Weekly Webcomic Wrapup gets introspective

Why do we highlight webcomics? Why only about video games? Aren't we, by rewarding comics for sticking to one just one topic, ultimately hurting the growth of webcomics? Do we even matter, in the grand scheme of things? And why a poll? Should we really promote competition? Is it playful, friendly, or disheartening? Do we ask too many questions? To ourselves? Agh, now we have a headache.

We think too much, but we're not alone. Here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomic; be sure to vote for your favorite!

I hate it when people posted "they all sucked," but they all sucked.

It's a remarkably bizarre sensation when you realise that even though your vote is essentially worthless, tagging any of this week's webcomics would still, at some level, feel like wasting it.

Hmmm, slim pickings this week. I guess I'll have to troll the comments to make up for it.

I voted for CAD. It was good this week. The current arc is actually funny.

Oh my God can you please stop listing CAD. Buckley is the most unfunny, creatively devoid shitstain on the already soiled under-garment that is Webcomic. He has absolutely 0 sense for comedic timing and every joke is over explained like he thinks everyone reading the comic is as slow-witted as he is. Every character is copy-pasted into the panels, every character has exactly 2 expressions (droopy eyes with slack mouth or open eyes with slack mouth) and he has two strategies for creating background: solid color or Google Image Search. I can't believe this fuckstick is able to sustain his shitty existence solely on revenue from his site.

Read through them all in one sitting, the jokes (aside from certain things) are usually more of character funnies. Erm, that wasn't explained well, but I don't care.

I concur. I used to read it, but then I realized that it's basically a paint-by-numbers game comic (the "crazy" lead, the "hot gamer chick", the "sarcastic friend", the "inanimate object/animal turned genius", etc.).

This would be forgivable if it was funny, but it so rarely hits that it's not worth reading.

CAD has it's moments, but they are few and far in between. Certainly not in the same league of PA and VG cats.

i picked digital unrest mostly because i just learned this a month ago in math 11, so the humor was not lost on me one bit and it is so true

Yeah I found the Call of Duty one quite funny, since like you said - its true. Got my vote.

Same here, read the webcomic just when I was studying for a math exam about the sinusoids. Needless to say, I roflmao'd

Hijinks got my vote, even if its totally real its frigging hilarious. DU, actionstrip, and 2pstart made me giggle too.

Hijinks Ensue was a nice portrayal of Rock Band attitude, when the game is taken too seriously (in other words, nice parallels).

But 2P Start makes a timeless statement.

Wow, what's with DA? Is the implication of this comic that Samus really let herself go and her suit exploded off of her? Because THEN it would be kind of funny.

Also, I think Awkward Zombie should be included more often in these wrapups. It's been the most consistently amusing webcomic I've read recently.

How is the Metroid one not winning? It has a large breasts Samus and sex.

Am I the only one to notice that he got the mythbusters names wrong in the slackerz comic?

"Pringles guy" is actually Jamie, "Freeman" is Adam.

The whole joke in panel 8 is basically ruined.

Not to mention it is sacrilege to a Mythbusting fan like myself.

I hope you're being sarcastic, because he referenced in the strip itself that the character in the strip didn't know the difference between Adam and Jamie, but I guess you got outraged and didn't read the rest of the comic.

Gotta plug my comic this week. Before reading it, please be aware of the following:

-I have no artistic ability nor do I care too
-Size does matter (ie. long read)
-In comic ads will be all the rage in 12 months
-My regular artist is on vacation
-He's also a dick

Honestly, I have no talent for web comics. Our regular artist was on vacation and asked us to fill in. All I could think of was cutting up his old comics. Also, I thought it would be fun to go against every single rule he told me was necessary to make a good comic, just to tick him off.

This is one of the worst week in comics EVER!

Ahahaha, what the hell has happened this week? It's as if I've fallen into Bizzaro world, where the clearly best webcomics get the least votes, and vice versa.

I went for the Call of Duty one, the only one that really elicited a positive response from me

I love how none of them have punchlines.

#1: no punchline
#2: Pointless explained punchline, like always. Why is this strip constantly given attention when it doesn't deserve any
#3: no punchline + holy god, terrible art
#4: no punchline
#5: I like having to look on urban dictionary to understand comics

if they all had punchlines you'd get bored of that too

#3 was, of those, the one that really needed a punchline to save it. It was a good concept, but one more panel could've made it gold

Plus, fat Samus, which nobody likes, i think they just tried making her voluptuous, but went a little overboard

About your urban dictionary comment, I can attest that as a gamer afk is a really popular phrase on computers that most people know. That strip was probably meant to be for PC gamers, where you're apparently a console gamer.. or not a gamer at all. It DID have a punchline, but you're not the target audience.
