many of those. For example the Novint Falcon.

The more relevant question is whether or not these can be hyped enough to prove profitable. It can be expected that several years down the line, (hopefully), that more advanced forms of feedback/input have reached the levels of accuracy and normalcy that the average gamer uses them on a regular basis with just cause. The logicistics of this however...well, they are questionable.

We can only hope that the bigger corporations see to it that these type of things become closer to being the norm. In terms of current events these interfaces seem to fall more under the category of casual gamers and novelties, (though that isn't necesarily a bad thing).

Only time will tell.

I think the PS3's movement + eyetoy has proven that it isn't really the whole "Waving around like a moron" thing that people are getting into. That's part of the reason, but more important than that is the whole "Pointer" thing.

seriously, they already made such a thing, and it wasn't based off of the wii, its called an EYETOY, or even more recently The PlaystationEye. its not like the wii is the first ever device to use motion sensing as a game, it was done before, the wii was just the first actual gaming console to do so, and the most successful, i like nintendo wii fanboy and everything, but your starting to become a little full of yourselves.

Knock knock! It wasn't us that said this "Wii has shown us the way but this device can go so much further" crap, he's quoting the people who made the camera. Think for a minute. It's their job to report anything and everything Wii-related they can find, that doesn't mean they have to agree with the statements others have made in the article. There are actual several examples of negative things on here about Wii. If anything, PS3 Fanboy is far more full of themselves.

I'd hate to say this this but... the wii is in trouble. I know! The internet channel could have flash player 8.... and homebrew could come sooner, and, and.... oh boy, its in trouble.

A camera controller would first have to reach $60 alone and profitable or it won't succeed.

...was there a need to say this twice in the same paragraph, really?

Wii's innovative gameplay will certainly trigger changes eventually, and it will be improved. Don't know if this is an improvement, or a "wii killer" unless we see a demo or actually use it, but it will certainly not get even close to wii's success unless they develop a hell lot of good titles to support it.

Also, I think in next gen consoles we're bound to witness lots of innovations if Wii keeps selling out like this.

well i have a PS3 and a Wii. the cameras are cool and they have a few perks but the Wii blows it away in terms of precision for gaming. so yea, the Wii is safe.

get past the "wii has shown us the way" comment and look at the bigger picture,
is this specific product a threat in any way,... obviously no, but even the motion controls of todays wii had it's roots in pc controllers a decade ago and others. bill gates once said the future of game controll is being able to pick up a tennis racket, a REAL one, and start playing on screen. even the wiimote using accelerometers and ir sensors is somewhat limited in it's ablity to tell where the controller IS in real space. and while it is the most refined and advanced version thus far. it will take far more advanced number crunching, and recognition hardware to make it happen the way we really want.

p.s. this is not a ps eye or eyetoy.
p.s. i can think of a number of ways to play with lcd and prism like matrials to get one camera to have stereoscopic perception. thinking up the algorythms to process said info to workable and consistant control data is beyond me though.
