Script for animated Castlevania film nearly complete

We don't blame you for forgetting about the three-part animated Castlevania film that was announced almost a year ago by producer Project 51 -- there just hasn't been that much news about it since then. Fear not: the adult-themed cartoon based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is still on track, according to writer Warren Ellis' production blog.
While work on the animation of the feature-length film has not yet begun, Ellis has finished his screenplay of the movie, and he anticipates the finalized, producer-approved script to rear its head in a little over a month. Ellis says he's happy with the script so far; that it's "a good film first and a videogame-movie second." He also promises a sweet nude scene with everyone's favorite anagrammatically-challenged dhampir, Alucard -- "Because girls and gay men need fan service too." Well said, Warren.

Warren Ellis is amazing (see: Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., Thunderbolts, and Black Summer, as well as his book Crooked Little Vein)
I have no worries about this movie at all.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 16th 2007 2:22AM
OMG. Nextwave is so fucking funny!!
DiRT @ Dec 16th 2007 2:40PM
Black Summer is garbage. Great - Warren Ellis can f&*k something else up.

"'Because girls and gay men need fan service too.' Well said, Warren."
Well said indeed.

That's QOTY status right there

guess one script writer isn't on strike...
Blue_Falcon @ Dec 15th 2007 9:41PM
Warren isn't a member of the WGA, so the whole writer's strike doesn't apply to him (most comic writers aren't, either).
32_Footsteps @ Dec 15th 2007 9:54PM
Yeah, I guess Ellis isn't in the WGA at all. I thought you had to be to get a script done in Hollywood, even if you ordinarily write in a different medium (like Ellis and comics).
Consequently, this makes me think that the strike isn't going to end well at all for the WGA. If they can get prominent writers for major properties even with the strike going on, then I really question how much anyone will care about the strike.
Seth Brower @ Dec 15th 2007 9:59PM
Issues of Warren being in the WGA aside, the animated writers are a separate guild, so they can continue to work, as I understand it this applies to both television & feature animation.

Oh shit. I didn't know Ellis was writing the script!!
I've been a fan of his since reading Transmetropolitan.

So I guess I'll be the first to say it...
Yay, James Jean! He's amazing.

JJ is quite amazing, too. His covers for Fables are nothing short of phenomenal.

Whoaaaaaa, someone needs to update their IMDB profiles.

I saw this and immediately pictured myself in costume waiting for the midnight opening. And then I got to the end. Come on. Any nude scenes stuck in movies for no reason are incredibly dumb. After they pull off a stunt like that (in an ANIMATED movie!) I'm not to sure how the rest will turn out (even if the great Ellis is writing it.)
L @ Dec 16th 2007 5:33PM
Alucard naked? That makes me not want to see it.
Max Headroom @ Dec 16th 2007 6:20PM
I have to kind of agree. Castlevania has never, ever been about sex. Yet early details on this AND the live action movie both include sexual elements as nearly the very first details released. So far, I'm disappointed.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 16th 2007 10:32PM
sigh, are you serious? Are you people really trying to tell me this movie will be ruined because of one nude scene that will probably last for five seconds?
I'm really starting to think that you fanboys just want to find something to bitch about so you take any small detail, and then blow it out of proportion so you can just bitch, bitch, bitch. Times like these make me wish there was a button on my laptop that will let me hurt people.
