Sure, you may not have won our $5K PC giveaway, but we're giving you a second chance. Our pals at WoW Insider have one of those ridiculous World of Warcraft Edition Dell XPS M1730 notebooks and they're giving it away (in your choice of faction) to one lucky reader. You've got eight days to enter, and you can enter once each day, but we won't be reminding you. That part's up to you.

To whet your appetite, check out their analysis of the system's Lv. 70 pricetag and their hands-on with a review unit. When you're ready to enter, simply stop by this post and leave a comment with your choice of Horde or Alliance. Normally after a winner is picked they make an announcement of the winning comment and congratulate the member.

Yup, but in this case we had to have an affidavit signed affirming he was indeed 18+. Since I've just received that in, I'll announce the winner back at that original post later tonight. It's on my to do list. I swear I'll do it!

Is it just me or should this not be advertised on joystiq? It's a contest for WoW players and fans of WoWInsider... not people who don't actually visit the website. Take this post down please. Let the actual WoW and WoWInsider fans have our own contest and win OUR prize

Well, considering the entire goal of the sweeps is to encourage as many people as we can to go to WoW Insider and leave a comment (look, it's easy!) I think that would be a strategically poor choice.

You're *really* not going to like the text promotion at the top of all Weblogs pages or the dogear in the upper right corner. :P

How do you know we're not all fans of WoW? I have a level 70 plumber!

I'm just saying, that this will encourage people to enter the contest that don't even play WoW! "Hey, a chance to win a free laptop sweet!"

It just seems to ruin the entire point. I thought the point was to give a prize out to readers of the blog and players of World of Warcraft, not to just see how many comments they can get

Would that it were my friend. There are basic fiscal realities of running websites with paid staff that require growing the sites and increasing their reach. A proven way to do that is with splashy fancy giveaways which not only attract new eyeballs to the site ("oh hey, this site isn't so bad. I think I'll stick around") but are also nice treats for existing readers (who, more than likely, will end up winning it regardless).

Hey, WoW is a life-sucking maggot, but a $5,000 laptop is a $5,000 laptop.

They shouldn't give the winner a choice, and just randomly give them one. That's the true spirit of a drawing! Then we can place bets on whether or not the winner will bitch about winning an Alliance laptop, claiming that a chunk of plastic, metal, and silicone has the magical ability to transform him into a twelve-year-old noob. Then someone can convince him to donate it to Child's Play and everyone wins!
