The reason they always mention Halo is they don't(do) want to admit that Halo 3 is the benchmark of all fps.

UT series are more towars the traditonal high pace, ultra power guns the old timers like: Doom, Quake, CS; to mention a few respectable series.

While Halo is really on a different league where it is not as fast as those games but faster than CoD series and a mixture of projectiles weapon + futuristic ones.

Not to mentioned Halo SOLD a lot more....which make it the de facto fps.

Still, I like UT series because of the high pace gameplay and lots of badarse weapon accompanying with it.

Verdict: UT is a Rent, Halo is a buy.

I would honestly say its the other way around. The Halo story is good, but not as good as online play. The game you will be playing online more is the one you buy, and that is UT3. Halo's multiplayer is too slow and too unbalanced to be fun or competitive.

UT3 - Buy
Halo 3 - Rent.

I bought both, but I'm seriously considering selling Halo 3.

I can see where you're coming from. I love Halo multiplayer as well. But UT3 has an intensity and fun no other multiplayer game can match. It gets the adrenaline going, you're never waiting to spawn, and you always have to be 100% into it or you're going to end up hanging by your entrails to a wall (gotta love the stinger). Halo, because it's slower, has respawn timers, etc... I just could never play for the same length of time.

@baka_7

I still play halo.
But u have to consider the unbalanced weaponary(not sure if that word exists :S). eg Hog Turrets, melee

Also the long wait for each game entry.

AND no custom game lists so that u can instantly join any level u choose. Are there even dedicated dervers out there apart from user hosted?

So much for being the de factostandard

Appreently the PS3 version has a lot more running servers and players than the PC version...

The PC version has like 30 servers...

So sad... So sad... For PC...

I guess I'll have to pick this up for PS3... Looks good though...

I've been playing the PS3 version for three days straight. Awesome game. I'm a long time UT fan and still have UT2004 and UT installed on my pc. One thing that bothers me about these reviews is the lack of mentioning one of the biggest pluses of UTIII...m/kb support. Personally, I use the splitfish with all of my PS3 FPS games but UTIII controls the best because it's program to use mouse and keyboard. Mouse smoothing/mkb support/splitfish allows for quick 180 degree turns and twitch kills that are absolutely impossible in any other console FPS. The Splitfish works great with Resistance and I've been using it for months but even it doesn't control as well as UTIII. The framerate and smoothness of the gameplay is phenomenal and it's compares to well to the PC version graphically. PC version may be faster but I challenge anyone to say the PS3 version is slow. Use the Speed Freak mutator and the game runs too fast for many console FPS fans.

There is a reason UT is a long loved series and the PS3 version is the first console port that proves why. Halo better than UT? I think not. CoD4? you may have an argument there but without M/KB support for CoD4 on PS3 UTIII is the better game IMO.

If consoles begin to support mouse and keyboard as a standard, and mods... my fate is a PC gamer is somewhat challenged.

I read that it doesn't have splitscreen, but they were going to come out with a ptch for that. Does anybody know when this patch is supposed to come out?

I want my Assault mode and facing worlds back, along with the lively colors of what UT has always been. I can't stand the muddy Gears look they put into UT. It's back to 2k4 until they mod the hell out of it, straight up out of vanilla. It's no wonder no one wants anything to do with on PC.

There are actually already tweaks that reduce the distance fog and therefore increase the vibrancy of the vanilla maps.

Some of the Unreal Warfare maps play like Assault, and god knows modders will make some that play identical to assault in time.

But god, I do wish they hadn't decided that the way Gears of War looked was the prettiest of all. UT3 always had a quirky colorful look that I loved.

Until now games sell much, much more on the Xbox 360 than any other consoles when it come to fps(even last year CoD2). But I wonder is it also going sell a lot of copies on the xbox platform when most games that come to ps3 first then a few months later to xbox 360 hardly sell any copies.

Now, UT3 sells poorly on PC and just a little bit better on the ps3 but I doubt that it will effect Epic incomes since they already harvested tons of money from Gears Of War.

Anyway, if Crysis never come to xbox 360, EA will rethink about their investment in Crytek.

mmmm, investement in research and development is never wasted...yes, they'll be pissed, but guess what, they have achieved graphics and physics that blow away everything else out there right now...

we'll PROBABLY see the game comming to the 360 and/or PS3, but don't bet on it...

I am not going to be picking up this game. There is one main reason for this, UT has lost its skill requirement. While i was playing the demo i noticed that its ALL splash damage, meaning that the Shock rifle and Sniper rifle are of no use now. You can just run around with Rockets and the mini-gun and you can lead the match. In comparison in Halo 3 the Sniper rifle and BR are of GREAT use, if you control those; you control the map. The same cannot be said about UT3.

I just got a PS3 and this game. I am a dedicated 360 owner and have to say UT is one of the best online frag fests ever. UT III will be my only online FPS for a while !!!!!!!!!!

Is it terrible of me to have picked this game up on Tuesday (on PS3) and have traded it in yesterday? I devoted a good 6 hours to the gameplay and hated this one. To me, COD4 smokes this game so far as graphics, sound, and overall control. Did anyone else think that the graphics were shoddy and that the sound was a bit like Mortal Kombat II? I'm trying to figure out if maybe I got a bad disc or something...I just don't see what people are so excited about.

Ouch. Shoddy graphics? You're either looking at different UT3, or getting COD 4 mixed up with Crysis.

Personally, I don't like COD4's graphics or art direction. Generally, I don't like games that try to appear hyper-realistic, because in a few months they're already outdated. COD4, which I inevitably compare to Crysis, since the gameplay is actually very similar, was outdated before it was even released.

UT3, on the other hand, has not only advanced (high res textures and tons of polys) graphics, but also a great art direction, that goes for stylistic realism. This is the same thing, in my opinion, that keeps Halo 3 looking rather beautiful, while not having the highest resolution or most polys-- it's all about style. (Same goes for why Nintendo games are often quite pretty)

you can't compare ut3 to halo. halo is slow paced and in my opinion, boring. ut3 is crazy fast. ut3 should be compared to ps3 launch game resistance fall of man. they're both extremely face paced online. ut3 is definitely faster, but the change from resistance to ut3 is alot easier than halo to ut3. mainly because both ut3 and resistance are twitchy shooters that require fast reaction time, while the halo gameplay basically lets you take your time to aim, even during the 'epic' battles. anyways, i like ut3 alot. i already have a ton of mods on my ps3 for it and its really fun. last night online i got 352 kills and only died 4 times. its crazy.

Where do you get your mods for it? also, what about split screen offline gaming, know if it's capable of that?
