Extended trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and XIII Versus on Japanese DVD

Remorselessly ripped from the special features of CLOUD, a Japanese DVD named after Final Fantasy VII's spiky-haired protagonist, these extended trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus (waiting just behind the jump) are pretty spectacular. We're willing to look beyond the lack of pointy hats and crystals, as we're aching to play the system's first offering from RPG powerhouse Square Enix.
Does it look like 13 will be your unlucky number? Don't worry, the next Final Fantasy franchise is just a decade away.

As much as I love FF series (or at least 1, 4, 7, 9, still haven't finished 10 and haven't even started 12) I am curious to see what they do with The Last Remnant. Outside of the clips at TGS2007, haven't heard more about it...

I like how all the people who picked up Final Fantasy when it came onto the Playstation are claiming that IX was the last great game in the series, just so they can feel (falsely) elitist and smug about not liking that which is new.

i've played ffx and ff12, and they were nowhere near as good as ff1-9

I disagree with Gonk. They were not ground breaking like 1-9, but "nowhere near as good" is a HUGE exageration.

The Final Fantasy series has been on a steady decline since 7. They still get the kiss-up fanservice, but it is hard to deny that they've gotten worse over the years. FFX isn't good, it is a cliche RPG on rails. When you're figuring out major plot points 20 hours before they're actually revealed, there are huge problems.

I would rather see Final Fantasy 7 on the PSP than the PS3. I mean, sure I'd love to see what the PS3 can do for FF7 (as a whole not just the opening sequence) but as far as playing it, I'd rather be able to take it with me on the go. I've gotten accustomed to playing Final Fantasy on the portables.
Anyway, I liked the FFXIII trailer more than the Versus trailer. I don't really care for that whole emo bad guy thing the Kingdom Hearts dude is so fond of. He had pretty cool powers, though. The gameplay footage in the XIII trailer was awesome. Then again, I haven't played any of the console FF games since VIII, so what do I know?
