Extended trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and XIII Versus on Japanese DVD
64
Remorselessly ripped from the special features of CLOUD, a Japanese DVD named after Final Fantasy VII's spiky-haired protagonist, these extended trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus (waiting just behind the jump) are pretty spectacular. We're willing to look beyond the lack of pointy hats and crystals, as we're aching to play the system's first offering from RPG powerhouse Square Enix.
Does it look like 13 will be your unlucky number? Don't worry, the next Final Fantasy franchise is just a decade away.

Even though the storylines and gameplay of the later games have been pretty "meh" I find FF games to be some of the most beautiful games made. Considering what the PS3 is, that's a good thing for the people who bought one.
But I'll second the "FF ended with 9 for me" notion.

Agreed FF8 and FFX were shallow but pretty, 9 was the last great FF game, FF is now more a beautiful disaster just to see how poorly they dev the gameplay and refuse to learn from the process.

buncha crazies. I'm 105 hours into FFXII and I probably have another 20 hours to go ..... I hate myself for wanting all the hunts, espers, sidequests, etc O_O
I hated FF8, FF9. FFX was ok. FFX-2 was a joke. FF11 is boring. I'm hoping FFXIII is more like FFXII ^_^

ff12 was cool with the hunts and stuff, but the story blew. or at least I think it did, it was barely there. just wander from here until you hit another dungeon, etc
ff9 was the last great one

I actually liked most of the changes they made for XII. The story actually played out how a story in real life would for a band of players in the midst of a political espionage, war setting. I don't see how the generic fantasy fluff stories of the past are so revered. I want a good story, a well told story, I don't want a premise that's progressed with twists instead of anything that would actually require some skill to enthrall me with.

I liked the Versus trailer more, but it's the gameplay footage that I liked in the FF13 trailer. It would be amazing if Square Enix can achieve those kinds of graphics while only using 2/3 of the Cell Processor's potential.

I'm not naive enough to be fooled by target renders from 2 years back...

Right Anonim, because rendering in aliasing lines is now standard protocol in target renders. Take a look at this:
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/826/826843/img_4900628.html
The proof is in the pudding. It's running on PS3 hardware. No, it doesn't look as good as the pre-rendered footage that bookends the trailer, but it's as close as we've yet gotten.

The versus trailer looked alot like what I would expect from the next Kingdom Hearts game. I'm somewhat intrigued.

They just stop pussyfootin around and just remake 7 already. How long could it take to bag up some graphics and knock out a voice script? dont touch a goddamn thing else and you got a winner.

There's already a rumor that Sony is co-producing the FF7 remake with Square Enix, but it's still early in development and won't be announced until at-least after FF13 is released.

It`s a rumor so I doubt there would be a credible link, but I think the rumor was reported in Famitsu.

It's bound to happen someday, so it's really more speculation than rumor.

They both look amazing. The in-game footage from the first trailer is almost perfect; could use some more anti-aliasing, but the animations and everything look fucking gorgeous. Wow. I want.

Could ps3 lose its ff exclusives? I really hope not.. seeing how its the only real reason for me to pick up a ps3. I'm talking about the real ff games, not crystal chronicles, which really sucks hard.

Another Square-Enix trailer, another character doing flips in the air while holding or using weaponry.

Versus looks to be the better game. At least all the male characters are wearing a full shirt. I still don't get how they're going to turn that full on action into an RPG, it's too fast unless they pull a BioWare and add a pause to do things.
And is it just me, or are the soldiers in the Versus trailer going full auto with SPAS-12 shotguns?

The FFXIII trailer is very... Well, mixed up. Okay, some parts of it look VERY COOL, some parts look... Not so cool however, all of it seems to make no sense. Perhaps it's what Square wants, however when you're trying to push a game for a series which, let's face it is very hit or miss (I hated FFVII, I know, sadist, etc, hated FFXI and FFXII... However, I liked FFIII, FFIV and FFX... It's just very hard to like all the instalments of Final Fantasy.) you're best to lay on the "awesome" thick and far. However, the music is pretty awesome... I have too much of a soft spot for violin music...
FFXIII:V looks sweet, you don't need to know much about the game to realise the team behind the Kingdom Hearts series is the main gear in this title, it just SCREAMS their style of seemingly-depressive, yet strangely action-packed and exciting form of presentation.
However, overall... I still wouldn't be buying a PS3 for these games. I still hold out that the International versions of these games will be ported to 360, especially with Square and Sony at each other's necks at the moment. But if they aren't, it's not a real big shame for me.

I haven't play any ff games since 9. But, I do want to play it if it's on xbox 360, since it the console that I bought 2 years ago.
Well, hopefully they will make a REAL fantasy game not just a mixture of Sci-fi n fantasy.

Versus looks a bit more interesting to me. I'm seriously tired of the whole fantasy and cyberpunk setting. I'd be a better choice if they stopped falling back on the old "swords are better than guns" thing.

Because a sharpened peice of metal screams of excitement. XD
But yea, i'd rather watch a huge battle with swords then watch a firefight.

Putting a gun on a sword just makes it even more retarded. The balance would be ruined and the grip useless for an actual swordfight. Plus, FF8's gunsword didn't actually shoot anything, all it did was inject magic into the blade. Basically, the gunblade is useless all around. It can't actually shoot anything and isn't designed for melee combat.

Besides, I always find gunplay much more exciting then swordplay. Also Gunkata is pretty beast.

About December 2006 or so, Square Said that Final Fantasy XIII was only 3% complete. Factoring in the time, I'd say they're currently 40-60% with the game.
World Wide release? probably not. We still haven't gotten Crisis core. We (and by we, I mean the USA) didn't get FFVII until like...7 months after Japan.
Luckily, the PS3 is region Free. :)

I like the Versus trailer. That was fairly bad ass. But the other one just looks kind of stupid and generic.
Of course, I don't like the Final Fantasy games anyway, so what's it matter?
I actually bought FFXII, but I've never even removed it from it's case. It's the special edition, too. I just...can't bring myself to play it.

My sister-in-law's going to be all up ons Vs.XII, what with all the emoprettyboy Kingdom Hearts sensibilities. I guess they've girled up their male protagonists so much, they have to bring in a female lead to kick ass with a healthy mental outlook again.
